WWE Mysteries: Bourne, Punk, HBK?

This past week's episode of Monday Night Raw seemed to bring forth several mysteries, and they had nothing to do with the Kane vs. Rey Mysterio situation. These mysteries involve superstars Evan Bourne, CM Punk and Shawn Michaels. Each wrestler played a part in the show and may currently be enigmatic to fans as to what their role really is as a contender, wrestler or champion.

For example, CM Punk opened the show in what you might call a rematch. Well not quite, it was Punk's attempt to get back his World Heavyweight title which he never in fact lost. The title reign of Punk is definitely baffling and you have to wonder if he only won the title how he did in order to give Edge some rest on Smackdown. Triple H moves to Smackdown, but not long after Edge visits Raw where Punk was just drafted. Punk cashes in the MITB and Edge no longer has a title to worry about on Smackdown. But then Punk really only defends the title successfully against JBL. He didn't actually beat Batista on his own, without the interference of Kane or someone else coming into play. It's surely a mystery why the company gave Punk this sort of weak and short-lived title reign. It would be a strange punishment to reward a superstar briefly then remove his title, especially when its the World Heavyweight. Possibly Punk will be a Wrestlemania comeback story, but it's hard to see him headlining that sort of event now. Any ideas?

Next up is Evan Bourne, who now has made 2 consecutive appearances on Raw, despite the fact he is an ECW superstar. He's definitely entertaining and can add value to any of the rosters. A lot of people complained that the draft really doesn't matter, and you'd have to wonder if Bourne will be moving to a show like Raw where's he seen more often. There's no reason to waste good talent either, and why not bolster the brand? Raw's in need of stars with Cena out and Orton recovering. Or it's possible that WWE brought Bourne to Raw a few times so people would know who he is and tune in to ECW.

Finally, we have what seems to have become the same sad story of Shawn Michaels. Let's face it the guy's one of the best talents and personalities in the WWE with his deliveries both on the mic and in the ring. However, the WWE doesn't reward him with major titles anymore. He's been in big title fight after title fight, but doesn't win them. Instead he's used to help make the champ look better (ie Cena, HHH, Orton, etc). His last title reign was one of those commonplace tag team title reigns with Cena. The sorta tag team that doesn't really want to be together, but somehow their overwhelming talent wins the titles for a few weeks before their big match. So now we have Shawn Michaels back in the title picture again, but merely to give us an entertaining ladder match which Jericho wins. These two have had great contests with each winning several of them. HBK had the last round, so why wouldn't Y2J beat HBK at his own ladder match now? But back to the former champ. CM Punk had just 1 chance and is seemingly completely out of the picture now? Mysterious indeed...

A few closing notes...ECW will be moving to a 9PM EST start time in 2 weeks on Sci-Fi. The big debut of Smackdown comes to MyNetworkTV October 3rd. The debut features a colossal matchup in which the 3 major title holders will compete in one match. Matt Hardy the ECW champ vs. Chris Jericho the World Heavyweight champ vs. Triple H the WWE champ.
