WWE Raw Recap 10.22.07


Raw recap from Omaha, NE:

Tonight's Raw opened with Mr. Kennedy already standing in the ring. Kennedy took the mic from overhead and lobbied for the fans to vote for him to face Randy Orton at Cyber Sunday. Kennedy compared Jeff Hardy to Hilary Clinton and Shawn Michaels to Rudy Giuliani, insulting both men. Kennedy then listed off his accomplishments in the past two years, including his US title reign, winning Money in the Bank and defeating several former WWE champs.

As Kennedy was yelling out his name, all of a sudden Jeff Hardy began to speak on a mic. Kennedy looked around as the lights came on and finally spotted Hardy in the crowd. Hardy told Kennedy his approval rating sucks with the fans. Jeff then said Kennedy has been failing at everything lately and will fail at getting the fans' vote too. Hardy then charged into the ring to attack Kennedy. The two began to brawl. Just then, Randy Orton came down to the ring and he and Kennedy double teamed Hardy. Kennedy held Hardy's legs down on the mat as Orton looked down at him. Shawn Michaels ran down for the save and he and Orton rolled out of the ring brawling. Hardy recovered and clotheslined Kennedy out of the ring.

Jerry Lawler announced their would be a best 2 of 3 falls Women's championship match tonight with Candice challenging Beth Phoenix for the title.




Commercial shown for the 500th anniversary issue of WWE magazine. The magazine will include some of the greatest photos and stories from the history of the magazine.
Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler reviewed the earlier scuffle between Hardy, Kennedy, Orton and Michaels.

Kendrick, London and Mickie James vs. Cade, Murdoch and Melina

Cade started against London, with London using a running move off the ropes to take down Cade. Cade knocked London down off the ropes to take some control. Cade tried to go at London in the corner, but London was able to use his speed to escape. Kendrick and London continued to work well together, tagging in and out, Mickie tagged in and faced Melina. Mickie took control with a series of kicks, but Melina tagged Murdoch back in.

Kendrick came in and Murdoch used a jawbreaker on him. Cade and Murdoch tagged in and out against Kendrick, with Kendrick trying to fight back. Cade used a knee to Kendrick's head then tried to throw him to the ropes. Kendrick recovered and dropkicked Cade, then ducked a clotheslines from Murdoch. Kendrick tagged in London who used a high flying offense to take down Murdoch. Melina and Mickie got into it in the ring with Mickie tossing Melina out. With everyone in the ring, Cade went to clothesline London who ducked, causing Cade to knock his partner down. Kendrick came back into the ring and clotheslined Cade over the top ropes. As he and Cade spilled to the outside, London did a flip onto the fallen Murdoch and scored the pin.

Winners: Brian Kendrick, Paul London and Mickie James win via pinfall over Lance Cade, Trevor Murdoch and Melina.

The 2007 WWE Diva Search contest was shown with the final 3 contestants participating in "Mirandized" where they had to read Todd Grisham his rights and act as police women. The 3 contestants were shown backstage at Raw with Jim Ross said they'd be part of the show later tonight.




Shawn Michaels entered the locker room backstage where Jeff Hardy was to discuss their tag match for tonight. HBK told Hardy he has one goal and that is to destroy Randy Orton, and he will go for his third Sweet Chin Music in a row on Orton. HBK asked Hardy if he can count on him tonight. Hardy told Michaels he wants the opportunity to face Orton for the title too and he will do exactly what HBK would do in this situation.

Cody Rhodes shown reading the 500th edition of WWE magazine as Haas and Benjamin walked up to him backstage. Benjamin told Rhodes 500 is like the number of times he's been beaten up by Bob Holly now. Shelton told Rhodes tonight he will be the one beating him up. Rhodes insulted Shelton and said he actually respects Hardcore Holly but not Shelton. Shelton said after the loss tonight Rhodes can dye his hair blonde to be a less talented version of his father.

Coach spoke to William Regal backstage. Regal said Vince is out of the country and he wouldn't approve of Coach's request to have a match against Hornswoggle. Coach continued to ask for a match so Regal set up Coach vs. Hornswoggle. Coach suggested that Hornswoggle face Umaga instead and Regal began to smile as Raw went to commercial.




Cody Rhodes vs. Shelton Benjamin

Highlights from last week's loss Rhodes suffered to Hardcore Holly were shown prior to the match. Benjamin came down to the ring escorted by Charlie Haas.

Shelton started off with a kick to Rhodes' midsection then dropped him to the mat. Benjamin started to focus on the left leg of Rhodes, keeping him down to the mat as he jumped on it. Rhodes got to his feet to punch back, but Shelton kicked him down again. Rhodes was able to catch Benjamin with a knee off the ropes, then used a bulldog out of the corner. After a failed pin, Rhodes got distracted by Haas. Benjamin tried to roll up Rhodes from behind, but Rhodes reversed it and sat on Benjamin to score the pinfall victory.

