Smackdown Recap 09.28.07

Smackdown recap from Indianapolis, IN:

Smackdown opened with highlights from last week's wedding ceremony between Teddy and Kristal. Multiple incidents happened to interrupt the ceremony and just as Teddy was about to say 'I Do" he collapsed in the ring. Paramedics rushed him out with Kristal screaming and concerned guests looking on.

Vince McMahon shown backstage hugging Vickie Guerrero in an office. Vickie told Vince that Teddy's condition is not improving. Vince said he would name Vickie as General Manager of Smackdown in the interim. Vickie said she would be honored. As Vince turned to leave, Finlay was standing there. Vince discussed the problems he was having with Hornswoggle as he and Finlay walked off together.

Michael Cole and JBL discussed tonight's main event match between Undertaker vs. Mark Henry match. Torrie Wilson came down to the ring for the first match.

Torrie Wilson vs. Victoria

The two women grappled early with Victoria forcing Torrie to the mat in a submission hold. Victoria kept Torrie in a headlock until Torrie escaped and took Victoria down. Torrie ran off the ropes to fly at Victoria. Torrie continued to dominate and tried a pin but had no luck. Victoria pulled Torrie by her pants near the ropes causing Torrie to fall out of the ring.

Back in the ring Victoria started to dominate using a snap suplex. Torrie got up and started to fight back. Torrie used a headscissors followed by clotheslines and then slammed Victoria down face first. Victoria tossed Torrie to the corner at the end of the match. Torrie tried to go under Victoria's legs and pull her down for a pin, but instead Victoria dropped down on her for a pin. Victoria held onto the middle rope with the ref counting the pin.

After the match had ended, a mysterious blonde woman dressed in red wrestling attire came down and attacked Torrie in the ring. The woman shoved Torrie to the corner, kicking her and then attacking her further outside the ring. Cole and JBL had no clue who the woman was, who smiled as she walked away up the ramp.

Winner: Victoria wins via pinfall over Torrie Wilson.

Smack of the Night shown with highlights of MVP and Matt Hardy taking on Deuce and Domino last week. Matt Hardy was winning the match alone until he and MVP got into a dispute allowing Domino to roll up Hardy for the pinfall victory.

JBL said later tonight he'll be interviewing Rey Mysterio.

MVP's VIP Lounge

10 people were in the ring already partying it up as MVP came down to the ring in a white suit, carrying his 2 belts. MVP then started to talk about Smackdown's season premiere last week and Teddy Long's collapse. MVP said Teddy was responsible for bringing him to the most lucrative contract in wrestling on Smackdown. MVP said over the past year he's backed up the contract with his performance and has shown he's just better than everyone. MVP said tonight's his 1 year anniversary on Smackdown. MVP continued to talk about capturing the tag titles and how Matt Hardy is lucky to have him as a partner.

Just then, Matt Hardy came down the ramp to the ring carrying his belt and a bottle of champagne, wrapped in gold paper. Matt Hardy said even though isn't his usual scene he had to be there to hang out with his partner and celebrate the 1 year anniversary. Matt said he had the WWE staff put together a higlight reel of MVP's year in the WWE. The video showed such scenes as Kane setting MVP on fire, Stone cold stunning MVP and Evander Holyfield knocking him out.

MVP was outraged but Hardy told him it was all a joke between friends. Matt then presented MVP with a bottle of Cristal and raised his glass to toast MVP, and called MVP arrogant, overrated, stupid and many other words. Matt then told MVP he got him a match for tonight to celebrate his 1 year anniversary, and he would get to face Kane. MVP ordered security to get Matt out of his ring as he stomped around angry.

Chuck Palumbo vs. Kenny Dykstra

Palumbo rode down to the ring on his motorcycle, this time without Michelle McCool. Palumbo used an early armbar takedown on Kenny, then was able to elbow him down off the ropes. Palumbo drove Kenny from corner to corner then tossed him onto his back. Palumbo missed a leg drop, giving Kenny the upperhand. Dykstra used a kick to Palumbo's back and a foot to the face to keep Palumbo down.

