ECW Recap 09.09.08

ECW Recap from Milwaukee, WI:

ECW opened up with highlights of the ECW Championship Scramble from Unforgiven last Sunday. Chavo Guerrero, Miz, Matt Hardy and Finlay all faced off as well as the champ Mark Henry. Chavo Guerrero, Mark Henry, Finlay all had brief title reigns, before Matt Hardy made the final pin on The Miz to become champ at the end of the 20 minute time limit. Matt Hardy is your new ECW champ.

Matt Hardy was introduced to the ring as new ECW champion, and came out to the roar of excited fans. In the ring, Hardy spoke about how winning the title is a dream come true. Matt thanked all the fans for their support as well as the skeptics who doubted him becoming ECW champion. Matt said he worked extra hard to prove the doubters wrong. Matt also vowed to become greatest ECW champion ever. As Matt continued his speech, an unhappy Mark Henry along with Tony Atlas stormed down to the ring.

Henry said Matt has his title, and demanded a rematch from Hardy. Tony Atlas warned Matt to never put his hands on him again. Just then, Mark Henry leveled Matt Hardy down to the mat. Matt stood up by the ropes and Henry charged at him. Matt ducked down and pulled the top rope, causing Henry to fall over to the outside. Tony Atlas went for an attack, but Matt ducked him also, then kicked him in the gut to deliver a Twist of Fate.

Todd Grisham announced tonight's main event will be Matt Hardy & Finlay facing the tag team of Mark Henry and Mike Knox.

Evan Bourne vs. John Morrison

Highlights were shown of last night's Raw where Bourne teamed up with Rey Mysterio to defeat Miz and Morrison. The match was requested by Morrison who wanted Bourne 1 on 1 after last night's loss. In tonight's contest, Morrison worked to wear Bourne down, tossing him in and out of the ring and applying headlocks down on the mat.

At one point, Bourne eluded Morrison and delivered a kick to his temple. Bourne followed by running off the ropes and delivering a headscissors. Bourne went for a standing Moonsault with Morrison down, but Morrison stuck both knees up. Morrison went to flip off the ropes onto a fallen Bourne. Then Bourne tried for the Shooting Starpress. Miz got onto the side apron, causing Bourne to jump down and knock Miz off. Morrison took advantage by hitting an impressive kick using the ropes to springboard into Bourne. Bourne crashed to the apron and fell outside the ring, but Morrison pulled him in for the winning pin.

Winner: John Morrison wins via pinfall over Evan Bourne.

Matt Striker and Grisham discussed the Finlay-Mike Knox feud. Footage was shown from 3 weeks ago of their brawl up the ramp on ECW. Also 3 weeks ago, Knox went after Hornswoggle as Finlay was fighting Shelton Benjamin. Finlay lost due to the distraction. Two weeks ago on ECW, the two finally met in a match and Finlay won using a shilaleigh shot. Tonight Finlay and Knox will be on opposite sides of a main event tag match.

Josh Daniels vs. Jack Swagger

The "All-American American" Jack Swagger came out as part of the new Talent Initiatve. Swagger started off by picking up Daniels and tossing him to the mat, laughing. Swagger kept Daniels down on the mat, hammering into the bck of his skull with a forearm. Swagger used a sidewalk slam but only got the 2 count. Swagger tossed Daniels to the corner hard, then slammed him down. Swagger was able to finish off Daniels impressively with a move Striker referred to as a "Blue Thunderbomb".

Winner: Jack Swagger wins via pinfall over Josh Daniels.

Hornswoggle, Finlay and Matt Hardy were shown walking backstage on their way out to the ring. Ricky Ortiz stopped them saying he knows they have a big match tonight, then offered them his rally towel. Hornswoggle snatched it out of his hand and began chewing on it, then started yelling as he waved it in the air.

Finlay & Matt Hardy vs. Mike Knox & Mark Henry

Tony Atlas was present at ringside with Henry for the match. Todd Grisham revisited the earlier incident between Atlas, Henry and Matt Hardy.

In tonight's main event, Mark Henry took out his frustration for losing the ECW title. Henry charged into Matt in the ring corner like a freight train. Henry tried for a huge elbow drop as he came off the ropes, but Matt rolled away. ECW hit a commercial break and when the show returned, Knox had Matt down on the mat in a headlock. Matt got to his feet and grabbed Knox around the throat, then dropped down. Matt got over to tag in Finlay who came in to attack Knox. Finlay delivered several moves including a splash, and rammed Knox in the corner. Finlay clotheslined Knox over the top rope then exited the ring to beat on him some more.

Knox was able to gain the upperhand after Finlay tried to get back in the ring. Mark Henry entered and put a squeeze on Finlay around the skull to wear him down. Knox and Henry continued to isolate Finlay and beat on him, so he couldn't get a tag to Hardy. Knox went for a huge knee drop as he came off the ropes but Finlay avoided it, then finally got a tag to Matt Hardy. Hardy rushed in and began to beat on Knox, then clobbered him down off the ropes. Knox went for a clothesline, but Hardy ducked then hit Side Effect. Hardy went for a Moonsault off the corner ropes and took the pin. Henry entered to break things up, but then Hornswoggle got in to distract.

Finlay came into the ring as the ref was distracted and clocked Mark Henry over the head with his shilaleigh. With Henry out of the picture, Matt kicked Knox in the gut and then hit the Twist of Fate to win it.

Winners: Finlay & Matt Hardy win via pinfall over Mike Knox and Mark Henry.
