Smackdown Recap 3.30.07
2 days away from Wrestlemania ,Smackdown kicked off with a ladder set up outside the ring and a briefcase hanging high above, as Edge came down to the ring for singles action. It was announced all the men from the Money in the Bank ladder match would compete in matches tonight. Edge grabbed the mic and said he was the 1st ever winner of the Money in the Bank match. Edge said it allows the winner to cash in for a shot at the title at any time within 1 year, and he cashed in it before to win the Heavyweight Title from John Cena. Edge said he has more ladder match victories than all 7 of his opponents combined, so he will be the winner again this Sunday.
Matt Hardy then came out to the ring for his singles match vs Edge. It was noted that Matt Hardy is currently on Smackdown due to losing a "Loser Leaves RAW" match vs Edge some time ago. Edge took the mic as Matt Hardy came into the ring and told Matt he knew the fans wanted to see this match, but Edge isn't going to risk injury tonight. Edge said he found a replacement though, who his brother Jeff knows quite well. Just then the Great Khali came out to the ring, to Matt Hardy's surprise. Hardy ran at Khali early to try to take out his leg, but Khali quickly dismantled Hardy with a chop to the back and a clothesline. Hardy rolled under the bottom rope, but Khali was able to toss Matt over the rope from the apron. Khali cornered Matt and repeatedly kicked at him, then choked Matt Hardy. Khali was about to pick Matt Hardy up in the center of the ring, but just then Kane's fire exploded at the ramp. Khali looked up the ramp for Kane who didn't show. As Khali walked up the ramp, Kane appeared on the Titantron holding the chain and sickel from See No Evil. Kane said "Khali....2 More Days!" and then laughed maniacally as Smackdown went to commercial.
Teddy Long seen back in his office on the phone as Kristal came into his office. Teddy told Kristal he made reservations for them to go to dinner and dancing, since she has been working so hard and doing well with all her interviews. Teddy wished Kristal good luck in her DIVA tag match tonight.
Mr. Kennedy vs. Finlay - Mr. Kennedy came to the ring and grabbed the mic which came down from above him. Kennedy said the briefcase above him is "his briefcase". Kennedy said at Wrestlemania he will become "Mr. Money in the Bank". Early on the 2 men grappled from corner to corner and down to the mat and then the 2 rolled outside the ring still locked into a hold. The 2 men rolled onto the announcer table, and broke their hold then got back in the ring. Eventually Mr Kennedy got the upperhand by locking a hold on Finlay's head. Finlay was able to reverse and attempt a pin. Kennedy regained control and began kicking away at Finlay who fell to the corner. Finlay then ran at Finlay and kicked him in the face with a boot. Kennedy went for an early pin, but only scored a 2 count. Finlay got up and went to try to remove the corner but Finlay ran at him and prevented it. Finlay knocked down Kennedy then went over and removed the padding from the turnbuckle. The ref went to put it back on, but just then Kennedy went for a pin causing the ref to go to count. After a 2 count, Kennedy whipped Finlay into the exposed turnbuckle in the corner. Finlay and Kennedy went back and forth until Finlay ran at Kennedy in the corner and Kennedy moved, causing Finlay to hurt his shoulder. Kennedy went outside the ring and retrieved the ladder standing outside the ring. Kenned brought the ladder in to use against Finlay but missed with it, dropping the ladder. Finlay whipped Kennedy to the corner, then went to get the ladder.The ref then went to stop Finlay, Just then Little Bastard came out from under the ring and brought out a "mini step ladder" into the ring. With the refdistracted by Finlay, Little Bstard set up his ladder next to a fallen Kennedy. Little Bastard climbed the step ladder and then did a backflip off it onto Kennedy's chest. Little Bastard then scurried out of the ring and hid himself with the ladder back under the ring, as Finlay was able to pick up Kennedy onto his shoulders and slam him down for a 3 count pinfall.
MVP came to the ring and took the mic from the ring announcer. MVP said tonight his opponent is a man who has won countless marathons, with speed and ferocity. MVP said his opponent tonight is the Ethiopian Heavyweight Champion, whos name was tough to pronounce. As the man came into the ring with a spear, MVP began to systematically beat him down in the corner, punching away at the man's midsection. MVP whipped his opponent to the corner of the ring, then ran at him and kicked him in the face. MVP then mocked Chris Benoit by doing 3 German suplexes, followed by a signal for the Crossface crippler. MVP then did his finisher "The Playmaker" on his opponent, scoring a 3 count pinfall victory. MVP took the mic again and told the crowd the countdown is on to Wrestlemania. MVP said in just 2 days there will be a new United States Champion.
Randy Orton vs. Jeff Hardy - Another tune up match for Sunday's Money in the Bank Ladder match featuring 2 of the competitors. Early on Jeff Hardy managed to grab Orton's arm behind him back and take him down to the mat, until Orton got back up and backed Hardy into a corner. Orton then turned and whipped Hardy to the ropes, but missed when he ran at him. Hardy regained control and worked on the left arm of Orton in the middle of the ring. Hardy continued to twist and hold Orton's arm in the center of the ring, after a failed pinfall. Orton able to get Hardy back to the corner and tried to regain control. Jeff Hardy ducked a move by Orton off the ropes and then slammed Orton face first into the mat for an attempted pin. Hardy whipped Orton off the ropes and hit him with an elbow for another attempted pin. Orton able to regain control and toss Hardy out of the ring as Smackdown went to commercial.
