A recap of 4.2.07 Monday Night RAW live from Dayton, Ohio
RAW opened up with the entrance of a triumphant John Cena, still carrying the WWE title on his shoulders and raising it for all to see. In ring, Cena took the mic as the crowd was a mixture of boo's and cheers. Cena announced "the Champ is Here", just as DX music came on and Shawn Michaels came down to the ring. HBK told Cena this is usually the time where someone comes out and talks about their awesome Wrestlemania match and how the Showstopper and his opponent made history. HBK said the match was all about winning and losing, and nothing more. HBK said he didn't like the outcome. HBK said he wasnt going to tell Cena he's the better man, because HBK is still the better man. Cena responded to HBK "if you wanna question my manhood, it sounds like a challenge, so anytime, any place". HBK said he's currently not busy and would fight right there, right now. Just then Coach came to the top of the ramp and told HBK/Cena that the title would not be defended,but that the tag titles would be defended, with a twist. Coach said tonight Cena and HBK would compete in a 10 team, 20 man over the top rope battle royal with teams representing each of WWE's brands. Coach announced the tag titles would be on the line.
10 team, 20 man over the top rope battle royal for WWE Tag titles - Competing in the match for Cena and HBK's titles were the following teams:
RVD & Sabu (ECW), King Booker & Finlay (Smackdown), Crime Tyme, Deuce & Domino, Highlanders, Hacksaw and Eugene, Chavo and Gregory Helms, Masters and Dykstra, Elijah Burke and Matt Stryker
Kenney and Masters eliminated early. Domino clotheslined JTD off the side apron making Crime Tyme the 2nd team to go. Next to go were Hacksaw and Eugene, with Hacksaw not realizing Eugene had been eliminated, requiring the ref to inform him. Deuce eliminated Rory of Highlanders, when he grabbed the ropes and then wrapped his legs around the neck of Rory to flip him over the rope and onto the floor. Cena came over to assist HBK who had been attacked by Deuce and Domino. Cena did the "FU" of Deuce over the ropes, followed by ducking and then pulling the rope down so Domino went over as well. Elijah Burke was then eliminated by Cena over the ropes. Sabu and RVD were eliminated next. The match came down to Finlay/Booker T vs Cena and HBK for the titles, with Queen Sharmelle looking on. Cena tried to put Finlay over the ropes, but Finlay landed on the apron. Cena tried to punch Finlay but then Finlay ducked and rammed his shoulder into Cena's stomach. HBK able to superkick Finlay then who fell off the apron, giving the match to Cena and HBK.
Just then Coach came out and congratulated Cena/HBK on winning part 1 of their match. Coach said there would now be a 2nd 10 team, 20 man over the top Battle Royal. The Hardy's came out as RAW went to commercial.
2nd 10 Team, 20 Man Battle Royal for the Tag Team titles - Cena and HBK faced the following teams in part 2 of their challenge:
Matt & Jeff Hardy, Kendrick & London, World's Greatest Tag Team, Cade & Murdoch, Viscera and Val Venis, Chavo and Gregory Helms, Tommy Dreamer and Sandman. William Regal and Dave Taylor, Miz and Johnny Nitro
Val Venis was first to go, also eliminating Viscera. Tommy Dreamer tossed out Regal, eliminating Dave Taylor as well. Helms and Chavo had Cena on the ropes, but Cena able to punch back and survive. Tommy Dreamer thrown over the top ropes next, as 3 men tried to throw HBK over the top ropes. HBK went over holding onto the top rope and was then able to slide under the bottom rope. Back from break with several teams still competing, and with Cena being . HBK superkicked Nitro over the ropes. The shocker of the match came when HBK turned and grabbed Cena and tossed him over the ropes. HBK then backed up the ramp looking at a stunned Cena saying "1 goal" and motioning for the belt around his waist. Back in the ring, Kendrick flipped Chavo over the top ropes but Chavo held onto the ropes and then able to pull Kendrick over with him, eliminating both teams. The Hardy boyz remained to battle with Cade & Murdoch. Jeff Hardy took it to Lance Cade, punching away at him in the corner. Matt and Jeff went to pick up Cade over the ropes. As this was broken up, Matt Hardy was cornered and then Cade began to punch and kick him. Cade/Murdoch then double-teamed Jeff and were able to knock him out with a strong kick to the face. Matt hardy able to regain momentum, and did a leg drop off the top ropes. Jeff Hardy picked up Murdoch and tried to put him over the ropes, but Murdoch clutched the ropes, then slid back in under the bottom rope. Murdoch able to escape a move by Matt Hardy. With Murdoch on the side apron he yanked Matt Hardy's hair, pulling Matt down to the mat hard. Murdoch climbed the ropes, still recovering from the in ring action. With Murdoch on the ropes, Matt began to get to his feet and was on all fours near the corer. Jeff Hardy seized the opportunity and ran towards Matt, using him to jump off and dropkick Murdoch out of the ring. Matt & Jeff Hardy are the new tag team champions!
