Patriot Ledger Discusses Wrestling

The Patriot Ledger has an online article looking at the Vince McMahon explosion story. The article discusses how a father won't allow his children to watch WWE's theatrics and discusses a local pro wrestling circuit, NECW (New England Championship Wrestling) and how it has a basic wrestler-feud approach minus the theatrics. The article looks at NECW in depth.

From Patriot Ledger:

"George Carroll Jr. of Quincy has been a professional wrestling fan all his life.

From the times his father took him to the old Boston Garden to watch shows as a kid to the massive amounts of time he devotes to ‘‘sports entertainment’’ as an adult, the love has never gone away. The love of the adrenaline-fueled, fan-centric spectacle is in his blood.

But when the world’s leading pro wrestling company, World Wrestling Entertainment, earned a rare place in the conventional headlines by faking the fiery death of chairman Vince McMahon, Carroll didn’t care much. And his kids - a 10-year-old daughter, a 6-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son - certainly weren’t watching."

Commentary: The link for the full article is below. My personal take on the article is I understand where some parents are coming from. They don't want their young and impressionable kids to get the wrong ideas. It's part of parenting. I find WWE to be entertaining and escapism. While sometimes it might seem predictable, there's always new feuds, stories and wrestlers popping up to keep us entertained. I also respect the local wrestling and indies wrestling products, because I know these guys are also putting their bodies on the line and trying to entertain people. So it becomes a personal choice of what you find entertaining. There are some who just enjoy all pro wrestling, WWE, TNA and local shows. It's almost like the ECW match, "Pick Your Poison", but I think having an obligation to what kids see as entertainment or on TV, should be up to parents and not the responsibility of a wrestling company (unless it says it is intended for kids of a certain age).
