ECW Recap 04.22.08

ECW Recap from Greensboro, NC:

ECW opened up with Mike Adamle saying tonight we will see Kane appear on Edge's Cutting Edge show. Just then, Kelly Kelly arrived down the ramp to the ring for the first match.

Kelly Kelly & Tommy Dreamer vs. Layla & Mike Knox
Mixed Tag Match

Footage was shown from last week where Tommy was scheduled to face Mike Knox. ECW GM Armando Estrada came down the ramp to tell Dreamer to head back to the locker room so his good pal Colin Delaney could wrestle Knox instead. Delaney was decimated and lost quickly.

Layla started off gaining the advantage on Kelly Kelly. Layla tried to hit Kelly face first into the corner, but Kelly recovered and knocked Layla back for a pin attempt. The two WWE Divas soon tagged out to let the guys wrestle. Mike Knox connected on a vicious clothesline to take Dreamer down, then choked him against the ropes a bit. Dreamer was able to stick a boot in Knox's face in the corner, then hit a bulldog. Kelly and Layla tagged back in, with Kelly taking control using dropkicks. Kelly flew off the corner ropes to land on Layla. Knox came in to disrupt the pinfall. Dreamer entered and clotheslined Knox over the top rope, going out with him.

With Kelly and Layla alone in the ring, Kelly Kelly was able to eventually hit her finisher and slam Layla face first to the mat. After the pinfall victory, Knox re-entered the ring and did his finisher on Dreamer, leaving him laying in the ring.

Winners: Kelly Kelly & Tommy Dreamer win via pinfall over Layla and Mike Knox.

Mike Adamle and Tazz revisited last night's pre-recorded video speeches by Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John McCain. Each of the 3 politicians used references to wrestling and WWE while trying to appeal to the WWE fans for votes.

John Morrison vs. Jimmy Wang Yang

Morrison was accompanied to the ring with tag team partner, The Miz who joined Mike Adamle and Tazz for commentary. Jimmy Wang Yang brought Shannon Moore down with him. Morrison took control for a bit until Yang used his quickness to slide under him then use a headscisors. Yang clotheslined Morrison out of the ring, then went out to chase him back in. Yang continued to strike Morrison but John soon slapped a headlock on Yang. Morrison began to kick away at and isolate the left leg and knee of Yang.

Yang was able to grab Morrison around the neck with his legs and flip him over. Morrison went for Yang's leg again, but Yang delivered a kick to the head, then used a monkeyflip on Morrison. Yang went to the corner where Morrison knocked him down to the mat. Morrison got on the corner and tried to flip himself onto Yang, but Yang moved away. With Morrison recovering, Yang climbed the corner yet again and did a Moonsault to land on his opponent. Yang grabbed Morrison's legs to secure the pinfall.

Winner: Jimmy Wang Yang wins via pinfall over John Morrison.

The Raw Rebound covered last night's King of the Ring Tournament featuring MVP, CM Punk, Chris Jericho, Matt Hardy, Finlay, Great Khali, Hornswoggle and William Regal. Regal took advantage of Finlay who had been injured by Khali, then Regal defeated a worn down CM Punk, using a submission hold to make Punk tap out. William Regal is now the 2008 WWE King of the Ring.

Mike Adamle and Tazz ran down the matches for this Sunday's Backlash PPV including Edge vs. Undertaker, Shawn Michaels vs. Batista with Chris Jericho as Special Guest Ref and the Fatal Fourway Elimination for the WWE title.

Kofi Kingston was shown warming up backstage for his match agaisnt Shelton Benjamn. Shelton came up behind him and Kofi started to talk about Shelton and how impressive his achievements are in wrestling. Kingston offered a handshake and said "may the best man win" but Shelton simply chuckled. Shelton asked Kofi if he's undefeated then said "that ends tonight".

Kofi Kingston vs. Shelton Benjamin

Early on Shelton yanked Kofi's arm bringing him down to the mat. Kingston flipped back up to his feet then delivered a high dropkick on Benjamin. Shelton recovered to throw a headlock on Kingston, but Kingston shoved him to the ropes. Shelton was able to catch a flying Kingston as he came off the ropes, then Shelton slammed him shoulder first into his knee. Shelton sat on Kingston down on the mat and pulled his arm back to keep him down.

