NBC American Gladiators Preview

This Sunday, NBC will begin broadcasting the athletic game show, American Gladiators. The show originated back in the 90's and was almost like a spin-off of professional wrestling. It features everyday athletic contestants competing against wrestler-like male and female gladiators. The gladiators have the role of trying to prevent the contestants from winning any of the games such as Joust or Hang Tough. In fact, AG spawned several other shows similar to it, with characters coming out to start feuds and talk trash (a lot like WWE does). On this newly revamped version, WWE wrestling legend Hulk Hogan will be one of the hosts along with Laila Ali, the famous boxing daughter of Mohammed Ali.

The games that you'll see on the upcoming show include: Assault, Earthquake, Eliminator, Gauntlet, Hang Tough, Hit and Run, Joust, Power Ball, Pyramid and Wall. Joust is most commonly associated with the show as it involves two contestants trying to knock each other off small platforms using jousting sticks. On Hang Tough, a contestant must hang from rings high above the mats below, while avoiding a gladiator. The contestant who stays up longest, avoiding the gladiator, wins. And those are just 2 of the many exciting games that the show will present. Other games will add the extra elements of water and fire.

The Gladiator roster includes the following:

Female Gladiators: Crush, Fury, Hellga, Siren, Stealth
Male Gladiators: Titan, Justice, Mayhem, Militia

American Gladiators is set to premiere on NBC this Sunday, January 6th at 9PM EST.
