WWE Raw Recap 10.01.07

Recap of Raw from Cleveland, Ohio:

Raw kicked off with Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross announcing that John Cena would face Mr. Kennedy for the first time ever tonight. Three unknown men in wrestling attire were shown standing in the ring, as Mr. McMahon came down to enter the ring.

Vince told the crowd tonight's main event is worthy of headlining Wrestlemania, with Vince facing Triple H. Vince guaranteed he would be the winner of the match, then cut to footage on the Titantron of him assaulting and defeating HHH in past encounters. Vince then said he has 3 men in the ring who represent 3 different styles of wrestling. Vince said one was a wrestling champ, the other a karate champ and the final man was Ohio state "Sumo champion". Vince then said it was time for a demonstration of what he will do to HHH tonight.

Vince took off his suit coat ready to fight. but then said he'd introduce a man who will demonstrate what he's going to do to HHH at No Mercy this Sunday. Umaga came down to the ring and proceeded to knock the 3 men down, attacking each. Umaga used his hip splash on two of the men he had seated in opposite corners. Mr. McMahon looked on from outside the ring as Umaga continued to decimate the 3 men. Vince ordered Umaga to deliver yet another slam on one of the men before Umaga left the ring.

Brian Kendrick, Paul London and Jeff Hardy vs. Lance Cade, Trevor Murdoch and Shelton Benjamin

Murdoch started versus London, with London gaining an upperhand and tagging in Kendrick for a doubleteam. After a dropkick, Kendrick tried for a pin, but Murdoch was able to escape and tag in Shelton. Shelton picked up Kendrick to slam him down across his knee, then tagged in Cade. The 3 men continued to punish Kendrick, keeping him away from his partners.

Kendrick finally escaped to tag in Jeff Hardy. Hardy used Whisper in the Wind off the corner and landed on Cade. Hardy climbed the corner ropes for a final move, but Shelton came over on the apron to pull him down, causing Hardy to land on the ropes on his groin. Shelton got knocked off the side apron. Just then Kendrick and London each jumped out of the ring to land on Shelton Benjamin and Murdoch. Kendrick came back into the ring and managed to do a quick move to slam Cade down. Jeff Hardy had recovered in time to do the Swanton Bomb off the top ropes and grab the pinfall victory.

Winners: Jeff Hardy, Kendrick & London win via pinfall over Cade, Murdoch and Shelton Benjamin.

William Regal was shown backstage on the phone, as Vince McMahon entered the office to welcome him back. Vince told Regal congrats on his matchmaking skills tonight. Vince told Regal to watch what he does to HHH tonight. Vince then asked Regal to look after Hornswoggle tonight. Vince left to prepare for his match as Hornswoggle laughed next to Regal. Regal turned to Hornswoggle who had then disappeared. Regal started to look around the office for the leprechaun.

Footage reviewed of Randy Orton's recent actions against John Cena and his father. Jim Ross said they would be speaking live to Orton tonight on Raw.

Randy Orton appeared via satellite from Chicago. Jim Ross asked Orton why he's not in Cleveland tonight. Orton said he's waiting for Cena in Chicago for their match instead of going to Cleveland where Cena may be under a crazy state of mind. Footage shown again of Orton attacking Cena's father several times, both 5 weeks ago and 2 weeks ago. Orton said he's waiting for Cena in Chicago for No Mercy for their Last Man Standing Match. Orton said he'll do whatever it takes to get the WWE title around his waist.

William Regal shown backstage looking for Hornswoggle in various offices. Regal saw the Highlanders walking backstage and asked if they had seen the leprechaun. They said no and Regal asked why they turned down a match against Kendrick and London for tonight. Highlanders said they just didn't want the match and came to the WWE with just one goal, to become the tag team champs.

Cody Rhodes vs. Hardcore Holly

Highlights shown from last week's encounter between Hardcore Holly and Rhodes with Holly getting the win. Early on Holly knocked Rhodes down off the ropes, and continued to dominate using a dropkick off the ropes. Holly backed Rhodes to the corner and began to chop away at him. Rhodes started to fight back and tried a backslide pin, then a cradle pin. Holly recovered and slapped Rhodes in the face. Holly went for a suplex but Rhodes escaped and tried another pin. Holly whipped Rhodes to the corner. Rhodes tried to jump up as Holly came at him, but Holly grabbed Rhodes by his legs. Holly then slammed Rhodes down on his back and collected a pinfall victory.

Winner: Hardcore Holly wins via pinfall over Cody Rhodes.

