Smackdown Preview 09.11.09
Tonight's Smackdown comes just two nights ahead of the eagerly anticipated Breaking Point Pay-Per-View. The event will be a new innovation for WWE as all of the main event matches feature Submission matches. Several of Smackdown's stars will be involved in matches on the card, including current World Champion, CM Punk. Punk will have his hands full though, as he'll have to defend the title against the returning Undertaker. Undertaker has sent Punk several messages via vicious chokeslams, with the most recent being last week on Smackdown. Punk was sent right through an announcer's table on last week's show, and The Deadman let everyone know he has Punk's number. At their Breaking Point title match, it will be Submission rules, meaning someone will have to tap out to their other's hold. Undertaker has his Triangle Deathlock, while Punk has the Anaconda. Which of the two superstars will have the momentum heading into this Sunday?
In another story from last week, the Friday night Delight, John Morrison, defeated Rey Mysterio in a classic match for the Intercontinental Title. The match which went for over 20 minutes, saw plenty of tremendous moves and near pinfalls. When all was said and done, Morrison was able to hold onto the corner to prevent Rey Mysterio's Hurricanrana attempt off the ropes. Morrison then quickly flipped off the ropes into his Starship Pain move to land on Mysterio for the winning pinfall. It was an emotional moment for Morrison as he captured the IC title for his third reign. Meanwhile, an interested Dolph Ziggler was watching the match backstage to see who his Breaking Point opponent would be. Ziggler has come close to winning the IC title at several PPV's, but now he'll have to contend with the new champ, Morrison. Both of these young superstars are hungry for the spotlight but only one can claim it at the PPV. How will Morrison and Ziggler prepare on Smackdown for their upcoming title match?
And finally, the Unified Tag Team Champions suffered a set of losses on this past week's episode of Monday Night Raw. In the opening match of the show, Chris Jericho went up against one half of his Breaking Point tag opponents, when he battled MVP. MVP managed to pull off the big win with a pinfall. Later in the show, Big Show and Mark Henry tangled in a "Bodyslam contest". Amazingly, the World's Strongest Man, Mark Henry, prevailed in the contest when he picked up and bodyslammed Show to the mat. The impressive set of victories gives the team of MVP and Mark Henry major momentum as they head into Sunday's event to challenge for the titles. Will Chris Jericho and the Big Show find a way to get back on track prior to Breaking Point?
