WWE Superstars Recap 05.21.09

The latest installment of WWE Superstars on WGN America for Thursday May 21, 2009 featured the first ever ECW Title matchup on the show. Christian defended the title against Tommy Dreamer, who recently announced he'd be retiring should he not capture the title by June 2009, when his contract expires with ECW/WWE.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Christian
ECW Championship match

With the gold on the line, Dreamer was determined to win and keep his ECW career going. Christian granted the match on ECW this past week which infuriated Jack Swagger. The two competitors, Dreamer & Christian, took each other to the limits in the match, with Dreamer gaining some serious momentum on the champ. Dreamer eventually got Christian into a Boston Crab style submission, but Captain Charisma managed to get to the ropes. Suddenly, the meddlesome Swagger made his appearance at ringside and prepared to attack. Christian and Dreamer worked together to knock the angry Swagger outside of the ring, but their match was done. The interruption stopped another chance for Dreamer to win the ECW title and as the two competitors shook hands, Dreamer kept holding onto Christian's ECW title as a sign he plans to regain that title, sometime very soon.

Winner: No winner, match ended due to interference from Jack Swagger.

Kofi Kingston vs. William Regal

In a fast paced match, Kofi Kingston and Regal both displayed their unique wrestling styles. Regal was vicious using various power moves to try to wear down and knock Kingston out. Kingston used his usual aerial high-flying attack to knock Regal around, using his trademark double legdrop and eventually defeated the brawler William Regal.

Winner: Kofi Kingston wins via pinfall over William Regal.

CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho

With both men coming off losses at Judgment Day, both Punk and Jericho were looking to get their winning ways going once again. The match showcased both men's talents, with Jericho gaining the advantage as he applied various submission holds, and eventually a running bulldog. Punk was able to regain control of things and eventually got Jericho up for the GTS to capture the win.

Being a sore loser after his loss, Jericho grabbed Punk after the match and hit the Codebreaker on him.

Winner: CM Punk wins via pinfall over Chris Jericho.
