Divas News: Maryse Injury & Chyna

According to various reports from sites such as wrestlingtruth.com, WWE Diva Maryse was recently injured and helped backstage at a WWE house show in Raleigh, North Carolina. In a later report it's now been reported that Maryse is officially out with a dislocated kneecap. Maryse won the WWE Divas Championship just a week ago on Smackdown by defeating Michelle McCool with Maria as special referee.

WWE.com's official statement on the injury:

Newly-crowned Divas Champion Maryse injured Written: December 29, 2008 Divas Champion Maryse dislocated her kneecap at a WWE Live Event this past weekend in Raleigh, N.C., just days after defeating Michelle McCool to become the golden girl of SmackDown. It is unclear how much time Maryse may miss due to the injury. Stay with WWE.com as more details become available

There's no word on the status of the Divas Championship or how long Maryse will be out for. Will this set up a divas battle royal for the title or possibly a tournament? Michelle and Maria seem to have a feud going on currently, and the Bella Twins have been hot. This could make for an interesting Royal Rumble matchup if the WWE wanted to add it in.

In an unrelated story, former WWE Diva Chyna (Joanie Laurer) was rushed to the hospital after what was an alleged drug overdose/suicide attempt. The incident occurred on Lauer's birthday but was reported as an accident due to medication issues. The following is from the official press release from Jeff Bauer of Mad Dad Productions (Bauer is working on a video shoot for a Lovechild song which features Chyna):

As reported early Saturday morning Chyna was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, Ca.

Upon finishing the video shoot for Lovechild's new single, Chyna and a couple of friends including myself, Jeff Bauer AD on the Lovechild shoot, had a few drinks to celebrate her birthday and the end of a great shoot.

Unfortunately, newly prescribed medication she is taking had a very adverse effect combined with the alcohol and Chyna blacked out and fell into her mirrored closet doors. She received minor cuts on her arms and legs. Admittedly, when she fell it was scary and things looked worse than it was to us.

She spent half the day Saturday at St. Joseph's emergency and was released by the doctors without being admitted to the hospital.

Jim Ross also commented on the situation at his blog, saying the following:

“Really sad to hear about Joanie “Chyna” Lauer’s recent troubles. I am thankful she is alive after apparently overdosing on her birthday. I truly hope Joanie gets more professional help, the WWE is an option for her, with whatever issues she has and find true happiness in her life. I’m not sure that her kind of happiness is going to be found in Tinseltown. Joanie was always so health conscious when she was on the WWE roster and the reports about her issues the past several years have been personally troubling to me. She had many challenges in her life LONG before she arrived in the WWE which I honestly feel are at the root of her problems today.”
