WWE NXT Results 03/08/11 - Season 5 Premiere

WWE NXT Results from Houston, TX:

Season 5 of NXT is called "NXT: Redemption." This latest season features previous losing rookies from past NXT seasons competing for a spot on NXT Season 6. Maryse and Matt Striker are the show hosts. Todd Grisham and William Regal are the commentary team.

The rookie/pro combos are: Darren Young w/Chavo Guerrero, Lucky Cannon w/Tyson Kidd, Conor O'Brian w/Vladimir Kozlov, Byron Saxton w/Yoshi Tatsu, Jacob Novak w/JTG and Titus O'Neil w/Hornswoggle.

Darren Young vs. Jacob Novak

Early on, Novak and Young fell out of the ring as they fought. Back in the ring, Young takes control, leveling Novak with a clothesline. Young continues to maintain his pace using a shoulder block and a powerslam for the nearfall.

Later in the match, Young is able to use an elbow as Novak tries to run at him in the corner. Later still, Novak tried for a submission hold, with Young powering to his feet and fighting out. He got Young into the corner where he landed several strikes, before Novak responded with a clothesline.

The closing moments saw Novak bounce against the ropes, but Young is able to flip him over him. From there, Young hit the flip full nelson STO finisher and got the pinfall.

Winner: Darren Young wins via pinfall over Jacob Novak.

Backstage, Yoshi Tatsu wanted to tell something important to Maryse. Byron Saxton interrupted him before he could.

Raw Rebound: They showed highlight clips for The Rock vs Cena verbal war that's been happening on Raw. Last night's Raw ended with The Miz attacking Cena in the ring to finish off a Wrestlemania 27 promo.

They had a video promo package on "Redemption" rookie Conor O'Brian. He talked about his upbringing and his father leaving when he was just 2-years-old. O'Brian said he used to sleep in a car and just ate beans all the team. He says this NXT season will be his redemption.

They had a boot camp obstacle course worth 3 redemption points. Lucky Cannon chose not to participate and tried to woo Maryse instead. Darren Young was the last to go in the competition and ended up winning by 1 second.

Titus O'Neil vs. Lucky Cannon

Early on, Titus got Lucky in the corner, but the ref warned Titus to back off. As the ref had his back turned, Cannon got in a cheap shot. From there, Lucky kicked Titus out of the ring. Lucky remained in control back in the ring using knees to the back repeatedly, as well as a submission driving his knee into Titus' back.

Late in the match, Titus is able to pick up Lucky and hit a back suplex, followed by a running shoulder block later. Hornswoggle tried to pull Tyson Kidd off the apron later in the match. Kidd began to chase Horney around the ring. Cannon went to the ropes for a move and jumped but Titus catches him from the air. He picks up Lucky and hits a sit-down spinebuster on him for the pinfall.

Post-match, O'Neil celebrates the victory. Tyson Kidd shoves Horney down and tries to put a Sharpshooter on him. Titus comes to his rescue, delivering a huge boot to Tyson's chest. The show ends with Hornswoggle celebrating on Titus' shoulders as Kidd and Cannon are yelling at them from up the apron.

Winner: Titus O'Neil wins via pinfall over Lucky Cannon.