Lillian Garcia introduced Beth Phoenix as she came down to the ring to speak to the crowd. As Lillian was preparing to leave the ring, Phoenix grabbed her by the arm and took the mic. Beth told the crowd she is The Glamazon, both beautiful and dangerous. Beth told Lillian that it's a formality she will beat Candice at No Mercy and asked Lillian to announce her as the "new women's champion". Lillian did so, then said "that's assuming she beats Candice this Sunday". Lillian turned to leave, but Phoenix grabbed her and asked her how she was going to promote her new album with a crushed throat. Phoenix began to choke and attack Lillian, but just then Candice Michelle ran down to the ring for the save. Candice beat up Phoenix, forcing her out of the ring. Phoenix backed up the ramp glaring at Candice still in the ring.

Triple H shown backstage wrapping tape around his arms and hands for his upcoming match. Replay shown of Umaga dismantling the 3 men in the ring earlier.

Triple H vs. Mr, McMahon

Triple H began posing from the corners of the ring, until Vince grabbed a mic and instructed them to cut HHH's music. Vince said let's get the fight going and called for a ref as there was none around. Just then Carlito came out from backstage wearing a referee uniform.

Vince slapped HHH in the face as Carlito went to check his boots for weapons. Carlito called for the bell and HHH went right after Vince who ducked under the top rope. Vince exited the ring as Carlito held HHH off. Carlito started a countout, and HHH went out of the ring to chase Vince. Vince rolled back into and out of the ring. As Carlito counted HHH left the ring again and this time caught Vince. HHH delivered a solid punch to Vince's face then slammed him face first on the commentator's table. Carlito left the ring and started to tell HHH that he was the ref and in charge. Carlito shoved HHH, but HHH tossed Vince back into the ring. HHH went to deliver a pedigree to Vince in the ring. Carlito slid back into the ring and delivered his finisher from behind HHH. Vince tried for a pin and Carlito went to make a quick count, but HHH escaped. HHH went wild and attacked both men, using a low blow on Vince and then knocking Carlito down. HHH began to punch away at Vince as Carlito called for the bell.

As Vince was declared winner, all of a sudden Umaga came down to the ring. Umaga and HHH battled in the ring, with HHH trying everything to knock Umaga down. Eventually Umaga got the upperhand knocking HHH down into the corner of the ring and hip splashing him. Carlito got back into the ring and clotheslined HHH over the top ropes. HHH recovered as Umaga scared Carlito out of the ring, causing Carlito to run up the ramp. HHH went under the ring and got his sledgehammer. The Game got back into the ring holding his hammer and made Umaga back up, then eventually Umaga exited the ring. Umaga backed up the ramp with Vince as HHH looked on from in the ring with his weapon.

Winner: Mr. McMahon wins due to disqualification of Triple H.

Marella at the Movies

Santino Marella came down to the ring escorted by Maria for an in-ring talk segment. Maria and Santino sat in movie director chairs in the ring which was decorated in red. Marella brought up "The Condemned" starring Stone Cold Steve Austin. Marella then asked Maria if she thought the movie was bad too, and Maria disagreed saying she liked it. Marella then said the movie needs a bigger star with charisma, like himself. Footage was shown on the Titantron from "The Condemned". A fight scene involving Stone Cold cut to footage of Santino standing in front of a jungle saying how bad Austin's acting was. Austin's wife/girlfriend in the movie was shown crying and the movie ended. As Marella continued to insult the movie, Val Venis' music came on and Venis came down to the ring.

Val Venis began to tell Santino about acting. Venis told Maria if she's interested in performing he's doing a sequel to the movie "Mr. Woodcock". Santino took Maria and prepared to leave the ring, but Venis stopped them and told Maria she could choose to act with Venis in his movie or be in Santino's movie about his lovemaking, "Superbad". Santino then proceeded to attack Venis, knocking him down and repeatedly kicking him in the knee. Santino then left the ring with Maria as they walked up the ramp.

Todd Grisham interviewed John Cena backstage. Grisham asked Cena about the things people have been saying lately such as he's lost it and that Orton has got to him. Cena said "they are always out there saying things". Cena said No Mercy will be his time and he will get up. Cena said at No Mercy he will beat Orton so bad "they will never forget it".

Melina vs. Mickie James

Highlights shown from last week when Hornswoggle was supposed to go on a date with Melina. It turned out Melina had made a deal with Coach to keep Hornswoggle occupied for the night. Hornswoggle proceeded to steal Melina's towel from her after she got out of the shower causing he diva to run naked screaming.

