Thoughts on Raw & Vince's Son

Last night's Raw definitely opened with an entertaining and interesting piece with Vince McMahon and Coach coming down to the ring to demand an answer as to who Vince's illegitimate WWE son is. JBL's bit on the microphone proved somewhat funny and added to the event more, and Jeff Hardy got a chance to talk a lot more than usual. As expected, fans were kept waiting right until the last moment of the show when Vince's illegitimate child was revealed to be the leprechaun, WWE's Hornswoggle, who lives underneath the ring.

Now the original plan according to various WWE rumor sites was that Mr. Kennedy would be the guy. In fact, it wouldn't be surprising if some sort of "tampering with the DNA test" is even thrown into the storyline, where it turns out that Mr. Kennedy is truly the son. Looking at Hornswaggle as Vince's son, it really makes it tough to see the story going very far because it makes little sense. He could scamper out from under the ring on occasion to interfere in matches involving wrestlers on Vince's hit list, and maybe provide some funny skits. Hornswoggle has a title already, so it would have made more sense for the son to be a superstar needing a championship title push. Mr. Kennedy is possibly amongst the suspended superstars of the WWE, so he had to be worked out of the story. It was unfortunate not to see him in his hometown for the fans, but those are the breaks. Hopefully the storyline does have a bit more to it in the sense that Mr. Kennedy is truly the son. Anything is possible in the WWE these days.

You'll also notice that King Booker, William Regal and Umaga were all absent from Raw. Booker has reportedly quit, although his name still appears on the Raw roster on WWE.com. Booker was also rumored to be suspended by the WWE as were Regal and Umaga. Some people claim that Vince McMahon has his wrestlers continue to work shows free of charge when suspended, but it's highly doubtful the WWE is taking any chances with that, especially since they are facing Congressional hearings later this month. Santino Marella and Randy Orton had originally been rumored as suspended but both were in attendance for the last 2 episodes of Raw.

Overall, the show was entertaining, the matches all had clear decisions this week, and the final elimination of superstars from around the ring made things somewhat interesting before Vince's son was revealed. With things now looking up for Hornswoggle, let's hope they start to look up for the WWE as well.
