Matt Hardy vs. Jack Swagger
ECW Title Match

The crowd was definitely behind Matt Hardy but it wasn't enough to overcome The All-American American ECW champ, Jack Swagger. The match was a back and forth contest and Matt got the crowd riled up as he attempted a Twist of Fate. Swagger countered it with a belly-to-belly suplex, slamming Matt to the mat. Swagger hit Matt face first into the top turnbuckle then sat him on it. Matt was able to knock Swagger off from the middle rope then landed a Moonsault, but could only get a 2 count. From here, Swagger turned the momentum and began hitting the back of Matt's head with his elbows. Swagger tossed Matt into the corner and Matt again hit his head on the turnbuckle. Swagger hit his trademark Gut Wrench Powerbomb to pick up a pinfall victory.

Winner: Jack Swagger wins via pinfall over Matt Hardy to retain the ECW Championship.

Melina vs. Beth Phoenix
Women's Title Match

The Glamazon displayed the power and strength that has kept her reigning Women's Champion as she fought Melina in this second title match of the night. Early on, Beth slammed Melina face first into the corner, then applied a tough leg submission hold. Melina attempted to break the hold by crawling for the ropes, but Beth bent Melina's leg back even more, eventually using it to kick Melina's own face. Beth eventually lifted Melina up high overhead for a gorilla slam, but Melina escaped before Beth could drop her. Melina had several near pinfalls after shifting the momentum in her favor. Melina then went off the middle ropes at Beth, who put her knees up to counter. As Beth came back over to attack Melina countered. From there Beth chopped at Melina and attempted her finisher. Melina smartly countered the move, then rolled Beth up for a quick pinfall victory!

Winner: Melina wins via pinfall over Beth Phoenix to become the new WWE Women's Champion.

John Cena vs. JBL
World Heavyweight Title Match

Prior to the title match backstage JBL told Shawn Michaels backstage if he helped him win, he'd give him all his money and guarantee a spot in tonight's Royal Rumble match. Michaels was at ringside for the title contest, and during the match JBL went to the outside to give him instructions. As this match hit a frantic pace, Cena locked in the STF submission on JBL. JBL managed to escape it due to Shawn Michaels distracting from the outside. The match continued with Cena getting knocked to the outside. Cena yelled at Shawn Michaels before getting back in the ring. JBL hit a Clothesline from Hell as Cena entered but only got the 2 count. Cena recovered and picked up JBL for the FU. In the process the referee was knocked out of the ring.

With the ref out and both men down, HBK got into the ring. Michaels stared at both wrestlers who were down. First JBL got up and then Cena. Michaels hit Sweet Chin Music on JBL causing the crowd to go wild. Cena looked shocked at what went down, until Michaels hit him with another Sweet Chin Music. With both men down, Michaels placed JBL's arm on Cena for the pin, then went backstage. A new referee rushed to the ring and tried to count JBL's pinfall. Cena got out at the 2 count. With both men up, Cena grabbed JBL and hit the FU for the win.

Winner: John Cena wins via pinfall over JBL to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.

Edge vs. Jeff Hardy
WWE Title Match

Prior to the WWE title match, Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero came out and announced she had changed the match. Vickie told Jeff Hardy not to think of trying to get out of the match by disqualification because she changed it to a No DQ match. The match itself was brutal, including a fight inside and outside the ring, near the crowd barrier and onto the announce tables! Chavo Guerrero tried to interfere to help Edge win, but Jeff managed to crash onto Chavo from off a ladder through the Raw announce table! Back in the ring, Edge managed to gain control and went for a Spear to win it. Jeff was able to counter the attempt and hit a Twist of Fate. As Jeff climbed the corner, Vickie Guerrero rushed down to the ring and began to yank Jeff's leg. Jeff kicked her away then hit a Swanton Bomb onto Edge in the ring. Jeff made the cover, buy the diabolical Vickie Guerrero pulled the ref outside the ring to stop the count.

Suddenly, Matt Hardy rushed to the ring and rolled Vickie in for he and Jeff. Matt gave his brother a chair, then got one of his own. The two Hardys prepared for the Con-Chairto, but Matt betrayed Jeff and hit him with the chair instead, knocking Jeff to the mat. Edge pinned Jeff following Matt's chair shot, allowing Edge to get a 3 count pinfall victory and become new WWE Champion.

Winner: Edge wins via pinfall over Jeff Hardy to become new WWE Champion.

30 Man Royal Rumble Match

30 Men entered but only one winner was named at the end of this match which lasted over an hour. The Rumble saw all spots filled including Cryme Tyme flipping a coin to choose which member went to the Rumble. It also saw a surprise return by former WWE champ, Rob Van Dam. The newly formed Legacy stable clearly held their own in this match with Orton as the 8th entrant, Dibiase 10th and Rhodes 15th. The three men worked over several opponents including JTG and Finlay. As the match headed towards its frantic finish, they targeted former Rumble winners, Undertaker & Triple H. With Undertaker, Big Show, HHH and all 3 members of Legacy remaining, it made for quite the finish.

Randy Orton went for his RKO on the Undertaker but Taker was able to counter. He and Big Show then began to fight on the apron. Randy Orton was able to eliminate Big Show and then Show eliminated Undertaker from the outside. Undertaker and Big Show continued their fight into the crowd. The Rumble comes down to a final 4 of Legacy versus Triple H. The heel stable went for the triple team with Orton assaulting The Game as Rhodes and Dibiase held him. Orton went for the patented RKO, but HHH shoved him away. Triple H Pedigreed Rhodes then managed to eliminate both Rhodes & Dibiase. Quickly Orton was able to rush Triple H and eliminate him to win the Rumble.

Great result commentary so far. It's refreshing to see someone on Blogger who actually understands grammar :)

Can't believe Matt turned on Jeff again. This should make for an interesting week.

Thanks Matthew for the compliments and for being a part of the blog here..the Matt vs Jeff is shaping up to be one great feud as Matt just was released by ECW and signed with Smackdown...I'm guessing we see them go one on one at Wrestlemania 25, but having them in the Money in the Bank match wouldn't be so bad either!