Backstage Todd Grisham asked HBK why he purposely eliminated John Cena. HBK said the tag titles were clouding Cena's mind, and there is now 1 goal to worry about, and thats the WWE title. Just then Randy Orton interrupted, and told HBK he had his chance last night and blew it. Orton said he will beat John Cena. HBK said he told Cena hes not the better man, and neither is Orton. Orton said they would have to wait and see now.
A recap highlight reel was show of Wrestlemania 23 from Ford Field in Detroit Michigan with highlights from all matches from last night's extravaganza.
Coach seen backstage talking to Vince, who was not seen on the camera. Vince said this was his worst Wrestlemania in history, personally. The camera view was shown first person from Vince. Vince walked up to Maria and Candice and said he was gonna take his hat off and asked how he looked. The divas lied and told Vince he looked more handsome than ever. Vince walked up to Crime Tyme and Eugene, and Eugene held his fist over his mouth laughing. Ron Simmons then walked up to Vince and held off for a moment before saying "DAMN!". An angry Vince yelled for Coach to escort him to the ring as RAW hit commercial.
Lillian Garcia introduced Vince McMahon, as Vince came to the ramp wearing a hat to cover his bald head. Vince said he bets most people expect him to come out and eat a nice slice of humble pie. Vince told the crowd a travesty of injustice was done against him by Stone Cold Steve Austin. Vince said if not for Austin, he would still have hair. Vince said he is wiping the slate clean and Wrestlemania did not happen for him, and he would now change the record books. Vince then made Lillian repeat after him that the winner of the Battle of the Billionaires was Vincent Kennedy McMahon. Vince said tonight he would take Bobby Lashley's championship, since he can't take his hair. Vince said tonight Lashley would defend his title vs Umaga. Vince said he was sorry to disappoint them, but people wouldn't see his bald head tonight. Vince said this hat would remain on his head until his hair grew back, and that the WWE.com were the only bald pics they would see of him. Vince began to leave the ring, but just then Bobby Lashley came out to the ring.
Lashley stared at Vince in the ring, and Vince then went to throw a punch. Lashley ducked the punch then pulled the hat off Vince's head, as the crowd cheered. Vince slid out of the ring and ran over to grab a towel. With the towel on his head, Lashley went behind Vince and yanked the towel off. Vince then proceeded to try to use Jerry Lawler's crown, Jim Ross' cowboy hat, but Lashley pulled both off. Vince hid under the ring until Lashley pulled his legs out. Vince then went back in ring and hid his head under Lillian's skirt. Lashley went in the ring and walked around a few times, then pulled Lillian's skirt off, leaving both Lillian and Vince embarased center ring.
Ric Flair & Carlito (w/Torrie Wilson) vs. The World's Greatest Tag Team - Early on Carlito grappled with Benjamin, knocking him down, but Shelton then clotheslined Carlito and began to punch at Carlito's head. Carlito regained control and knocked Benjamin down, then hit Haas off the apron. As Carlito turned, Benjamin with a strong kick to Carlito's face, and then a tag to Haas, who climbed back on the apron. Haas able to keep Carlito in the corner hammering away at him. Haas and Benjamin able to double-team Carlito for a while, isolating him center ring. With Benjamin battling Carlito he threw Carlito off the ropes and went to clothesline. Carlito ducked the attempt, then got on the ropes to jump off and hit Benjamin. Both men down, Carlito able to crawl over and tag in Flair. Flair then cleaned house in the ring chopping away and clotheslining both men. Carlito hit outside the ring. Haas then lifted Flair onto the ropes and awaited Benjamin to run off the ropes. As Benjamin hit the side rope, Carlito pulled on the ropes from outside the ring, causing Shelton to go over the top ropes. With Shelton outside the ring, Carlito ran at Haas' leg and able to knock him stumbling back. As Flair recovered he was able to come over and knock Haas down and lock a figure four leg lock on Haas. Haas eventually tapped out giving the victory to Flair and Carlito.