Dykstra tried to keep Palumbo down on the mat, but Palumbo recovered and was able to ram Kenny into the corner, then powerslam him. Palumbo connected with a hard clothesline and continued to dominate Kenny in the corner. Palumbo finally finished Kenny with a boot to the face off the ropes, followed by his finisher to get the pin.

Winner: Chuck Palumbo wins via pinfall.

Footage shown of Stone Cold Steve Austin at FYE in New York City, promoting his new "The Condemned" dvd. Michael Cole then said "The Condemned" is the hottest selling DVD in America.

Jesse and Festus promo shown. Jesse said next week they will make their in-ring debut on Smackdown. Jesse said heads are going to roll. Jesse said Festus has the face of a man who loves to hear that bell ring.

Michael Cole discussed the Punjabi prison match, saying there's only been 1 ever match of this type before. The structure itself was shown with 20 foot walls of bamboo and spikes on top. Highlights shown from last week's Smackdown, where Khali attacked Batista during his match with Mark Henry. Khali left Batista laying on the mat and posed over him.

Batista shown backstage with his championship belt. Michael Cole asked Batista his strategy for the Punjabi match. Batista said he doesn't really have a strategy because he's never had this type of match before. JBL called out Batista saying if he's scared to just be honest with his fans. Batista said he's been locked in cages before so he's not scared, and Khali will have to pry the title from his dead hands.

Kane shown walking backstage on the way out for his match with MVP.

Next Friday's Smackdown main event announced as Rey Mysterio taking on The Great Khali.

Promo shown for Undertaker, with a child whispering "he keeps coming back, don't be afraid, be terrified". Undertaker shown posing in the desert on mountains as a narrator said "The time is now, he has returned". The promo finished with "Returns Tonight".

MVP vs. Kane

Early on MVP tried to grab Kane's arm, but Kane simply slammed him down. MVP regrouped and tried a headlock on Kane, but Kane shoved him to the ropes then knocked him down. MVP tried to taunt Kane when he got up and Kane gave him an uppercut, knocking him down. Kane began to beat up MVP in the corner, then whipped him to the ropes. MVP rolled out of the ring to recover, but Kane went out as well. Kane knocked MVP down then tossed him back into the ring. MVP tried to roll out under the other ropes and sat on the apron, but Kane got in the ring and grabbed MVP. Kane was then able to kick MVP down off the ropes.

Kane tried to go at MVP in the corner, but MVP countered then started to attack Kane. MVP used a neckbreaker and an attempted pin with no luck. MVP applied a headlock to Kane, keeping him down to the mat, then started to punch him. Kane finally got up and as MVP went at him, Kane delivered a strong punch. Kane was able to knock MVP to the mat with an uppercut, then elbowed him down off the ropes. Kane climbed the top rope and jumped off at MVP. MVP moved away causing Kane to fall MVP applied an armbar to keep Kane down.

Kane got to his feet to start fighting back and was able to gain the upperhand in the corner. MVP went at Kane but Kane was able to knock him back down. Kane went for the chokeslam when MVP got up, but MVP countered. The two men collided off the ropes and MVP rolled out under the ropes. Smackdown went to break briefly and returned with MVP applying a hold to Kane in the center of the ring. MVP delivered a solid boot to Kane's head off the ropes, then had a near pinfall. MVP managed to connect with a strong kick to Kane's face in the corner. MVP continued to dominate briefly, until Kane gave him a righthand, then clotheslined him in the corner hard. Kane went to the top rope again, and MVP ran up as well to try to suplex him down. Kane headbutted MVP down to the mat.

Kane connected on a clothesline off the top rope, knocking MVP down, then waited for MVP to stand up. Kane went at MVP near the ropes, but MVP flipped him over. Kane landed on the apron. When MVP turned around, Kane grabbed him in a chokeslam hold. Kane got in the ring with his hand still on MVP's neck. Before he could chokeslam MVP, MVP used a low blow on Kane causing the ref to ring the bell.