Kofi stood up to fight back and Shelton whipped him to the ropes. Kofi hit a flying bodypress, but Shelton hit a flying armbar on Kingston after. Shelton ran at Kingston when he was against the ropes, but Kingston flipped Shelton over the top. Shelton landed on the side apron then yanked Kofi's arm down against the top rope. Shelton climbed the corner and jumped at Kofi, but Kofi was quick to deliver a high dropkick to Shelton mid-air.

Shelton continued to target Kofi's shoulder and arm by locking an armbar in. Shelton become ferocious with his attack throwing a serious shoulder to knock Kofi down. Shelton continued to beat on Kofi, hammering down on his back. Shelton went to kick Kingston, but Kofi ducked then delivered a swift roundhouse kick to Shelton's head.

Winner: Kofi Kingston wins via pinfall over Shelton Benjamin.

Footage shown from last year's mock Political Smackdown between Hillary Clinton (with Bill) verusus Barack Obama. The two look alikes did battle briefly in the ring using moves from Hulk Hogan and The Rock. Bill Clinton interfered to trip the Barack immitator down, and then Umaga came to the ring. Umaga used a Samoan Spike to drop Barack to the mat, then a Samoan Slam to lay out the fake Hillary.

Nunzio vs. Mark Henry

Henry used a headbutt once the bell rang to knock Nunzio down, then tossed him into the corner. Henry started stomping on Nunzio, then picked him up to toss him into the corner again. Henry continued to bash Nunzio into the corner. The ref backed Henry away and Nunzio sat on the corner. Nunzio tried to jump at Henry who caught him, then slammed him to the mat for a pin.

Winner: Mark Henry wins via pinfall over Nunzio.

The camera showed Kane waiting backstage for the upcoming Cutting Edge in the ring.

Cutting Edge with Kane

Edge's in ring talk show featured the ECW champion Kane who will be heading to Backlash to defend against Chavo Guerrero. Edge brought Ryder & Hawkins down to the ring for the show. Edge reminded fans that he beat Kane last night in the 8 Man Tag match on Raw, and then said Chavo will beat him for the ECW title this Sunday.

Kane came down to the ring and brought forth the huge explosion of pyro from the four ring corners. Edge commented how many people think that the Brothers of Destruction are the most dominant force in all of WWE now that both Kane and Taker are champions. Edge said Kane's parents must be proud, and Kane interrupted to say his parents are dead and Edge might be too if he's not careful. Edge brought up Kane's emotional problems with Undertaker, wearing the mask, and his failed relationship with Lita. Edge said he had planned to marry Lita until Kane ruined their wedding day. Edge also reminded Kane that he had the World Heavyweight title, but Kane injured him and cost him that title. Edge said it was a blessing in disguise because while he was hurt he met Vickie Guerrero. Edge said he was thanking Edge for bringing them all together.

Edge remarked how Kane and Undertaker stole two important items, the ECW title and World Heavyweight title from Edge's "family". Edge said this Sunday, his family will take back the titles that belong to them. Kane said after Backlash they won't have the titles or much of a family left. Kane said he'll destroy Chavo and if Bam Neely interferes he'll never get to know him. Kane said Undertaker may also add 3 more victims if Ryder & Hawkins interfere when Edge faces Taker. Kane said Vickie may be the only remaining family member afterwards. Kane then promised Edge he and Taker will take real good care of Vickie. Edge got upset and went at Kane. Kane began to battle Edge, Ryder and Hawkins but soon reinforcements came.

Bam Neely and Chavo ran down to the ring to aid in a 5 on 1 attack of Kane. After a beatdown in the corner of the ring, Ryder, Hawkins, Neely and Edge all held down Kane's arms and legs. Chavo grabbed a steel chair then repeatedly smashed it down on Kane's left knee/leg. Kane writhed around in pain, holding his knee. Neely grabbed his leg and held him down again allowing Chavo another shot to injur Kane more. ECW ended with Kane layed out in the ring holding his leg, as Chavo, Neely, Edge, Ryder & Hawkins stood at the top of the ramp.