Highlights shown from this past weekend's 2007 WWE Hall of Fame Induction ceremony, with segments of speeches shown from Jim Ross, Dusty Rhodes, and Jerry Lawler.
Todd Grisham interviewed Timbaland from the crowd. Timbaland said he was there to see Ric Flair, and the main event tonight because he doesn't just do music but also loves wrestling. Todd asked Timbaland about the upcoming video he's shooting, which will include many of the WWE Divas. Grisham announced that Timbaland's new album "Shock Value" will be in stores tomorrow.
Melina's Special Photo Op - Melina came to the ring and with mic in hand, and told Timbaland she is the most sexy and dominant Diva in the WWE, so she looks forward to starring in his new video. Melina said last night she defeated Ashley and now will hold a special photo shoot for the Paparazzi. Melina then posed in the ring with her championship belt as Paprazzi around the ring began snapping shots. Just then Mickie James ran down the ramp and slid into the ring. Mickie attacked Melina, then did her finisher on Melina, leaving Melina laying on her back in the ring. Mickie yelled for paparazzi to take a picture of this, as she stood over Melina.
Super Crazy vs. The Great Khali - The latest victim for Great Khali's wrath slid into the ring and tried to attack quick, until Khali shoved him back into the opposite corner. Super Crazy with an attempted dropkick off the top ropes, which hit Khali, but simply bounced off him. Khali then whipped Crazy off the ropes and hammered him down with 1 hand, followed by lifting Super Crazy high up with both arms and slamming him down. Great Khali then stood with 1 foot on his opponent for a 3 count pinfall victory. Khali walked back up the ramp looking out at the crowd.
Vince seen back in his office wearing a backwards baseball cap, with Alejandro Estrada. Alejandro told Vince to take it easy and calm down. Vince told Alejandro to shut up, because he cant take it easy after what happened last night at Wrestlemania. Vince took a cigar from Alejandro's and snapped him it in half. Vince then told Alejandro he would be Umaga's tag team partner for the match tonight, which would now be a handicap match, 2 on 1 Umaga/Estra vs Lashley.
Maria interviewed Matt and Jeff Hardy backstage, the new tag team champs. Jeff said they are now 6 time champions which not many teams can say they have done. Matt said they have been beaten up alot lately and had their ups and downs but finally are tag team champs again.
Highlights shown from an advanced screening of "The Condemned", the new Stone Cold Steve Austin action movie.
Edge came to the top of the ramp, mic in hand and said "a lesser man would not be standing there tonight". Edge said it took every ounce of energy he had to get out of bed this morning. Edge said Jeff Hardy jumped off a ladder last night and drove his body threw another ladder. Edge said he is not thinking properly now, because he heard HBK demanding another title shot earlier and then Randy Orton demanding a shot as well. Edge said he finds this all amusing because he has bashed a steel chair over Michaels' head countless times. Edge said Orton is the same gullible ego maniac he's outsmarted so many times. Edge said Cena's a fighting champion, but that Edge has beaten him countless times. Edge said all the fans will be forced to call him "the next WWE champion".
Main Event: Umaga & Armando Estrada vs Bobby Lashley (2 on 1 handicap ECW Title match) - a rematch from last night's Wrestlemania Battle of the Billionaires, with a twist as Umaga's manager would team up with him to face Lashley. As Lashley got to the ring and the bell sounded, Umaga attacked him early knocking him outside the ring. Umaga then tossed Lashley into the steel steps. Umaga then threw Lashley into the ring with Estrada in the ring as well, keeping distance. Lashley able to escape Umaga briefly and ran over at Estrada, ramming him into the corner. Umaga quickly grabbed Lashley and continued to hammer away at him. Lashley regained control momentarily, flipping over Umaga. Lashley about to pull Umaga down for a pin, but Estrada kicked Lashley. Umaga then sat on Lashley, and got a 2 count. Umaga continued the beatdown on his opponent with Estrada shouting instructions to the Samoan Bulldozer. Lashley down under the ropes able to recover and DDT Umaga, but it barely phased Umaga. Umaga with another pinfall attempt. Umaga slammed Lashley off the ropes, and then Estrada tried the pin, but Lashley tossed him off. Umaga continued to attack Lashley in the center of the ring. Estrada tried a second pinfall attempt but was thrown off again. Lashley coninued to lay in the ring with Umaga stepping on him then picking Lashley up. On his feet, Lashley started to battle back, punching Umaga, but Umaga then clotheslined him down. Umaga put Lashley in the corner where he began to choke Lashley. Lashley started to battle back again punching Umaga, but Umaga then pushed Lashley to the ropes and knocked him down. Estrada then walked on the fallen Lashley.
