Smackdown Recap 07.06.07
A recap of the 07.06.07 Smackdown from Dallas, TX:
Smackdown opened with the arrival of the United States Champ, MVP, to the ring. MVP began to tell the crowd how his title proves he is better than them. As MVP kept going on, Matt Hardy's music came on and Matt came down to the ring for their match.
Matt Hardy vs. MVP -MVP knocked Matt to the mat early causing him to back away to recover in the corner. MVP taunted Hardy and the crowd with his "ballin'" taunt. Matt able to take down MVP with several armbar takedowns. Hardy able to bulldog MVP down to the mat from the corner of the ring. Hardy continued to dominate, keeping MVP down and dropping elbows and punches on him. Matt missed on a leg drop and MVP took advantage by attacking Matt's injured knee. Matt fought back and MVP rolled out as Smackdown went to break.
Back from break, MVP was clothslining Hardy down in the ring. MVP started to attack Hardy with kicks and then applied pressure on Hardy's arm with an armbar. Hardy fought back and flipped MVP over him to the mat. Matt jumped off the turnbuckle and hit MVP with an elbow. MVP able to flip Matt over him off the ropes. Hardy rolled to the apron, and as he tried to get up, MVP ran into him causing Hardy to fly into the audience barricade. MVP then attacked Matt more outside the ring and tossed him back in. Hardy continued to fight back and was punching away at MVP. MVP able to knock Matt back down for more punishment. Hardy caught some momentum as he got back up and connected on two Side Effects on MVP, but no pins. Hardy went to the top turnbuckle for a move, but MVP ran over quick and flipped Matt down to the mat. The 2 men continued to fight back and forth with several near pinfalls. Hardy finally able to counter a move by MVP and get the "Twist of Fate" followed by a pinfall.
Winner: Matt Hardy wins via pinfall over MVP.
Promo show with Michelle McCool shopping and modeling various outfits. Her promo finished with "I'm Michelle McCool and I'm lovin life".
Backstage Teddy Long and Kristal seen planning for their wedding, when Edge interrupted them. Edge said he wasn't going to do anything for Teddy anymore. Teddy said he would allow Edge to do a special "Cutting Edge" tonight and Teddy would give him the biggest superstar he's ever had on Cutting Edge.
Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Chris Masters - Masters displays raw power early on by slamming Yang to the mat and throwing him around the ring. Masters with a hard clothesline on Yang early, knocking him to the mat. JBL noted that's what happens when cruiserweights get in the ring with heavyweights. Yang slipped out of a backbreaker by Masters and tried to fight back. Yang started using his quickness to attack Masters for a bit. Yang went to jump at Masters off the turnbuckle, but Masters caught him in the air. From there, Masters was able to flip Yang down and slap the Masterlock on him.
Winner: Chris Masters wins via submission over Jimmy Wang Yang.
After the match had ended, Great Khali came down to the ring and picked up the fallen Jimmy Wang Yang with both hands. Khali slammed Yang down on his back hard, then raised up his arms. Singh, the translator for Khali handed Khali a mic. His translator announced Khali is a champion for many people across the world. Singh said they came out to issue an open challenge to anyone brave enough to step into the ring with Great Khali at the Great American Bash. Singh said Khali would continue his dominant reign until someone could step forward to stop him.
Jesse and Festus promo was shown. Jesse said they are excited to be coming to Smackdown. Jesse said they know they will be traveling alot but don't need a GPS, because Festus has the look of a true navigational wizard.
Jerry Young and Mike Fox vs. The Major Brothers - Major Brothers' debut match on Smackdown roster. Early on Brett Major with a takedown on his opponent. Bret and Brian able to effectively tag in and aout to battle their opponents. Major brothers used some impressive doubleteam moves including a finisher move off the ropes where they both slammed their opponent down on is back for the pinfall victory.
Winner: The Major Brothers win via pinfall over Young and Fox.
A promo shown for Rey Mysterio announcing his return to Smackdown.
Finlay vs. Ric Flair - Flair able to taunt and bait Finlay early after backing him to a corner. Finlay put a headlock on Flair then knocked him down off the ropes. Flair able to trip down Finaly and grab ahold of Finlay's leg. With both men on their feet, Finlay able to corner Flair and began attacking him with uppercuts and chest chops. Finlay kept Flair down on the mat with a hold on Flair's neck/shoulders to work the pressure points and wear Flair down. Once Finlay cornered Flair again, Flair reversed things with a poke to Finlay's eye. Flair began to chest chop at Finlay then tossed him off the ropes. Finlay took control back and dropped Flair to the mat. Finlay then started to target the left leg of Ric Flair with attacks and then a Boston Crab. Finlay continued to attack Flair's leg and put him into another grueling hold down on the mat. Flair able to reach a bottom rope and break the hold Finlay was using.
Flair tried to put Flair's leg on the bottom rope to jump on it, but Flair was able to kick Finlay out of the ring. When back in the ring, Flair started to attack the knee and leg of Finlay. Flair slapped a Figure Four lock onto Finlay. Finlay started to back away to the ropes. Flair broke the hold and dragged Finlay back to Center of the ring. Out of nowhere, Hornswaggle came running into the ring. Flair was down on his knees but chest chopped the Leprechaun, causing Hornswaggle to roll back out of the ring in pain. With the ref and Flair looking out the ring at Hornswaggle, Finlay took his shalalee and hit Flair's leg from behind. Finlay then slapped in a Figure Four lock on Flair to win the match.