Back from commercial, Orton had Hardy down on the mat with a headlock slapped on. Orton able to snap Hardy down with a vicious move and attempted pinfall. Orton with the upperhand as Hardy clutched at his stomach. Orton stood Hardy up and dropkicked him, then tried another pin. Orton continued to put headlocks on Jeff Hardy in the center of the ring to try to drain Hardy of his energy. Hardy finally able to get to his feet and start to hit Orton in the midsection until Orton knocked Hardy back down to the mat. Orton went to drop a knee on Hardy, but Hardy moved, getting to the ropes. Orton came over to attack Hardy, but Hardy able to catch Orton with a takedown countermove. Both men layed out on the ring, but got back up. Hardy climbed the ropes for a Swanton bomb, but Orton rolled to the bottom rope. Orton able to knock Hardy back out of the ring from the ropes. Just then Edge ran down to interfere and beat up Jeff Hardy outside the ring a bit. Orton rolled out of the ring to confront Edge asking what his problem was. Orton told Edge "I've got this' as he rolled Hardy back into the ring. Orton got ready for the RKO and looked back at Edge who came near the apron. Orton came over and told Edge again "Ive got this!" but just then Jeff Hardy managed to rollup Orton from behind for a 3 count pinfall victory. A smiling Edge retreated up the ramp as Orton was outraged.
Melina, Kristal, JIllian,Michelle McCool, and Victoria vs. Ashley, Torrie, Maria, Mickie James & Candice Michelle - A 5 on 5 Diva tag match in preparation for Wrestlemania's Women's title "Lumberjill Match". Mickie started off vs Victoria, with Mickie grabbing an early advantage over Victoria, until Michelle McCool managed to help victoria gain control. Melina then tagged in after Michelle McCool and continued to hammer away at Mickie, allowing Jillian and Victoria to both tag in. Victoria went to moonsault off the cornerropes onto Mickie James, but Mickie rolled away and eventually able to tag in Candice. As Candice took it to Victoria, then Maria and Torrie Wilson each able to tag in. Maria performed the "Bronco Buster" on Victoria in the corner, followed by Torrie's "Stinkface". Ring was then cleared of most competitors, leaving just Jillian vs. Ashley in the ring. Jillian picked up Ashley on her shoulders, but Ashley able to reverse the move and rollup Jillian's legs for a 3 count pinfall victory.
CM Punk vs King Booker - Early on Booker able to knock CM down and then began chopping away at him finally tossing him into the corner. Booker able to catch Punk near the ropes and drop him onto the top rope, then deliver a kick to Punk's face. An attempted pinfall only resulted in a 2 count. Punk tried to gain momentum off the ropes, until Booker caught him and slammed him down on his back. Punk tried getting to his feet but Booker yanked his hair and pulled him back down. Booker with a backslam in the ring, but CM Punk kicked Booker while laying down. Punk got up and able to catch Booker with a countermove. Punk with a series of kicks to Booker then whipped him off the ropes. As the 2 competitors fought it out, Booker tried to finally suplex CM Punk, but Punk able to flip over to the back of Booker and roll him up for a pinfall victory.
A look back at this past Wednesday's Wrestlemania23 Press conference from NYC's Trump Towers. The Trump, McMahon, Lashley and Stone Cold portions were shown, where Trump ended up slapping Vince and Lashley ended up slamming Vince through a table.
The Biggest Interview in Sports Entertainment History - JBL interviewed Undertaker & Batista prior to their huge title match at Wrestlemania 23. As JBL was proclaiming how great a commentator he is, Stone Cold Steve Austin burst out form backstage and walked down to the ring. JBL went to shake hands with Stone Cold, but Stone Cold turned and gave JBL the Stone Cold Stunner. Austin then caught beers thrown to him from outside the ring and bashed them over his head as he drank them on the ring corners. After celebrating with several beers, Austin delivered a 2nd Stone Cold Stunner to JBL in ring. Michael Cole announced that the interview would proceed once Smackdown returned from a break.
Back from break, Teddy Long was in the ring with about 10 security guards. Teddy announced after what happened to JBL, the interview would still take place. Teddy Long first introduced Batista to the crowd. Batista came out to his theme music and explosions then posed in ring up on the corners with his belt. Next Teddy introduced Undertaker as the arena became dark. Taker walked slowly to the ring as smoke surrounded him. As Taker got into the ring the lights came back on. Taker and Batista stared each other down from across the ring with the line of security guards forming a wall in between the 2 men. Teddy Long asked Batista if he still has the same level of respect for the Undertaker as he did 8 weeks ago and Batista exclaimed "No!". Teddy Long asked Undertaker how he responded but Taker didn't speak. Teddy then asked Batista what it will take to defeat the Undertaker this Sunday. Batista said "It will take 48 hours and Undertaker Im gonna whip your ass!" Taker then proceeded to remove his coat and hat and Batista suddenly charged through the line of security guards to attack Undertaker. The 2 men began punching away at each other as security tried to break things up. The brawl spilled outside the ring, as security seemed to have the 2 men apart. Batista was able to get back into the ring, and then Undertaker also ran back in. The 2 men began punching each other in the stomach and chest, until guards ran back in. Security pushed Batista and Taker into opposing corners of the ring. Undertaker then began punching and knocking down security guards until he was able to run towards Batista's corner. Batista able to head him off and scooped up Taker to slam him down onto the mat. Batista looked at Taker laying flat on his back as he exited the ring. As Batista began up the ramp, Undertaker sat up in the ring and looked out at Batista. Taker rolled his eyes back into his head and then symboled the cutthroat sign at Batista who was yelling "48 hours!" at Undertaker. Smackdown left the air, with the stage set for a great Wrestlemania 23!
