Raw Recap 02.08.10
Raw Recap from Louisiana:
Raw opened with highlights of Bret Hart's return to Raw last Monday. He called out Vince McMahon for a confrontation. McMahon called Bret "pathetic" in the ring saying he deserved to be screwed. He also said he would no longer be nominating Stu Hart for the WWE Hall of Fame, because he doesn't deserve it. Hart began to beat away on the WWE Chairman, and set up the Sharpshooter. Batista rushed to the ring and gave Hart a beatdown, then held back Bret's arms. McMahon proceeded to berate the Hitman, then spit in his face to end Raw.Michael Cole said the Cajundome is bracing for a big episode of Raw following last night's Saints Superbowl victory. Lawler reminded fans of tonight's big Triple Threat Elimination match for the Unified Tag titles: CM Punk & Luke Gallows vs. Miz/Big Show vs. DX. Also, footage will be shown of what went down between Batista and John Cena when Raw went off the air last week.
The #99 Aflac Ford Fusion car driven by guest host Carl Edwards was shown out near the WWE trucks doing donuts. Lawler said we're just six days away from the Dayton 500. Edwards appeared to pull into the arena, but as the driver got out through the car's window it was Hornswoggle. WWE Diva Kelly Kelly was in the ring to introduce guest host Carl Edwards who was accompanied to the ring by The Bella Twins. The Elimination Chamber theme song, "Rise Up" by Cypress Hill was played. Edwards got in the ring to pose from the corners and then did a backflip off the top rope.
Edwards mentioned the Dayton 500 coming up on next Sunday. He mentioned his competitors Kyle Busch and Joey Lagano who guest hosted Raw before. Edwards says he has something they don't, a friend in the WWE, John Cena. As Edwards was continuing to speak he was interrupted by WWE Champion Sheamus who came to the ring.
Sheamus demanded that Edwards as the guest host make him the last participant in the Chamber match, since he's WWE Champion. He told Edwards that he's a guest on his show and will do exactly what he tells him or he won't make Dayton next week. Surprisingly, the ECW Champion Christian arrived out to interrupt Sheamus. Christian shook hands with Edwards. Sheamus told Christian how dare he interrupt him. Christian mentioned how Edge didn't say a thing about challenging for the ECW title at Wrestlemania, but then he realized ECW is going off the air. Christian said in two weeks time everyone on ECW is a free agent and can sign with whichever show they choose. Christian said he thinks his peeps on Raw miss him, so tonight he's challenging the WWE Champ to a match. Edwards said it sounded good and called for a ref to start things right then.
Edge vs. Sheamus
Sheamus took control in the match early, and eventually knocked Christian out of the ring prior to a commercial break. Christian tried to gain momentum as he escaped a submission hold, but he and Sheamus bumped into one another off the ropes falling to the mat. At one point Sheamus tried to clothesline Christian over the top rope, but Christian ducked down so the WWE Champ fell outside. Christian followed with a jump out of the ring to knock Sheamus down. Sheamus regained control when he used the ringpost and crowd barrier to punish Christian, targeting his arms.In the closing moments, Christian managed to land on the side apron after Sheamus thought he disposed of him. The ECW champ went up to the corner and jumped at Sheamus who avoided him. Christian landed on his feet, but Sheamus managed to kick Christian then tossed him shoulder first to the ringpost. Sheamus followed with his big boot kick and then the Razor's Edge to toss Christian down to the mat for the winning pinfall.
Winner: Sheamus wins via pinfall over Christian.
Triple H was shown watching the match backstage in the locker room. Shawn Michaels came in and told HHH he knows he's been distracted by his quest to take on Undertaker. Michaels said within 24 hours he lost Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber qualifying. Michaels said he sees the silver lining here, that maybe DX will be going to its first Wrestlemania. HHH told him that sounds great, but he plans to win the Elimination Chamber and go to Wrestlemania 26 as the WWE Champion. Michaels said "so it's all about you now?" then turned and left the locker room.
Slam of the Week showed the Vince McMahon-Bret Hart ring confrontation again with Batista showing up to help Mr. McMahon berate and spit in Hitman's face.
Jerry Lawler talked about how Vince got closure last week by spitting in Bret's face, then banned him from the arena tonight. Michael Cole introduced footage from last week after Raw went off the air, when John Cena rushed in to chase Batista out of the ring. Cena raised Bret's arm up after helping the Hitman up. Moments later, the Animal rushed back into the ring to attack John Cena, throwing him shoulder first into the ring post, then dismantling him outside the ring. It ended with a Batista Bomb of Cena onto a part of the steel steps in the ring.
Ted Dibiase was shown in the locker room backstage when Cody Rhodes came in. He sarcastically said he should be congratulating him for qualifying for the Chamber. Rhodes then noted how he had to face Cena, while Dibiase beat Mark Henry, a guy Rhodes beat before. They began to argue over who's better when Orton showed up. He asked Dibiase if he thinks he's better than him. Dibiase said they'd know at the Elimination Chamber. Orton said he got word from the guest host that Dibiase gets to face Cena tonight. He told Rhodes he realizes his heart was in the right place trying to help him win at the Royal Rumble, then informed Rhodes he'll be facing him tonight.
