Wrestlemania 24 Predictions

The great thing about WWE's biggest Pay Per View of the year is the element of surprise. With "The Granddaddy of them all", Wrestlemania 24, we have a Triple Threat title match which could go several ways. The same goes for Money in the Bank and the 24 Man Battle Royal, both of which can offer surprises for the Pay Per View and other match outcomes. Expect to see 3 title changes, some surprise returns and celebrity mayhem at this huge outdoor wrestling event in Orlando.

The following predictions are from here at WWE Characters the Blog. Feel free to leave your own predictions for specific matches in the comments. Remember tonight's event starts at 7PM EST on Pay Per View and there is a "Freeview" at 6:30PM EST on WWE.com of the 24 Man Battle Royal. Without further ado, here's thoughts and predictions on each of the matches for Wrestlemania 24...

Floyd Mayweather vs. Big Show

The WWE fans clearly don't approve of Floyd Mayweather even if Show is a heel right now. With that in mind, it would be strange to see Mayweather pick up the victory here. He's got $20 million already, and for all we know this could be some sort of Punk'd episode where the jokes on us. WWE announced the "anything goes" rules and that there must be a winner here, making you think they have a surprise up their sleeves. There had been rumors that Rey Mysterio gets involved in this somehow, as he's a friend of Mayweather's. Maybe Oscar De La Hoya, Evander Holyfield or even Mike Tyson makes a surprise entrance. Mayweather winning by countout or DQ might likely save both men's reputations here, but it works best for a returning Big Show if he wins it. It's hard to see this going beyond Wrestlemania so it would need to end here. WWE really needs a draw with this match or a huge surprise to make it work, so Rey Mysterio or a big surprise star would help.

WWE Characters: Big Show wins despite a valiant effort from Mayweather. Rey Mysterio or another boxer may play a part as well.

Undertaker vs. Edge
World Heavyweight title

As WWE fans know, Undertaker's impressive 15-0 undefeated streak is on the line here. Undertaker won the World Heavyweight title at last year's Mania against Batista and it wouldn't be surprsing at all for him to take out Edge. As mentioned before, WWE could go the unpopular way and have Edge retain by DQ, which keeps Taker's streak going, but wouldn't give him the title. The way it looks we will see Undertaker finally get his hands on Edge long enough to deliver a Tombstone piledriver or Chokeslam for the win. Don't be surprised if Taker also has to fight off Edge's team of Ryder and Hawkins and Chavo too.

WWE Characters: Undertaker wins to become new World Heavyweight champion with the undefeated streak still going at 16-0.

Cena vs. Triple H vs. Orton
WWE Title Triple Threat

John Cena is looking to take back the title he never lost. Triple H is looking to take back the title he had for just a few hours at a Pay Per View. Orton is looking to defend his reputation and title. Cena defeated HHH at Wrestlemania just 2 years ago, and HHH will likely gain revenge here, defeating Cena in the ring to take the WWE title. It also wouldn't be out of question for a double pin by Cena and HHH, with a deciding match on the next night's episode of Raw.

WWE Characters: HHH takes back the WWE title he held for just a brief time at the Pay Per View, where Orton won it. Triple H most likely pins Cena for the victory, gaining revenge for Cena's victory at WM22.

Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair
Career Threatening Match

Flair had quite a victory celebration on this past Monday Night Raw at University of South Carolina. That would make you think it was a last hoorah sort of thing. Flair's been on all the major shows this past year, he's received a key to the city of Columbia, SC and now a Hall of Fame induction in 2008. That leaves this match wide open for his good pal, the Showstopper Shawn Michaels to defeat him. Michaels was also involved in the classic Montreal Screwjob with Bret Hart, and now he gets to end a legend's career. It may be a passing of the torch type moment, from Flair to Michaels.

WWE Characters: Shawn Michaels defeats Ric Flair, ending a legendary career.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match

The WWE can go several ways with this one. For example, Mr. Kennedy hasn't wrestled in a while and could reclaim the briefcase that Edge took from him last year. He could cash in the briefcase, attack Edge and take his title before Undertaker gets a chance at it. Or he could cash it in after Undertaker has won and been worn down. Kennedy could go after the WWE title as well, cashing in to defeat an already worn out new champ. The way I see this one, Shelton Benjamin or Punk win it for the ECW brand to get some respect. After all ECW isn't represented in the Brand Superiority match. Punk wins, then goes on to cash it in for the title Chavo took away.

WWE Characters: CM Punk wins the briefcase then cashes it in against Chavo or the current ECW champion (maybe Dreamer) at Wrestlemania.

24 Man Battle Royal

Like this year's Royal Rumble it wouldn't be too far fetched to expect some surprise returning entrant to win this. Possibly a Matt Hardy or Gregory Helms, or even the Boogeyman or Hornswoggle is a possibility to enter and win this battle. The winner of course challenges Chavo right after the battle royal for the ECW title. Competing WWE Superstars include Kane, Big Daddy V, Mark Henry, Great Khali and Chuck Palumbo. WWE did a good job keeping Cena a surprise for the Royal Rumble, so this could be the big surprise of Mania here. After seeing the 12 on 12 tag match, and then Dreamer vs Chavo, Tommy Dreamer just might overcome the odds to win this and face Chavo at Mania for the title. Don't be surprised if CM Punk or Shelton Benjamin is waiting for Dreamer with the MITB briefcase though!

WWE Characters: Tommy Dreamer wins the 24 man battle royal, barring any surprise entrants.

Batista vs. Umaga
Brand Superiority

This match basically gives bragging rights to Raw or Smackdown depending on the winner. Both men have been impressive in recent weeks, making it tough to call. Since it would be ridiculous to call either brand superior, (even if Raw does better), I expect Umaga and Batista to tie somehow, whether it be a countout or DQ involvement from other wrestlers. The other scenario could see Batista win it, making him the first likely challenger for Undertaker as World Heavyweight champ.

WWE Characters: Batista and Umaga fight to a draw by countout or double DQ.

JBL vs. Finlay
Belfast Brawl

This comes after JBL brutally attacked Hornswoggle twice, then called out Finlay as the "true father of the mutant". Not sure if the WWE wants to extend this feud beyond Mania, but it's pretty obvious we will see Hornswoggle pop up during this match. It could be a drawn out bloody and brutal match. Most likely Hornswoggle helps out his dad when he gets a key shilaleigh shot to JBL's leg, groin or head.

WWE Characters: Finlay wins over JBL thanks to Hornswoggle.

Ashley & Maria vs. Melina & Beth Phoenix
Bunnymania Lumberjill match

This one features the most recent WWE Divas to appear in Playboy pictorials, with Ashley Massaro & Maria Kanellis facing Melina & Beth. Snoop Dogg's the special Master of Ceremonies, so it wouldn't be surprising if the Godfather Pimp shows up with his Ho Train. Expect the Playboy girls to win this one, after Santino tries to interfere and Snoop Dogg pimp slaps him. It could be a fun match but definitely won't be the best of the card.

WWE Characters: Maria & Ashley win after some antics from Santino Marella, Snoop Dogg and who knows who else.

Expect to see at least 3 titles change hands tonight, with the Money in the Bank maybe making for a fourth title change! It's going to be a wild night full of surprises, entertainment and wrestling action! Enjoy tonight's Superbowl of WWE Wrestling!
