ECW Recap 07.14.09

ECW Recap from Miami, FL:

ECW opened with highlights of the Christian vs Vladimir Kozlov match last week. Christian won after removing the turnbuckle cover and Kozlov hit face first into the exposed steel. Christian now heads to Night of Champions to face Tommy Dreamer for the ECW title.

Christian vs. Shelton Benjamin

Vladimir Kozlov provided guest commentary. Late in the match, Christian went to the corner with Shelton jumping up to fight. Christian shoved him off then hit the missile dropkick. Christian failed at his pinfall attempt and Shelton took control with a hold on the mat.

Later still, Christian was taken down from the corner by Shelton and appeared to hurt his arm or shoulder. Christian recovered but still favored the injury. He went for the Killswitch with Shelton shoving him shoulder first to the post, then hitting Paydirt for the surprise win!

Winner: Shelton Benjamin wins via pinfall over Christian.

Backstage, Gregory Helms spoke with Ezekiel Jackson. Jackson said being drafted to ECW was great for him, and while he was off he got in the best shape of his life. Asked about being in Brian Kendrick's shadow, Jackson said he was hired by Kendrick because Kendrick needed him, but now he's going to make his own name.

Yoshi Tatsu vs. Paul Burchill

Katie Lea joined her brother at ringside. During the match, the veteran Burchill took control and seemed to dominate the newcomer. At one point, he tried to toss Yoshi over the ropes but Yoshi landed on the apron. Yoshi went for a springboard move but lost his footing and slipped, falling to the mat. Burchill capitalized with a backslam but the pin didn't work since Yoshi's arm was under the bottom rope. Yoshi got up as Burchill was arguing with the ref, then delivered his solid kick to Burchill's head to win it.

Winner: Yoshi Tatsu wins via pinfall over Paul Burchill.

The commentary team reminded fans that next week's guest hosts for Raw will be ZZ Top.

Tiffany was shown in her office backstage. Tyler Reks came in to introduce himself, and asked for the chance to make his in-ring debut on ECW next week. Tiffany said that might be arranged.

Goldust vs. Zack Ryder

Late in the match, Goldust hit an elbow drop off the corner on Ryder's head. Ryder kicked out of the pinfall, and Goldust whipped him to the corner. As Goldust walked towards him, Ryder tripped Goldust into the bottom turnbuckle, then hit the Zack attack for the win.

Winner: Zack Ryder wins via pinfall over Goldust.

Raw Rebound highlighted Seth Green as the show's guest host Monday night. Seth scheduled a Divas Summer Swimsuit Spectacular featuring six divas in bikinis wrestling. Seth also inserted himself into the main event with John Cena and HHH as his partners to face Randy Orton and Legacy. During the match, Seth Green was almost hit by an Orton punt kick, but Cena made the save. Things got out of hand as all competitors got in the ring, including Dibiase with a steel chair. HHH grabbed his sledgehammer and cleared the ring, nearly clocking Cena. The two stared each other down after the incident.

Footage was shown from last week's rescue made by The Hurricane of a woman who fell off a ladder backstage. ECW GM Tiffany showed up asking what happened but nobody could tell her.

Roman Cornell vs. Sheamus

Before the match, Sheamus cut a promo on the mic saying nobody will stand in his path to be the most dominant ECW star ever. In a textbook superstar versus amateur match, Sheamus dominated as he beat unmercifully on the opponent. Cornell had a brief burst of offense which Sheamus answered with a big boot followed by a finisher where he slammed the man;s back against his knee.

Winner: Sheamus wins via pinfall over Roman Cornell.

Highlights were shown again of last week's Christian versus Kozlov #1 Contender match. Next week, Christian and Tommy Dreamer will be guests on The Abraham Washington Show.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Vladimir Kozlov

In about a 10 minute match, Kozlov showed his strength and power with Dreamer fighting back. Dreamer seemed to have answers for most of Kozlov' offense, including fighting Kozlov off the corner. Dreamer gave a boot to Kozlov as he came back at him, but on the jump off the corner, Kozlov swatted Dreamer down from the air. Kozlov followed up with his Iron Curtain slam to finish Dreamer for a pinfall win.

Kozlov locked in a submission hold after the bell to punish Dreamer more. Christian ran down to try to save Dreamer, but as he went to clothesline Kozlov, he ducked. Christian ended up hitting Dreamer on mistake, and Kozlov used a battering ram move to level Christian. Kozlov left the ring with Christian and Dreamer decimated on the mat.

Winner: Vladimir Kozlov wins via pinfall over Tommy Dreamer.