Winner: Kane wins due to disqualification of MVP.

JBL Interviews Rey Mysterio

JBL started on Mysterio as soon as he got to the ring. Mysterio reminded JBL that he was the one who retired him. JBL called Mysterio half the champion he was, saying he was the longest reigning champ in Smackdown history. Rey told JBL to "put up or shut up". JBL told Rey to worry more about Khali who he'll fight next week. JBL then shoved Rey down to the ropes. As JBL walked over to the fallen Rey, Rey grabbed JBL's legs pulling him down the rope. JBL got up but Mysterio was able to knock him back down into the ropes. With JBL face first on the ropes, Mysterio ran frpom the opposite ropes and did the 619. Rey waited for JBL to get back up, then did a springboard off the ropes landing on him. As Mysterio got up off the fallen JBL, Finlay had snuck into the ring. Finlay clocked Mysterio over the head with the shalalee, leaving Mysterio out cold.

Vickie Guerrero shown backstage in an office talking to Hornswoggle. Vickie told Hornswoggle that winning the Cruiserweight title was a fluke. Vickie told Hornswoggle she's concerned for his safety, because everyone wants a piece at him and his title. Vickie told Hornswoggle it would be in his best interest to give up the Cruiserweight title, and then took the belt from him. A saddened Hornswoggle left the office.

Jamie Noble vs. Shannon Moore

JBL and Cole discussed how important this match was now that Hornswoggle had to give up the Cruiserweight title.

Noble was able to gain control with a Boston Crab, but Shannon Moore grabbed the bottom rope. After a brief fight between the two, Moore used a neckbreaker to bring Noble down, then took control. Moore landed a spinning kick off the ropes, then a cross body as he jumped off the corner turnbuckle. Moore went up on the ropes again, but Noble got him seated on his shoulder then slammed him down face first. Noble connected with a final slam to finish off Moore. Noble posed indicating he'd be wearing the Cruiserweight belt soon.

Winner: Jamie Noble wins via pinfall over Shannon Moore.

JBL and Cole discussed the upcoming No Mercy Pay Per View with Undertaker vs. Khali in the Punjabi Prison match.

Khali yelled backstage and his translator Singh said Batista will be a caged animal trapped in the Punjabi prison in 9 days. Singh said next week Khali will put on a spectacle against Rey Mysterio, so Bastia should watch that. Singh said Batista will have nowhere to run in the Punjabi prison. Singh finished saying Khali will have no remorse and No Mercy.

Mark Henry vs. Undertaker

Mark Henry waited in the ring as the arena went dark and the Undertaker's theme started with the bell toll. Lightning shot down towards the Smackdown set at the top of the ramp, setting two Undertaker symbols on fire. Flames rose up near the top of the ramp, as smoke started to cover the ramp and the Undertaker made his way down to the ring.

Henry left the ring as the Undertaker went after him early. Undertaker went out of the ring and Henry began to use punches to his head, then tossed him back in. Henry tried to run at Taker in the corner, but Undertaker delivered an elbow to his head. Taker went old school climbing the ropes and tried to jump at Henry, but Henry caught him a bear hug then rammed him to the corner. Henry continued to beat Taker up around the ring with punches to the head. Taker started to fight back and tried to go off the ropes, but Henry knocked him down.

Henry delievered a solid elbow drop on Taker but failed at a pin. Henry tried for a second elbow drop, this time missing. Taker and Henry began to punch away at each other. Taker caught Henry with a flying clothesline off the ropes, then two clotheslines in the corner. Taker then went for the chokeslam but Henry tried to fight back, whipping Taker to the ropes. Taker ducked a Henry clothesline then chokeslammed Henry down for the pin. Taker knelt down on 1 knee and posed for fans as Smackdown left the air.

Winner: Undertaker wins via pinfall over Mark Henry.