Winner: Finlay wins via submission over Ric Flair.
Lost Highway by Bon Jovi was announced as the theme song for Great American Bash.
Torrie Wilson seen backstage doing a photo shoot in a bikini with a beach ball. Victoria came over to interrupt and told Torrie she wouldn't steal the spotlight on Smackdown. Victoria and Torrie began to fight backstage, tossing each other around onto equipment and tables. Finally some staff were able to pull the two divas apart with them still yelling at each other.
Great Khali shown walking backstage with his translator Singh. Singh and Khali stopped a staff member wearing a headset. Singh asked the man why he wouldn't look Khali in the eye. Singh then translated for the man that "Great Khali doesn't like you and neither do I". The man said sorry and tried to leave, but Khali grabbed him and slammed him back against the metal door. Khali and Singh laughed as Smackdown went to commercial.
Kenny Dykstra vs. Chuck Palumbo - Dykstra took the mic and told Smackdown to welcome its future hot commodity and WWE Hall of Famer, Kenny Dykstra. As Dykstra continued to speak, Chuck Palumbo's music came on, and Chuck rode his motorcycle down to the ring. Palumbo showed strength early by flipping Dykstra over him off the ropes. Dykstra showed his high flying ability and flew off the turnbuckle to slam down on Palumbo. Dykstra started to target Palumbo's arm while he was down and rammed him to the corner. The 2 men started to battle back and forth in the corner. Palumbo finally able to fight back and slammed Dykstra off the ropes. Palumbo picked up Dykstra in a bear hug and rammed him back into the corner of the ring. Palumbo signaled for a finishing move. Palumbo able to catch Dykstra off the ropes and slam him down for the Chuck Palumbo Falls, a side slam. Palumbo with the pinfall victory.
Winner: Chuck Palumbo wins via pinfall over Kenny Dykstra.
A recap was shown from this past week's Monday Night Raw and the Beat the Clock challenge. Lashley, Orton, Mr. Kennedy and King Booker competed in timed singles matches, with the man winning his match in the quickest time getting a title shot at Cena. Lashley won the tournament, and then speared down Cena in the ring during their contract signing.
Mark Henry shown saying he has made his presence felt in the past weeks, destroying all opponents. Henry said since the draft new faces have come to Smackdown, and its just a matter of time before they come eye to eye with him. Henry said his strength is the opponent's weakness, and only the strong survive.
Deuce vs. Eugene - Michael Cole noted that Domino suffered a broken nose during their match with Cryme Tyme last week. Eugene was fascinated with Cherry's roller skates early on and went after them, but Deuce started to attack. Eugene reversed things out of the corner and tried to fight back, but Deuce knocked him out of the ring. Just then Great Khali's music came on. Khali came walking down to the ring with Singh. Khali got into the ring with Deuce and hit him with a hard punch, knocking him down. Domino tossed Eugene into the ring for Khali, and then pulled his partner Deuce out. Khali picked up Eugene with both hands and slammed him down on his back. Singh took the mic and said Khali is still waiting for an opponent for Great American Bash. Singh said this means there's nobody willing to step in the ring with Khali. Just then, Batista's music came on and Batista walked down to the ring in a suit. Batista circled Khali several times eyeing him then backed up. Batista removed his glasses and suit coat, and then got chest to chest with Khali. Singh got in between the two men and held Khali off from fighting. Singh made Khali exit the ring as Batista climbed the turnbuckle and pointed at him. Batista yelled for Khali to get back in the ring, but Khali and his translator backed up the ramp.
Winner: No winner announced due to The Great Khali interfering in match.
A second Rey Mysterio promo was shown announcing his return to Smackdown.
The Cutting Edge with Special Guest - Edge arrived to the ring carrying his belt. There were about 100 "Edge Sucks" signs being held up in the front rows of the crowd around the ring. Edge said he usually talks about his special guest's accolades, but he doesn't know who the guest is tonight. Edge said Teddy Long assured him this is the biggest superstar to ever be on the Cutting Edge. Edge said he wouldn't hold back on his questions with whoever it was, and then said let's find out who the guest is. Edge and the audience waited, and then all of a sudden Kane's music came on with an explosion of fireworks near the ramp. Kane entered the ring and stared down Edge. Kane tossed his chair down and walked up to Edge. Edge said in October 2007 it would mark a decade of dominance for Kane. Kane nodded. Edge discussed Kane beating just about everyone in the WWE, and how Kane excels at the Inferno match. Edge discussed Kane having his own motion picture, "See No Evil" which was a huge success. Edge told Kane "Decade of Dominance" doesn't quite sound as good as "Rated R Era". Edge then listed out his own achievements in comparison to Kane. Edge then looked at his watch and said "ok we're out of time". Edge tried to exit the ring, but Kane grabbed his arm. Kane took the mic while still holding Edge. Kane told Edge "I don't like you", and then tossed Edge around the ring. Kane grabbed Edge with one hand and tossed him over the ropes outside the ring.
As Edge recovered and backed up the ramp, he yelled on a mic that Kane would never be a guest on Cutting Edge again. Edge said even futher, Kane would never step in a ring with him again. Just then Teddy Long's music came on and Long came to the ramp. Long told Edge since he didn't want to compete tonight on Smackdown, he arranged for Kane to be his guest on Cutting Edge. Long said Edge would be defending his title against Kane at the Great American Bash on July 22. As Edge looked stunned, Kane raised both hands up and then brought them down as an explosion of flames came from the corners of the ring.