CM Punk, Serena and Luke Gallows were shown walking backstage en route to the upcoming triple threat tag team title match.
Raw returned with Lawler talking about WWE.com's Divas Valentines photo gallery.
Luke Gallows & CM Punk vs. The Miz & Big Show vs. D-Generation X
Triple Threat Elimination match for Unified Tag Team titles
Smackdown GM Teddy Long was seated near ringside to watch the match. Punk, Gallows and Serena came out first with Punk doing an in-ring speech about how the people of New Orleans have turned to drugs and alcohol whether they face tragedy or triumph, like the Superbowl. Punk pointed out that a celebrity was in the house tonight, Jared from Subway. Punk said Jared reminds him of himself, by leading millions to diet and be healthy. Punk said he'd like Jared to be a spokesperson for the Straightedge Society. Jared indicated that he didn't want to be involved in it at all. Punk said he figured this would happen, and asked Serena and Luke to go grab Jared. Just then, DX's theme music hit to halt their plan. Miz got in Gallows and Punk's faces, and ended up getting punched down. Things erupted from there as DX punched Big Show off the apron, then went after Gallows/Punk to send them outside the ring too. They grabbed Miz and tossed him outside the ring onto everyone as Raw went to break.
For the first elimination, Michaels took control as he hit an Atomic drop on Punk, then slammed him down so he could hit the elbow drop off the corner. Michaels prepared for Sweet Chin Music, but got clotheslined down by Luke Gallows. Triple H rushed in to clothesline Gallows over the ropes. The ref moved HHH back out of the ring as Punk went for GTS on Michaels. Michaels slid off and hit Sweet Chin Music to pin Punk. Punk and Gallows were eliminated first leaving Miz/Big Show versus DX.
Late in the match, the Big Show tagged in and grabbed Michaels by his pants then tossed him over to the ropes. Michaels hung against them as Show glared at HHH on the apron. Show turned back to HBK only to receive Sweet Chin Music. This set up a tag from HHH, as Big Show fell to the mat but managed to get a tag to Miz. HHH had momentum as he hit a high knee on Miz from against the ropes. HHH prepared for his finisher, but Michaels slapped his back for a tag. The two partners got in each others' face in the corner over this. The Miz took advantage of this by shoving HBK into HHH in the corner, then rolling up HHH for the surprise winning pinfall.
Winners: The Miz and Big Show win via pinfall over D-Generation X to win the Unified Tag Team titles.
Miz and Show celebrated outside the ring as they hoisted the belts up. They left up the ramp, but Michaels and HHH were still in the ring. HHH confronted HBK over the outcome, with HBK tearing off his wristbands and tossing them to the mat, before leaving.

Shawn Michaels was walking backstage asking "where is he" to various superstars including Alicia Fox and Carlito. He found Smackdown GM Teddy Long and demanded that Long trade to bring him to Smackdown. Michaels said he can come to Smackdown in exchange for one of the Elimination Chamber guys so he can win the title and give Undertaker a rematch at Wrestlemania 26. Long told Michaels he can't do that because the Chamber match is already set. Michaels grabbed Long and shoved him up against the wall screaming at him. Triple H came out to intervene asking Michaels if he's throwing away DX and his career over this obsession with Undertaker. Michaels got in HHH's face and said "my career is over" then Superkicked Teddy Long down before walking off backstage.
WWE Rewind showed the Divas Championship tournament Semifinals match between Gail Kim and Alicia Fox two weeks ago. Kim managed to get a powerslam from the corner, followed by her finisher to earn a spot in the finals.

Gail Kim vs. Jillian Hall
Maryse was at ringside for the match, and continued saying she wants to restore class to the divas division following what happened on Smackdown between Mickie James and Michelle McCool. Jillian picked up Gail for a slam move early in the match, but Gail slid off and hit her finisher to win. Gail Kim won the match in quick fashion as the commentators were talking to Maryse.Maryse got up on the apron with a mic in hand to congratulate Gail. Raw returned with a backstage segment involving Carl Edwards, Jared from Subway and Santino Marella. Marella praised Subway's $5 Footlongs. Jared presented him with a free gift card from Subway. Santino turned to Edwards and told him Jack Swagger took him out of his Royal Rumble opportunity. Edwards asked Santino if he'd like a match against Swagger on Superstars, so Santino agreed. Kofi Kingston walked in and shook hands with Edwards then suggested that maybe all the Elimination Chamber participants should be in random singles matches on next week's Raw. Edwards asked if he should set those up now or wait until next week. Santino said allow next week's host to do it, someone with class and civility. Kofi, Edwards and Jared shook their heads as a video played to introduce next week's guest host, Jerry Springer. They went back to Edwards, Kofi, Santino and Jared for the close of their segment but the audio was out.
Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton
Orton and Rhodes began to talk things over near the corner. Orton slapped Rhodes in the face, then shoved him, so Rhodes slapped Orton's hand away. Orton kicked Rhodes, then received a retaliatory dropkick. Orton soon took control though and dropped Rhodes gut first against the top rope. Orton continued to beat on Rhodes around the ring, from corner to corner, before sitting Rhodes up on the turnbuckle. He climbed up after punching away on Rhodes to go for a Superplex. Rhodes punched back to knock Orton off, then went for a flying Cross body. Orton prepared for the RKO as he got on the mat ready to strike. Sheamus came down to the ring and slid into the ring, before sliding back out. Orton turned around and glared at him near the ropes, allowing Rhodes to grab Orton and hit Cross Rhodes to win it.After Rhodes had exited, Sheamus got into the ring and waited for Orton to turn around so he could do a running boot kick on him. Sheamus was setting up for another move, when Rhodes got back in the ring with a steel chair to chase him off.
Winner: Cody Rhodes wins via pinfall over Randy Orton.
They showed the same footage again of Batista's attack on John Cena after Raw went off the air last week. Cena was shown walking backstage on his way out for the main event match against Ted Dibiase.
Josh Matthews talked to guest host Carl Edwards backstage. Edwards said next week he wants to give the WWE Universe something special next week with the 3 singles matches involving the Elimination Chamber competitors. In match one it will be Sheamus versus Randy Orton, match two is Kofi Kingston versus Ted Dibiase, and the final match will be Triple H versus John Cena.
John Cena vs. Ted Dibiase
Cena rushed to the ring and immediately took out Dibiase with a clothesline. He tossed Dibiase to the outside of the ring, then tore off his hat and shirt to toss to the crowd. Cena went to the outside where he tossed Dibiase against the crowd barrier, then applied the STF submission. Dibiase tapped the outer floor but several refs came over to tell Cena "that's enough". Cena grabbed a nearby mic and got into the ring with it, looking particularly upset. The bell never sounded to start the match.Winner: No contest, match never officially started.
In the ring, Cena said he didn't come tonight for a match. Cena called out Batista to the ring for a fight, now. Cena said he's got news for Batista "I'm still here". Cena told The Animal to come out and finish the job, because he's going nowhere until Batista comes out. Cena waited in the ring looking up the ramp as the fans chanted for Cena. Raw went to a commercial break.
Cena was still waiting in the ring when the show returned, saying Batista is probably scared for his life, or maybe his attack last week was a "business decision". Cena said when he thinks of "business" one guy comes to mind: Vince McMahon. Cena said he called Vince "pathetic" a few weeks ago due to his treatment of Bret Hart and other stars on WWE. Cena said he thinks Vince is behind all this, so maybe he needs to talk to him.
Vince's theme music started up and out came the WWE Chairman with a mic in hand. Vince started towards the ring, then stopped up on the apron. He called out a group of security guards to escort him to the ring. Cena said next time Vince should come out with a tank, not 10 security guards. Cena suggested that either Vince comes in the ring to talk like a man, or Vince send all his guards in to try to take him down. Vince got in the ring to discuss things.
Vince said he's the supreme Alpha Male, and that God had him in mind, not Adam when he created man. Vince said last week he screwed Bret again. Vince said he had nothing to do with Batista attacking John Cena, but he payed Batista to help him restrain Bret Hart. Vince said Cena eliminated Batista from the Royal Rumble, or maybe he doesn't like Cena. Vince told Cena he doesn't like him much personally, but business wise he likes him. Cena got in his face angry saying it's always about the money for him. Cena said he does this because he loves it, like moments right now when he can stand in the middle of Louisiana after the Saints won the Superbowl. The fans went wild at that.
Cena rattled off several more reasons he does what he does for WWE including Wrestlemania. Cena said the fans watch WWE for the moment. Cena then said another guy who wants another moment, is Bret "The Hitman" Hart. Cena said last week Hart told him that he wants another match, at Wrestlemania 26, to fight Vince McMahon. Cena told Vince this is his chance to have a Wrestlemania moment. Cena stepped out of the ring, with Vince saying he's about the money and the moment, but Bret doesn't want any of him. Cena asked if Vince is going to hide or go for the moment. Vince said "yes, yes, yes" in response to everyone questioning if he'd go through with it.
Cena said everyone thanks Vince, but there's one more person left to thank him. Cena went backstage with Vince saying he knows Bret is watching from Canada, so he had footage shown of how Bret was embarassed last week on Raw. Vince said Bret Hart won't want any more of him after last week's incident. Just then, the fans went wild as Bret Hart slid into the ring and attacked McMahon. He knocked Vince down and began to punch away. Several security guards got into the ring to try to restrain Hart. Vince escaped to the outside holding his head with several security guards on the ramp. Vince yelled on the mic that Bret deserves to be screwed so now his answer to a Wrestlemania match is "No".
Bret became enraged and went up the ramp with a chair as Vince and his posse escaped backstage. The Hitman began to toss around parts of the lighting and electrical equipment near the ramp, causing several explosions as he destroyed things. From there, he went back down to ringside and tore apart the announcers table, before getting in the ring to close the show as his theme song played.
