WWE's 2008 HOF Induction Ceremony


The 2008 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony was shown from Orlando, Florida on Saturday 3/29/08. Inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame for 2008 are Ric Flair, Eddie Graham, Gordon Solie, Mae Young, Rocky Johnson, High Chief Peter Maivia, and Jack and Gerald aka The Brisco Brothers.

Todd Grisham opened for the 2008 ceremony to introduce the Rock. WWE Divas Kelly Kelly and Eve Torres acting as ushers for the Hall of Famers to the stage. Grisham introduced The Rock to start off the proceedings. A mixture of cheers and boos came through as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson came to the stage. Resounding "Rocky" and "1 More Match" chants could also be heard as fans stood and applauded the "Great One". Rock kicked off with one hell of a speech to begin things.

Rock said something was missing before beginning his speech, then retrieved a handheld microphone to yell out "Finally the Rock has come back to Orlando!" Rock pointed out it was great to see all the smiling faces in the audience, such as Stone Cold & Mick Foley. Rock reminisced over the "Rock N Sock Connection", and Foley stood up showing he still had Mr. Socko with him. Rock also remarked to Jericho about his haircut looking like Backstreet Boys coming to Orlando. Rock also joked about Iraqi soldiers being caught and tortured by watching copies of "The Marine". Rock joked about Santino Marella's hair then asked his name, yelling "It doesn't matter what your name is!"

Rock inducted his father "Soul Man" Rocky Johnson. Johsnon was huge on the wrestling scene during the 1970's. Rocky married Peter Maivia's daughter as well, and the unison brought "The Rock" into this world. On November 15, 1983 Johnson and Tony Atlas became 1st African American tag team to win the WWE Tag Team titles. Rocky Johnson said he wants to be remembered for paving the way for all athletes, regardless of race, color or beliefs.

Next, Rock inducted his late grandfather, the High Chief Peter Maivia. A video package was shown of how Maivia dominated New Zealand, Hawaii and San Fransisco. Ata Maivia Johnson, who is Rock's mother and Peter's daughter, accepted his induction on stage. Ata spoke about her dad's love for the business that so many wrestlers today exemplify.

John Cena came on stage to boos and cheers. Randy Orton was shown in the audience several times. Cena spoke about the excitement for tomorrow's Wrestlemania. Cena told the audience how they feel towards him is not important, it's the Hall of Famers who truly made WWE. Cena asked the crowd to stand and applaud every Hall of Famer ever inducted. The night's previous inductees were shown on a video package - Eddie Graham, Gordon Solie, Mae Young & The Brisco Brothers.

Ric Flair was the final inductee of the ceremony. Flair's longtime pal, Triple H introduced the Nature Boy. Triple H said it's hard to talk about and sum up Flair, but that he should have his own wing of the Hall of Fame. Flair's video package discussed his decades of wrestling through NWA, WCW and WWE, as well as him heading the Four Horsemen. Flair has won the World Championship 16 times. His microphone skills were also praised. Various wrestling stars such as Shawn Michaels, Jim Ross, CM Punk, Chris Jericho and Barry Windham shown giving comments about Flair's impact on pro wrestling.

Triple H said "Flair has so much passion that he eats, sleeps and breaths the business", and that "Flair was is and always will be The Man". Ric Flair made his way to the podium to a standing ovation, as fans applauded his legendary career and achievements. Ric Flair spoke of his 35 year journey through wrestling that began in Minnesota. Flair spoke of his love and respect for his co-workers from all 3 brands over the past 7 years. Flair said he never took the business for granted and gave it his all every time he entered the ring. Flair also spoke about Triple H being the wrestler most like him in his prime, and there's a reason they call him "The Game". Flair extended respect to Shawn Michaels as well for becoming one of the greatest WWE Superstars there is today. Flair thanked the support of his friends, fans and family who helped him achieve.
