Smackdown Recap 06.15.07


Recap of 6/15/07 Smackdown from Philadelphia, PA. (1 day late due to local baseball coverage on CW on Friday Night).

Smackdown started with a Parental Discretion warning due to the content involving Mr. McMahon. JBL & Michael Cole recounted the "Mr. McMahon Appreciation Night" events, including a speech by Mr. McMahon to kick off RAW, and then his entering the limo at the end of the show. JBL and Michael Cole added their commentary about Mr. McMahon's state of mind and how he appeared medicated.

Smackdown Superstars and Divas were assembled at the top of the ramp to pay their respects to Mr. McMahon. The ring announcer asked the crowd to stand and the bell was then tolled in honor of Vince. JBL told Michael Cole how much of an insult it was to see fans mocking the tribute and making cat calls when asked to stand to honor Vince. Michael Cole noted that all matches on tonight's show dedicated to the memory of Vince McMahon.

The reading of Ed Kaufman's statement on behalf of the McMahon family was shown. Kaufman is Executive Vice President and General Council for WWE, Inc.

Deuce & Domino vs. London & Kendrick - The former tag champs faced the current title holders in a non-title bout. It was noted that Domino injured himself above his left eye (during a live wwe show) and thats why he is wearing a bandaid. Early on Kendrick and London with tag work on Domino, tagging in and out for doubleteam moves. The duo targeted Domino's left arm. Deuce able to pull the top rope down as Kendrick went back against it and then fell over outside the ring. Domino then pulled Kendrick back into the ring by a suplex. Deuce and Domino able to keep Kendrick away from his partner for a small bit, until Kendrick finally able to jump over and make the tag. London came in and began to attack both men, then tried for a pin on Domino. Deuce managed to break up the pin. All 4 men got involved in the contest at once. London ended up alone in the ring by himself, as Kendrick landed outside the ring, with Domino on the apron. London able to jump off the turnbuckle to kick Domino off the side apron. London landed on the mat and as he sat up, took a kick to the face from Deuce, knocking him out. Deuce then scored a pinfall victory.

Winners: Deuce & Domino win via pinfall over Kendrick & London.

William Regal gave a recount of his times with Vince McMahon, including when Vince made him General Manager and when Vince made him kiss his backside.
Regal said he truly respects Vince McMahon and has lost a part of himself with the loss of Vince.

Teddy Long spoke about his involvement with the WWE and Vince McMahon. Teddy said Vince gave him opportunity in the WWE to prove himself. Teddy said there are 2 pictures he keeps on his Smackdown office on the wall, 1 of Martin Luther King and 1 of Vince McMahon.

Matt Hardy vs. William Regal - Early on Matt kept Regal down to the mat with a strong hold around Regal's neck and head. Regal finally backed Matt into the corner and took control of the match. Hardy once again put a hold on Regal to get him down to the mat, until Regal used a takedown to trip Hardy. The 2 continued to grapple in the ring, until Regal cheapshotted Hardy with a punch to the face. Matt able to elbow Regal off the ropesand slam him twice, then use a flying elbow off the corner ropes on Regal's head. Regal with another punch to Hardy's face off the ropes. Matt continued to stay in control of the match, as William Regal slid out of the ring. Matt went to go after him out of the ring but Regal pulled him out to the floor. Regal then pulled Matt onto the steel steps and kicked him. Hardy beat a 10 count back into the ring. Regal began to dominate from here, with a series of moves and then putting Hardy into a few submission type moves to wear him down. Matt finally able to escape a hold and drop to the mat, flipping Regal over him. Both men back up and Matt able to score a Side Effect on Regal with a near pin. Regal went for a Pedigree style move on Matt who was able to reverse it for a near pin. After getting out of the corner on a Regal attack, Matt able to perform the Twist of Fate and knock Regal down for the pin.

Winner: Matt Hardy wins via pinfall over William Regal.

WWE Smackdown Diva Jillian struggled with her words about Vince McMahon. She said she never dreamed she would be part of what happened Monday Night, and can't really put into words what she saw.

WWE.com Exclusive footage shown off Mr. McMahon's limo, engulfed in flames, and firefighters hosing down the blaze. JBL said an explosives expert mentioned that something as simple as a cell phone or radio could have detonated the gas tank, and the investigation continues.

Chavo Guerrero discussed how many viewed Vince as a "jerk", but that's how he got the business to where it is today. Chavo said alot of questions have come from Vince's passing, including will the WWE still be around, and Chavo said he hopes it will be.

MVP vs. Batista A rematch from last week's match, where Edge interfered giving Batista a DQ win over MVP. A new Vengeance match was announced, where Ric Flair will challenge MVP for the US title. Backstage, Ric Flair bumped into Batista, shook his hand and wished him good luck on the match tonight. In the first part of the match, Batista was able to knock MVP down several times and MVP used tactics to keep rolling out of the ring to take timeouts. MVP ducked under the ropes several times so the ref would stop Batista from coming at him. MVP cheapshotted Batista, knocking him down. Batista able to recover and once again, MVP exited the ring to the crowd's boos. Smackdown hit break with MVP out of the ring.