After the win by Rhodes, Haas and Benjamin started to doubleteam. Hardcore Holly ran down to the ring and caused Haas and Benjamin to exit quickly. JR and Lawler remarked how unexpected it was that Holly would come down for the save.

Ross and Lawler discussed that Hornswoggle versus Umaga would take place in addition to the Women's title match and the big main event tag match.

Winner: Cody Rhodes wins via pinfall over Shelton Benjamin.



DH Smith vs. Carlito

The debut of the son of legendary British Bulldog, Davey Boy Smith saw him facing Carlito. Prior to the match, Smith said he was dedicating the debut match to his father.

Early on Carlito took the upperhand dropping Smith to the mat. Smith gained momentum as he came off the ropes, knocking Carlito back. Carlito rolled to the outside apron and was able to jump in on top of Smith. Carlito started to chop away at Smith in the corner of the ring, then slammed him down. Carlito held Smith's arms back and kept him down in a seated position for a bit. As Smith got to his feet, Carlito came off the ropes and clotheslined Smith back down. Smith was able to get up again and tried to battle Carlito. The 2 continued to grapple in the corner of the ring with Smith taking control.

Smith used a suplex then pin attempt which failed. Carlito landed an elbow off the ropes to Smith. Carlito was able to beat up DH a bit in the corner, until Smith whipped him to the opposite corner. Carlito ran to the corner and Smith ran at him. Carlito jumped up and Smith grabbed Carlito on one shoulder then did the famous running powerslam that his father used.

Winner: DH Smith wins via pinfall over Carlito.

Backstage, Candice and Beth Phoenix stared at each other. Beth said tonight Candice will worship the Glamazon and Candice said tonight she'll take the Women's championship belt back.

Umaga seen walking angrily backstage with Coach on the way out to face Hornswoggle.




Replay shown of last week's Hornswoggle antics where he was chased around by Coach, eventually leading Coach to chase him under the ring. Coach tried to use an explosive detonation device wired to explode under the ring. When it didn't work, Coach went under the ring and Hornswoggle snuck out, then detonated the device from in the ring.

Hornswoggle vs. Umaga

Coach brought Umaga down to the ring, Lillian announced Hornswoggle as the opponent and Umaga and Coach awaited his arrival down the ramp. Instead, he snuck out from under the ring and hesitated to enter against Umaga. Hornswoggle continued to look in at Coach and Umaga, then took off running up the ramp. All of a sudden, Triple H's music came on and the Game emerged from backstage. Triple H walked down angrily to the ring and entered, immediately attacking Umaga. Umaga shoved Triple H to the corner then shoved the ref away. Triple H then dove on top of Umaga punching away at him. The two men continued to brawl with about 4 refs and several WWE officials coming into the ring to break things up.

Umaga got pushed to the outside and then grabbed Triple H's foot to pull him outside the ring. Triple H escaped Umaga and grabbed a chair to go at Umaga but was hit in the process. Umaga tossed HHH onto the commentator table, and Triple H got up on top of to dive onto Umaga and the refs/officials. The two men continued to fight at the bottom of the ramp as about 10 men tried to hold them apart.

Winner: No match took place as Hornswoggle took off and Triple H came down to attack Umaga.




Ad for tomorrow's night ECW said the show will feature Kane taking on Big Daddy V in singles competition.

Umaga shown backstage going completely wild, tossing around equipment and tables as a group of 10 referees and officials surrounded him to try to keep him contained. Jim Ross told Lawler this Sunday's Pay Per View match between Umaga and Triple H will be just as wild, and it could be a street fight like we just witnessed.

Todd Grisham stood at the top of the ramp and discussed how after weeks of competition, just 3 WWE Diva hopefuls remain. Todd introduced Brooke, Eve and Lena to the fans and each woman came out to stand at the top of the ramp. Todd then announced that Lena will be going home, leaving just Eve and Brooke in the competition's final 2. Both women were given the mic with 30 seconds to tell the fans why they need to vote for them. Voting continues at WWE.com.

Mr. Kennedy came up to Randy Orton in the locker room. Orton told Kennedy tonight their goal would be to weaken Shawn Michaels. Kennedy said he plans to make his contribution tonight, but may make a statement after the match. Orton grabbed Kennedy by the arm and told him not to make an enemy of him.




Santino Marella came down to the ring with Maria who had the 500th edition of WWE magazine with her. Santino took the mic and began to talk about how all sorts of WWE stars were mentioned in the magazine. Santino said Stone Cold is mentioned plenty of times but Santino Marella is not mentioned at all. Marella told Maria to open to page 24 and just then the cryptic commercial for Y2J came on to the Titantron. Marella asked if that is Stone Cold sending some sort of message. Marella said if Austin tries anything he will open a can of ass whip on him. As Marella kept ranting, Ron Simmons' music came on and Simmons came down for the match.