Melina tossed Mickie to the mat early. The two women grappled with Mickie tossing Melina this time. Mickie jumped on Melina and began to punch her. Mickie then tried to come off the ropes, but Melina was able to drop her against her knee. Melina pulled Mickie by the hair and threw her across the ring. Melina tried to toss Mickie to the corner, but Mickie reversed it. The two women started to go back and forth at each other, with Mickie eventually delivering a kick to the back of Melina's head. Melina escaped a near fall. After getting whipped to the ropes, Melina used her legs to grab Mickie around the neck and push her back. Melina failed at a pin and the two divas continued to battle. Melina got the upperhand and prepared to suplex Mickie, but just then Hornswoggle appeared from under the side apron area, sticking his head out. While Melina was distracted, Mickie James was able to roll her up for the pinfall victory.

After the loss, Melina went out of the ring and under the side apron cover to find Hornswoggle. Melina remained under the ring for a while and then a scream was heard. All of a sudden, Hornwsoggle appeared with Melina's wrestling shorts in hand. Hornswoggle waved them around for the crowd to admire, then got an idea. The leprechaun ran back under the ring, and again Melina let out a scream. Hornswoggle ran back out and this time had Melina's top as well. Melina poked her head out from under the ring cover, using the apron cover to cover herself. Hornswoggle took off up the ramp with Melina's wrestling attire in hand.

Winner: Mickie James wins via pinfall over Melina.

Backstage, William Regal found Hornswoggle with Melina's clothes. Regal yelled at Hornswoggle for what he did, and Hornswoggle started to kick himself in the forehead. Regal told him to stop it, and just then Steve O entered the office wearing a white doctor's coat. Steve O said his show "Dr Steve O" will be on after Raw tonight. Seeing Regal had Melina's clothes in hand, Steve O told him he needs to find some wussies to work on, not crossdressers. Regal again lost Hornswoggle, then sat down to admire Melina's wrestling clothes.

JR and Jerry Lawler ran down the matches for this Sunday's No Mercy event.

Steve O shown walking backstage and found Ron Simmons. Steve O shook hands with Ron Simmons and told him he thinks he can toughen him up to make him more manly. Simmons got up and grabbed Steve O throwing him through a door. Simmons waited a moment and then exclaimed "DAMN!"

Mr. Kennedy vs. John Cena

Kennedy took the mic from above the ring prior to the match, telling Cena he doesn't like him and is happy to be the one to take out the top dog tonight. Kennedy then did his trademark double name announcement.

The two men grappled in the center of the ring with Kennedy applying a headlock to Cena. Cena managed to throw Kennedy to the ropes, but Kennedy knocked Cena back down. The two men went to the ropes again and this time Cena used an armbar takedown. Cena and Kennedy went to grapple again in the ring, but Kennedy kicked Cena in the gut and then knocked him down. Kennedy began to hammer away at Cena before trying to throw him to the opposite corner. Cena countered by whipping Kennedy to the corner then used a bulldog to slam him down.

Cena tried to take the upperhand, but Kennedy raked him in the eyes and gained control. Kennedy brought Cena outside the ring and smashed him face first against the steel steps leaving Cena sitting outside the ring, as Raw went to commercial. Raw returned with both men back in the ring and Kennedy DDTing Cena down. Kennedy failed at the pin then applied a headlock to keep Cena down in the ring. Cena finally got to his feet and suplexed Kennedy back. Cena tripped Kennedy down and applied the STFU. Kennedy tapped out quick giving Cena the win.

As Cena tried to celebrate, all of a sudden Randy Orton ran down into the ring. Orton quickly used the RKO to drop Cena to the mat, then started to pace around the ring eyeing Cena. Orton brought Cena outside the ring, and removed the top steps from the steel steps. As Cena stood up, Orton smashed the steel steps across his forehead. Orton then ripped the cover off the commentator table and removed the TV's from it. Orton grabbed a small TV and clocked Cena over the head. Orton then finished it off by standing Cena up on the table and RKOing him down into the table. With Cena layed out on the ground Orton got down in his face and counted all the way to 10, signifying what he expects to happen at No Mercy. Orton then stood in the ring staring out at the fallen Cena.

Winner: John Cena wins by submission over Mr. Kennedy.

Raw closed with Steve O coming back up to Ron Simmons saying he's been in plenty of hospitals before and can handle anything. Simmons asked Steve O if he was supposed to be somewhere. Steve O told Simmons his show's starting now. Simmons grabbed Steve O and threw him through the door again as Raw left the air.
