Raw Preview 07.06.09

Tonight's episode of Raw will feature an epic battle between the roster's two biggest superstars, as they try to become #1 Contender for Randy Orton's WWE Title. John Cena will bring his "Hustle, Loyalty, Respect" as he tries to defeat The Game, Triple H, in the Finals of the Night of Champions tournament. Both men are former champions looking to regain their glory. The winner of the match will go on to the Night of Champions Pay-Per-View to fight Orton for the championship. Several weeks ago, Triple H managed to win a tough 10-man Battle Royal by eliminating Cena last. Cena and Triple H have had several battles in the past, including Wrestlemania main events, one of which was a Triple Threat match that had Randy Orton as the WWE champion. Tonight's battle will be for a huge prize, but both men may have had a lot taken out of them. John Cena was taken to his limits by The Miz, while Triple H overcame MVP, despite HHH's injuries from The Bash Stretcher Match against Orton. Who will come out on top in tonight's huge matchup and go on to face Randy Orton for the WWE Championship?

Last week's Raw also saw 3 former ECW superstars who were acquired by Raw in a huge 15-Superstar trade, orchestrated by Donald Trump a week earlier. Evan Bourne, Jack Swagger, and Mark Henry were all surprise additions to the Monday night Raw program. Not only that, but these 3 men debuted in a 3-on-1 Gauntlet match against WWE Champ Randy Orton, per the orders of Raw's guest host, Batista. Batista set up the match to show Orton just what it felt like to go 3-on-1, since Orton did the same to Batista weeks ago when Legacy sidelined him. In the main event, each of the newcomers made their way out to the ring to face Orton. In the first match, Orton handled Evan Bourne with an eventual RKO off the ropes. In the second match, Jack Swagger got himself purposely counted out in a show of respect for the champion. But in the final part of the Gauntlet, Mark Henry chose to make a different type of statement when he pretended to start getting counted out, then got back into the ring to fight Orton. Henry managed to win the match with a World's Strongest Slam, but it was after Orton had barely survived a tough "3 Stages of Hell" match the night before. Will Mark Henry make a claim towards being part of the WWE Title picture? What will Orton have to say regarding the loss to Henry?

Raw also saw two interesting developments in other title chases on last week's episode. First off, Mickie James won a divas Fatal Fourway match against Beth Phoenix, Rosa Mendes and Kelly Kelly. The current Divas champion, Maryse happened to be watching from ringside and taunted Mickie afterwards. Mickie has now earned herself a shot at Maryse's title, but will she be able to make good on being the #1 Contender? Will Mickie become the next diva to win both of the titles since Michelle McCool just did so at The Bash? Also, Big Show and Kofi Kingston did battle on Raw. Show had Kofi on the outside of the ring and was about to smash him into the ringpost, but Kofi wisely slipped off and shoved Show into the post. Neither man was able to answer the ref's 10 count to get back into the ring, forcing the double countout. Will these two do battle again on tonight's show?
