Smackdown Recap 09.11.09

Smackdown Recap from Rockford, IL:

Jim Ross welcomed fans to tonight's episode of Smackdown, just before The Undertaker made his entrance to the arena. In the ring, Undertaker talked up Breaking Point and his main event submission title match. He said he plans to reclaim the World Heavyweight Title this coming Sunday, because CM Punk is growing tired and will be broken by the Hell's Gate submission hold. Undertaker vowed to make Punk submit and then take his soul. CM Punk came out to confront Taker on his statement.

Punk said that Undertaker is worse than Jeff Hardy since he's been preying on souls for over 20 years now. Punk added that he won't be added to Taker's list of other victims like Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan, because he's stronger than those wrestlers. Punk said he only wants to make the Deadman tap out, and said he can imagine the fans going back to their bottles to destroy their lives if he does. Punk said they'd get to see his submission later tonight when he makes Matt Hardy tap out to the Anaconda Vice. Punk reminded fans of his "straight-edge" reign and said they'll be forced to join him in saying "just say no". Undertaker told him the fans won't be saying "just say no" it will be "rest in peace".

It was announced that Mike Knox and Finlay would square off in a Belfast Brawl, up next.

Finlay vs. Mike Knox
Belfast Brawl

JR compared this to an "Irish Street Fight". Early in the match, Knox took control against Finlay, and was about to get a weapon from the outside. Finlay used a baseball slide dropkick to prevent Knox from grabbing a weapon. Finlay was then sent head first into the announce table, and Knox grabbed a steel chair. Finlay managed to get the chair out of his hands. Back in the ring, Knox kicked the chair into Finlay's face right before a commercial break.

When Smackdown returned, Knox used a sidewalk slam to drop Finlay on a steel chair. Finlay was knocked outside the ring, and Knox tossed three garbage cans at Finlay. Knox then kicked Finlay into the crowd barrier. Knox went after Finlay who dropped him over the barricade. Knox recovered to slam Finlay back into the barricade and eventually went under the ring for a table. In the closing moments, Knox jumped off the ropes for a cross body but Finlay had his shillaleigh in hand to clock him. Finlay scored the winning pinfall after getting out from under Knox.

Winner: Finlay defeated Mike Knox by pinfall in a Belfast Brawl.

Backstage, Dolph Ziggler was shown about to knock on the Divas locker room door. Michelle McCool interrupted him, asking if he was looking for Maria. Michelle knocked on the door, and then Layla came out. Layla said Maria wasn't in there. Michelle then said Dolph should be dating someone sexy like her. She pretended to lose her balance on her crutches and fell into Dolph, grabbing his butt. Ziggler left the scene but told Michelle to let Maria know he's looking for her. Once Ziggler left, Layla showed Michelle that she recorded footage of Michelle in Ziggler's arms on her cell phone.

The main event is World champ CM Punk vs. Matt Hardy in a submission match.

As Smackdown continued, Todd Grisham mentioned the 2009 WWE Breaking Point theme song will be Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Still Unbroken".

After break, JTG was still in control until Chris Jericho was able to punch him. Jericho made the quick tag to Show. Show tried for a backdrop on JTG, who leapfrogged over him and tagged in Shad. Shad attacked Show, then knocked Jericho off the apron as well. Shad went for a move off the corner, but Show punched him in the air. Jericho and Show started to work on Shad to wear him down, keeping him from a tag. Shad tried to crawl over at one point for the tag, but was stopped. Big Show locked in a reverse chinlock to continue the punishment. Jericho came in yet again to try to attack, but this time Shad hit him with a powerslam.

Long said he has something good for him. Vince said he doesn't look "good", so Teddy said he'll have something "excellent" for him at the PPV. Vince then asked Teddy why his picture wasn't up on the wall. Teddy said he thought someone stole it and was asking around where it was.

John Morrison vs. Charlie Haas

Morrison had control early after a backbreaker and side Russian legsweep. Haas made his comeback and targeted Morrison's arm. Haas used various submission holds to stretch Morrison's arm back, and used an armbar as well. Morrison recovered though and hit a dropsault on Haas followed by a Shooting Star-Press for a two count. Haas threw Morrison shoulder first to the ringpost, and hit a DDT. Haas went to the corner for a move, but Morrison was able to kick him down from the top rope, and then set up for Starship Pain for the win.

After the match, Morrison got on the mic and called last week's match against Mysterio for the IC title, the greatest of his career. He gave props to Rey for a great match and had highlights shown. Morrison said he'll give Rey his re-match any day. Dolph Ziggler's music hit to interrupt the speech. Ziggler came out complaining that he won a match for the title fair and square, but Morrison got to face Rey before him, and won the title. Morrison suggested that Ziggler's already lost twice to Mysterio. Ziggler said third time's a charm. Ziggler demanded a title match which Morrison said they could do now, but Dolph said it will happen only on his terms. Morrison began name calling on Ziggler, including a crowd chant of "Mr. Ziggles" which enraged Dolph.
Winner: John Morrison wins via pinfall over Charlie Haas.

Backstage, Josh Matthews interviewed Matt Hardy about his upcoming match against CM Punk tonight. McIntyre tossed Truth around into parts of the set, before referees arrived to break things up.

After a commercial break, Punk was in control as he put his knee into the back of Hardy's neck. Punk started to punch away on Hardy's head, then hit a suplex followed by several ledrops. After a headscissors by Punk, Matt tried to make a comeback. Punk knocked him down with a kick, then went for his high knee on Matt. Matt came out of the corner to hit a knee buster on Punk, and locked in a figure four leglock. Punk appeared ready to tap out, but then reversed the move and eventually grabbed the ropes to break it up. Matt continued his momentum as he clotheslined Punk in the corner, hit a running bulldog and then the Side Effect. Punk regained composure to try for GTS, with Matt blocking it and putting Punk into a half Boston Crab. Punk managed to get to the ropes again. Once he was on his feet, Punk landed a roundhouse kick, then locked he Anaconda Vice grip submission on Matt to get him to tap out.

After the match, the lights went out and Undertaker's bell tolled. When the lights came back on, Punk no longer had his World Heavyweight title in hand. Instead, Undertaker held the belt up on the ramp, as Punk became enraged in the ring.
