Early Jail Release for Hulk Hogan's Son

According to a recent contactmusic.com article, Nick Bollea, son of former WWE Superstar Hulk Hogan, will be released from jail October 21, 2008, just two weeks from Monday. Nick will be released from the Pinellas County Jail in Clearwater where he's been serving an eight month sentence. The sentence came as a result of Nick pleading "no contest" to a felony reckless driving offense which produced a horrific car crash in Clearwater, and left Nick's friend in a critical, vegetative state. In previous months, Hulk Hogan had been in the news as he defended his son, saying he was serving his time in unfair conditions.

According to reports, Brooke Hogan is planning a reunion with her estranged parents, Hulk and Linda. The duo divorced months ago, but both have been featured on Brooke's reality TV show on VH1. Brooke's reunion will conincide with the day Nick is released from jail. It will also include a feast fit for a person just released from prison.

According to ContactMusic.com:

She says, "For Nick, we will all go together. He wants to see us. It’s not about us, it’s about him."

And Brooke is planning to cook up a feast for her 18-year-old brother once he becomes a free man.

She tells Life + Style magazine, "He wants me to cook him everything that exists. MAC and cheese, cheeseburgers, salad, chicken - he’d even eat broccoli if I made it for him. Anything other than jail food.”

Is Hogan's Son Getting Fair Treatment?

Nick Bollea, son of former WWE star Hulk Hogan, is currently spending 8 months in jail for last year's car crash that left his good friend in a vegetative state at a hospital. The incident occurred while Nick Bollea was driving too fast for road conditions and lost control of the car. The serious wreck left his friend in critical condition, leading to Nick's eventual sentence. Nick who is still a minor was placed in solitary confinement, yet he and his father recently pleaded for the judge to change Nick's jail conditions due to "unbearable anxiety". The judge stayed firm with his ruling and Nick will remain in solitary confinement for now.

Many people feel that celebrities get preferential treatment, lighter jail sentences and slaps on the wrist for offenses that others get much more serious punishments for. Some also question if Nick is really a celebrity. He's appeared on the reality TV show "Hogan Knows Best" but is simply Hulk Hogan's son. He was involved in racing but hadn't yet made a big name for himself. His sister Brooke does at least have the music video, album and recording contract to give her some claim to fame.

Currently Nick is a on a prison schedule where he's served breakfast at 3:30 AM, does prison work from 8am to 2PM, has lunch about 10:30 AM. His shower has a curtain over it for privacy. But he's left alone for long hours to contemplate his crime, which could drive many people crazy. It's not too harsh, and much better for him than being mixed in with the general prison population where he could be prone to violence and wouldn't enjoy the same privacy.

According to CNN.com, this past Monday Nick's attorneys sued the Pinellas County Sherrifs, accusing them of violating his privacy. The suit claims jailers released phone calls between Nick and his parents to the media, and also alleges the sherrifs allowed a news crew to film them.

CNN's show, Showbiz Tonight has recent footage of the jail cell Nick is staying in. See the jail cell footage here.

Hulk Hogan's Son Sentenced

The son of wrestler Terry "Hulk Hogan" Bollea, Nick, has been sentenced to spend 8 months in jail in addition to probation and community service. The sentence comes as a result of last August's tragic accident where 17 year old Nick was driving his car at high speeds during poor weather conditions. A crash occurred on the slick roadways which left the passenger, Nick's friend, John Graziano, in critical condition to the point he is now living on life support. Nick was later charged for reckless driving.

The following comes from Celebritycafe.com:

Bollea was arrested last November for reckless driving after being involved in a crash in August. According to an eyewitness, the seventeen-year-old was seen drag racing with a friend, speeding up to and beyond 100mph. Bollea later crashed into a palm tree and was found to have alcohol in his bloodstream. Bollea’s passenger, John Graziano, was seriously injured, and could end up in a nursing home for life, reports UsMagazine.com. In the court hearing, Graziano’s father read the statement, "My life now consists of 10 hours each day at a hospital watching my son suffer,” adding, “Nick has shown no remorse for what he's done for my son.” In response to the charges, the judge claimed, “I believe there is a sincere desire, a sincere apology, to change things, [but] there are consequences for what you do in these circumstances. There has to be some punishment.”

Bollea was given five years probation, five hundred hours of community service and a three-year drivers license revocation, in addition to his eight-month jail time.

His next court hearing will take place on November 11th.

According to TampaBays10.com, Nick was being held in the medical unit of Pinellas County Jail because he was the only juvenile in the jail at the time. Nick's classification will be determined and then he will be moved to the appropriate area of the jail.

WWE Raw commentator, Jim Ross had the following to add about Nick's situation:

"The question has been raised since the sentencing if the penalty for Nick Bollea was strong enough. My first instinct was to say, 'yes.' Then my wife asked me what if the victim had been one of our granddaughters and I had to re-think my original statement. Just like in sports entertainment, when one makes an emotional investment in an issue, the issue generally takes on a whole different light. Still, in hindsight, I don’t think Nick Bollea got off too lightly."

"Another point, Hulk should have lost the do-rag, without question, in the court room. Staying in an '80s character, 'brother,' was questionable judgment and it made Hulk come off looking as if he were in performing mode. The doo-rag was distracting and not in a good way."