Ron Simmons vs. Santino Marella

Marella began to kick Simmons in the leg early, but Simmons backed him into a corner. Marella reversed and tried to punch Simmons. Simmons blocked the punch and then knocked Marella down. Santino was able to grab Simmons' leg and take him down to the mat, then applied a headlock. Simmons finally got up and escaped, then tossed Marella to a corner. Simmons went to attack and Marella kicked him in the groin. The ref called for the bell as Simmons fell to the mat in pain from the low blow. It was unclear whether the match was stopped for injury or the DQ.

Winner: Ron Simmons wins due to disqualification of Santino Marella.

Backstage Todd Grisham interviewed Triple H about the Umaga incident earlier. An enraged Triple H said come Cyber Sunday Umaga will "play the Game" and know fear no matter what match type they compete in.




Candice Michelle vs. Beth Phoenix
Best 2 of 3 Falls Match

Beth and Candice grappled with Beth pushing Candice to the corner. Beth threw Candice to the other corner and Candice was able to flip onto the side apron. Candice punched Beth causing her to become stunned then jumped on her off the ropes. Candice continued with momentum off the ropes but Beth caught her and was able to hoist her up for her finisher. Beth slammed Candice to the mat then scored Pinfall #1. Raw went to break with Candice laying on the mat.

Fall#1: Beth Phoenix wins fall #1 via pinfall

Raw returned with Beth holding Candice's legs in a Boston Crab style submission hold. Candice struggled, trying to crawl to the bottom rope and break the hold. Beth turned Candice over onto her back, and this allowed Candice to kick Beth a bit to force her away. Beth continued to dominate her opponent, punching Candice as she stood up. Candice started to punch back then ran off the ropes several times to knock down Phoenix. Candice tried for several pins on Beth as she had the momentum, but failed at each. Candice then climbed the ropes to go for a high risk move, but Beth got up and ran over to the ropes. Candice lost her balance and fell to the mat. As Candice lay motionless on the mat, Beth dragged her over and scored an easy pin.

Winner: Beth Phoenix wins fall #2 by pinfall to retain the WWE Women's title.

After Beth left the ring with her belt, several referees and EMT's came to check on Candice. Candice was able to sit up and respond to them, but then layed back down, holding her neck. Eventually, a stretcher was brought down and Candice was put on with a neckbrace to be taken back to an ambulance. Replays showed that when Candice lost her balance, she took a fall off the top ropes and came down badly on her neck and head. Cameras cut to Randy Orton walking backstage with his WWE title, but no music played as usually does before commercials.




Jeff Hardy & Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton & Mr. Kennedy

Kennedy started off with Michaels as Orton backed out onto the apron. Kennedy got HBK to the corner and started to punch away. Michaels escaped and put Kennedy in the corner for several chest chops. Kennedy tried to throw HBK to the ropes, but Michaels used a neckbreaker and dropped Kennedy to the mat. Hardy tagged in to continue the fight against Kennedy.

Off the ropes Hardy grabbed Kennedy around the neck and took him down, then climbed the ropes to land an elbow drop on the back of Kennedy's neck/head. Hardy tossed Kennedy to the corner and ran at him, but Kennedy moved, allowing him to grab Hardy and tag in Orton. Orton had the upperhand briefly and Hardy fought back. Orton was able to clothesline Hardy down hard out of the corner, then tagged Kennedy back in. Kennedy continued to punch and beat up Hardy then tossed him to the ropes. Hardy finally escaped to bring in HBK who started to go wild against Kennedy knocking him down. Orton distracted HBK from the side apron, allowing Kennedy to attack from behind.

Orton came back in with HBK down and started to beat him down. Orton brought HBK to his feet and HBK was able to chest chop Orton to one corner. Orton whipped HBK out of the corner to the opposite side and HBK fell back to the mat. Kennedy tagged back in and held HBK down to the mat in a headlock, but HBK got up. Kennedy picked up HBK and delivered two straight backbreakers. Kennedy picked up HBK on his shoulders for the finisher, but HBK slid off. Kennedy was able to knock HBK down again off the ropes and Orton came back in. HBK pushed Orton to his corner and started to fight but Kennedy tagged in fast and then started to punch away at HBK on the mat.

Orton and Kennedy continued an effective doubleteam on Michaels, keeping him away from the tag to Hardy. As HBK got back to his feet, he and Orton started to trade shots. Orton grabbed HBK's leg to keep him from tagging Hardy, but HBK was able to land a kick to the back of Orton's head. HBK crawled over and jumped to tag Hardy just as Kennedy tagged in. Hardy gained serious momentum, dropping Kenned to the mat for a pin. Orton came in to break things up, and HBK came in to knock him out of the ring. With HBK and Orton outside the ring, Hardy climbed the corner ropes. Kennedy got up with him, but was shoved down and then Hardy landed the Swanton Bomb for a pinfall victory.

After the match Orton got in the ring and tried to RKO Hardy. Michaels got back in and delivered Sweet Chin Music to Orton, knocking him to the mat for the third straight week on Raw. Raw went off the air with HBK and Hardy in the ring looking at a fallen Orton.

Winners: Jeff Hardy and Shawn Michaels win via pinfall over Mr. Kennedy and Randy Orton.