Umaga was able to continue toying with his opponent and knocked him into the corner. With Lashley seated in the corner of the ring, Umaga ran at him, snapping Lashley's head back. As Lashley got to his feet, center ring, Estrada tried to hold him for Umaga to jab with a thumb. Lashley able to escape it and shoved Estrada back. Estrada rolled out of the ring as Lashley mounted an attack on Umaga. Lashley ran off the ropes and ducked a flying Umaga, then speared him. Edge came to the top of the ramp, mic in hand and said "a lesser man would not be standing there tonight". Edge said it took every ounce of energy he had to get out of bed this morning. Edge said Jeff Hardy jumped off a ladder last night and drove his body threw another ladder. Edge said he is not thinking properly now, because he heard HBK demanding another title shot earlier and then Randy Orton demanding a shot as well. Edge said he finds this all amusing because he has bashed a steel chair over Michaels' head countless times. Edge said Orton is the same gullible ego maniac he's outsmarted so many times. Edge said Cena's a fighting champion, but that Edge has beaten him countless times. Edge said all the fans will be forced to call him "the next WWE champion".
Main Event: Umaga & Armando Estrada vs Bobby Lashley (2 on 1 handicap ECW Title match) - a rematch from last night's Wrestlemania Battle of the Billionaires, with a twist as Umaga's manager would team up with him to face Lashley. As Lashley got to the ring and the bell sounded, Umaga attacked him early knocking him outside the ring. Umaga then tossed Lashley into the steel steps. Umaga then threw Lashley into the ring with Estrada in the ring as well, keeping distance. Lashley able to escape Umaga briefly and ran over at Estrada, ramming him into the corner. Umaga quickly grabbed Lashley and continued to hammer away at him. Lashley regained control momentarily, flipping over Umaga. Lashley about to pull Umaga down for a pin, but Estrada kicked Lashley. Umaga then sat on Lashley, and got a 2 count. Umaga continued the beatdown on his opponent with Estrada shouting instructions to the Samoan Bulldozer. Lashley down under the ropes able to recover and DDT Umaga, but it barely phased Umaga. Umaga with another pinfall attempt. Umaga slammed Lashley off the ropes, and then Estrada tried the pin, but Lashley tossed him off. Umaga continued to attack Lashley in the center of the ring. Estrada tried a second pinfall attempt but was thrown off again. Lashley coninued to lay in the ring with Umaga stepping on him then picking Lashley up. On his feet, Lashley started to battle back, punching Umaga, but Umaga then clotheslined him down. Umaga put Lashley in the corner where he began to choke Lashley. Lashley started to battle back again punching Umaga, but Umaga then pushed Lashley to the ropes and knocked him down. Estrada then walked on the fallen Lashley.
Umaga was able to continue toying with his opponent and knocked him into the corner. With Lashley seated in the corner of the ring, Umaga ran at him, snapping Lashley's head back. As Lashley got to his feet, center ring, Estrada tried to hold him for Umaga to jab with a thumb. Lashley able to escape it and shoved Estrada back. Estrada rolled out of the ring as Lashley mounted an attack on Umaga. Lashley ran off the ropes and ducked a flying Umaga, then speared him. Lashley tried for the pin, but Estrada got in the ring and jumped on him to break it up. Just then Lashley got up and began to confront Estrada in the corner of the ring. Umaga came running at Lashley, but Lashley stepped aside and Umaga crashed into Estrada. Lashley then knocked Umaga out of the ring and picked up Estrada. Lashley slammed Estrada down and scored a 3 count pinfall victory.
