WWE 25 Defining Moments

WWE.com has a list up of its "25 Moments That Changed WWE History". The list is based on historic wrestling business moves, wrestlers, matches and more which have defined and shaped WWE wrestling as we know it today. The list comes from the September 2007 issue of WWE Magazine and WWE.com say it is a "definitive list of people and events that created today’s WWE". Here's the rundown:

25. A Superstar Is Born - Hogan
24. Wrestling Gets Up Off The Mat
23. WWE Lays The SmackDown On Primetime - WWE spinoff TV show
22. “The Body” Moves Into The Governor’s Mansion
20. The Legend Trainer - Verne Gagne trains superstars
19. Freebirds Make An Entrance
18. Piper Opens His Mouth…And The Pit
17. Cruiserweights Take Flight - Pillman wins for WCW
16. The Rock Brings The Funny - SNL host
15. Wrestling Gets Cagey 07/02/37 - first cage match
14. New Champions Break Barriers - Ron Simmons/Pedro Morales
13. The Horsemen Build a Stable
12. The King vs. The Comedian (Lawler/Kaufman fight on Letterman)
11. The End of the War
10. Marian Roussimoff Gives Birth To A Giant 05/19/46 (Andre's birth)
09. A Night in Montreal Awakens the Devil (Vince screws Bret out of title)
08. Let the Bodies Hit the Floor - ECW is born from NWA
07. Breaking Away from the NWA - 1963 start of
06. WCW Fires The Future
05. A Man Named George Turns Gorgeous
04. Monday Night Gets Raw 01/11/93 - debut show
03. Pay-Per-View Mania 10/31/85 - Wrestlemania success as PPV
02. WCW Dominates - WCW scores with Hogan, Piper, Scott Hall, etc.
01. Vince Takes Wrestling National - Vince buys CWC from his dad and renames it, recruits from various wrestling circuits (Hogan, Piper, etc).

The list makes sense in terms of business decisions which have really changed the face of WWE and its merging of brands, etc. However I might rank the emergence of the attitude era which occurred in the 90's. The importance of Rock, Stone Cold and the rest can't be overlooked in how popular it made wrestling at that time. This list may be more about events which brought the WWE notoriety through headline news though, rather than the work of various superstars. I also wonder if the inclusion of Hogan at merely #25 is to respond to Hulk's recent comments regarding WWE policy. Mr. McMahon and the WWE know which stars have truly shaped the sport.