Back from break, MVP once again escaped the ring, drawing Batista out so he could throw him into the steel steps. Batista came back into the ring with an injured shoulder. The 2 men ended up out of the ring again, and this time MVP pushed Batista into the steel post and then the barricade. MVP used a boot to the face of Batista, knocking him over the barricade into the audience. MVP brought Batista back in the ring and tried to win the match. The 2 men fought back and forth with MVP trying to keep momentum. Batista battled back and able to clothesline MVP off the ropes. Batista started to dominate from here, showing his raw strength and power. Batista used a spear on MVP from the corner, and then hit the Batista Bomb to score the pinfall victory. Both men were worn out and battered from the match.

Winner:Batista wins via pinfall over MVP.

During the break of above match a promo was shown for August 26th's Summerlam. The announcer said Summerlsam is getting crashed, and then the Jackass flag was shown with Jackass theme music. More info available at SummerSlam.com.

Sgt. Slaugher, spoke on the loss of Mr. McMahon. Slaughter said he has lost his general and leader, who fought on the battlefield with everyone, never retreating. Slaughter said everyone needs to thank Vince for never retreating, and that he wants Vince to know wherever he is, Sgt Slaughter will keep fighting for WWE and the American Way.

Footage shown of Mr. McMahon's charred and destroyed limosine in Atlanta, GA from this past Thursday. Michael Cole said federal investigators have taken the limo to an impound lot where the investigation will continue. Daniel Back, "Lead Federal Investigator", was then shown at a podium saying since this is an open investigation, they would not be handling any questions related to the incident at this time.

Edge spoke about the loss of Mr. McMahon, and how he realizes the sacrifices the Vince made to help Edge get to where he is. Edge said he wonders who becomes the "rudder" of the WWE ship now, and who will keep WWE afloat now. Edge said this is a scary place to be and that probably sums up many people's feelings in the company.

Kristal spoke about Vince being a controversial chairman and she always saw him busy and passionate about what he loved to do. Kristal said her last interaction with Vince was really strange and she isn't sure what happened with Vince and her heart goes out to his family and the family and fans of WWE.

Daivari vs. Jamie Noble vs. Shannon Moore vs. Jimmy Wang Yang (Fatal Fourway Match) - Winner of this match would get a Cruiserweight title shot against Chavo at Vengeance Pay Per View. Chavo watched from the commentator's table as the men battled for this chance. The match seemed to have 2 men battling in ring at a time, with the other 2 usually knocked outside the ring. Both Noble and Moore did moves to fly over the ropes and land on their opponents. Wang yang then flew off the corner turnbuckle and landed on Noble and Daivari. Moore and Yang battled up on the corner turnbuckle, and Jamie Noble came over to try to interfere. Yang able to suplex Moore as Noble slammed them off the ropes. Noble and Moore both got tossed or knocked out of the ring again. Match ended when Yang flipped off the ropes with a moonsault onto Daivari and scored the pin. Yang pointed out at Chavo and motioned that he would be wearing his belt soon.

Winner: Jimmy Wang Yang wins via pinfall and will now face Chavo for the Cruiserweight title at Vengeance.

Ric Flair vs. Edge Flair made his Smackdown debut in a non-title match versus Edge. Flair with an early takedown of Edge and backed him into the ring corners. Flair "Woo'd!" at Edge several times and Edge slapped Flair in the face to taunt him. Flair began to clothesline and chop away at Edge from here, eventually knocking him down. Flair dominated the early part of the match and kept knocking Edge down. Flair went for a Figure 4, but Edge escaped to the ropes. Flair continued to dominate Edge with chest chops and then a half Boston crab style submission. Flair went for a 2nd Figure 4 attempt, but Edge was able to kick Flair away and then Edge exited the ring. Flair tried to chase Edge, who turned and punched Flair. Edge used a back bodydrop on Flair, and the 2 men lay outside the ring as Smackdown went to break.

Back from break, Flair continued to try to chest chop Edge, who started beating down on the Nature Boy in the corner. Edge continued to try to wear down Flair in the ring from here, despite Edge favoring an injured leg. Flair tried to battle back but Edge continued with punches on Flair. Edge ran across the ring and splashed onto Flair in the corner. Flair tried to grab Edge's leg and Edge used a spin kick to knock Flair down. Edge then climbed the corner ropes. As Edge jumped down, Flair had stood up and chopped Edge in his chest. Flair continued the chest chops, then flipped Edge over his back. Flair had the match in control and slapped a Figure 4 onto Edge. Just then, MVP ran down to the ring to interfere. Flair warded off the attack and MVP rolled out of the ring. As the bell rang, Edge then speared Flair down. Edge and MVP both tried to attack Flair, but Batista ran down to save Flair. Edge was able to catch Batista with a spear when he wasn't looking. Batista and Edge left laying in the ring as Edge backed up the ramp.

Winner: Ric Flair wins by DQ after MVP entered the ring and interfered in the match.
