Smackdown Results 04/29/11


Smackdown Results from Greensboro, NC:

Smackdown opened with highlights of the 2011 WWE Draft from Raw. It started with Cena going to Smackdown. Randy Orton, Sin Cara and Mark Henry also went to Smackdown. Alberto Del Rio, Rey Mysterio went to Raw. In the final match of the night, a six man tag match, Team Raw, captained by The Miz, brought Cena back to Raw. Cena closed out the show knocking everyone in sight down, including The Miz, Punk and Alex Riley.

The new Smackdown intro video with Green Day's theme song featured highlights with many of the new stars, including Sheamus, Ted Dibiase, Daniel Bryan and Mark VHenry.

The Viper, Randy Orton, came out wearing a blue Smackdown t-shirt to start off the show. He said for the first time in five years because of the WWE draft he's back on the roster. Orton said he's got some unfinished business to attend to at Sunday's Extreme Rules PPV. As Orton kept speaking, he was interrupted by Drew McIntyre.

Drew said he's moved over to Raw, and will be going onwards and upwards. Drew said the WWE Universe needs to wait a bit longer for McIntyre vs Orton. Drew said he knows what everyone wants to see him do, but he's just out to say hello, and goodbye. Drew kicked Orton and tried for the FutureShock, but Orton got out of it, then dropped him with the RKO.

Orton got back on the mic to finish what he was saying, but then Alex Riley came out with a mic to confront Orton. He started to walk towards Orton with the mic, but got the RKO also.

The third time, Orton prepared to finish talking, but Alberto Del Rio arrived out with Brodus Clay and Ricardo Rodriguez. Del Rio said he feels bad for the people, because they're losing him to Smackdown, and they'll lose the World Championship because he'll bring it to Raw.

Del Rio got in the ring with Brodus and Ricardo. Orton prepared to take them on, but suddenly Christian rushed to the ring to back him up. Next, Teddy Long arrived out with a mic. He said it's still his rules on SmackDown, so they'll do it his way. Main event will be a tag match involving Christian and Orton versus Del Rio and Brodus Clay. The segment closed with Del Rio escaping from the ring, and Christian dropkicking Brodus off the apron.



Kofi Kingston vs. Sheamus

Kofi Kingston was on his way to the ring when Sheamus rushed him and knocked him down on the ramp. Sheamus kept beating up Kofi near the crowd barrier, then tossed him into the steel steps. In the ring, Sheamus hit the Brogue Kick to Kofi's head to leave him comatose on the mat. The Celtic Warrior picked up his US championship belt to pose with it. The refs came in to check on Kofi as Sheamus left up the ramp. The match never got underway.

Winner: No contest, match never officially started.




They showed highlights from Raw when Cole faced Jim Ross one-on-one. Cole used JR's own belt to whip him, until Lawler finally got into the ring to knock Swagger over the ropes. Lawler started to whip Cole with the belt, driving him and Swagger off. These two teams will face in a "Country Whipping match" at Extreme Rules on Sunday.

Cole was in the ring with visible bruises around his left eye and lips. Cole asked for everyone's attention, saying Mr. Wrestlemania is talking. Cole started mocking JR with pig calls to irritate the crowd. He introduced his personal trainer and tag partner for this weekend, Jack Swagger. Swagger arrived out in a red Raw shirt, due to being drafted.

Sin Cara vs. Jack Swagger

Sin Cara is one of the newest acquisitions for Smackdown. He gained momentum for a bit early on, until Swagger leveled his smaller opponent. At one point, Swagger did pushups on Sin Cara to insult him. Swagger went for his big splash from the corner, but Sin Cara got both knees up.

Later still, Sin Cara went for a springboard move off the top rope. Swagger avoided it, then booted Sin Cara down. Moments later, Swagger was down near the bottom rope to catch his breath when the ref was checking on Sin Cara. Cole handed Swagger a foreign object to try to use. However, Sin Cara rushed Swagger for the quick surprise pinfall to win it.

Post-match, Swagger tried to attack Sin Cara, but failed. Sin Cara knocked him out of the ring then jumped onto him from off the top rope. Michael Cole was screaming at Swagger that he needs to get his head in the game for this Sunday's big match.

Winner: Sin Cara wins via pinfall over Jack Swagger.

Big Show and Kane were shown walking backstage on their way out for a tag team title defense against Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match

Cole and the others discussed how The Corre have to get on the same page to win back the tag titles. They showed last week's backstage altercation after they lost the titles.

Midway through this one, Kane tagged in after Big Show had taken some punishment on the mat. Kane managed to hit a huge clothesline on the corner, followed by a side slam for a near fall. Slater kicked out, so Kane went to the corner and did his huge flying clothesline. Kane set up for the Chokeslam and grabbed Slater. Gabriel jumped off the corner, but Kane grabbed him. They kicked Kane to break it, but Show was back in the ring. He grabbed Gabriel and chokeslammed him, then Kane chokeslammed Slater to take the pinfall victory.

Winners: Big Show and Kane win via pinfall over Justin Gabriel & Heath Slater to retain the WWE Tag Team Championships.

Backstage, Ranjin Singh was talking to Great Khali about now being on SmackDown. Khali was wearing the blue t-shirt. Rey Mysterio came in wearing his red Raw shirt. Khali started speaking in his foreign language, so Singh translated that Khali wished him good luck on Raw. Rey said gracias then walked off. A new wrestler, Jinder Mahal, walked up to them in a suit. Khali shook his hand, and they started having a conversation in their foreign tongue.




They showed Cody Rhodes attacking Rey on Smackdown last Friday, then putting a paper bag over his head. Rhodes said Mysterio will need surgery after their Falls Count Anywhere match on Sunday.

Rey talked about how tough it's going to be to leave the SmackDown fans. He said he's enjoyed every last minute of being on the show, and reminded them they all helped him win the World Championship in the past year. He said they'll always be a part of the 6-1-9!

They showed how Henry turned against his tag partners in the Raw main event tag match. He leveled Cena, then dropped Christian on the steel steps.

Rey was able to use a bit of an attack with his legs before Henry flattened him on the mat. He pulled Rey over near the ropes, then stood on him.

After a commercial break, Rey managed to make a comeback and hit 619 on Mark Henry. Rey was ready to get to the top rope for a springboard finishing move, but suddenly Cody Rhodes was at ringside and yanked him down. Rhodes kept attacking Mysterio, tossing him into the steel steps, and into the crowd. He kept beating up Mysterio in the crowd, before finally tossing him back into the ring for Henry. Henry did World's Strongest Slam to leave Mysterio on the mat.

Henry walked past Rhodes on the ramp chuckling. Rhodes got into the ring with his paper bag mask to put over Mysterio's head. Rey fell to the mat with the bag on his head, and then Rhodes exited the ring.

Winner: Rey Mysterio wins due to DQ when Cody Rhodes interfered.




They showed highlights of Michelle McCool beating up Layla during a therapy session on last week's Smackdown, then showed how they got into it after Layla lost to Eve on Raw. The Raw segment ended with Layla throwing McCool across the commentators table.

McCool took control of things and started beating Layla up unmercifully outside the ring, whipping her hard into the barrier. Layla made a comeback with a kick move, but McCool soon came back to kick Layla down. It turned into a catfight brawl outside the ring, so the ref called for the bell.

Two referees stepped in to break Lay-Cool apart, but they were able to break away briefly to brawl a bit more. Layla grabbed a mic and said she's sick of all this. She said let's have a real match at Extreme Rules, no countouts, no DQ's. Layla said she'll finally shut her up. McCool rushed into the ring with a mic and said she accepts, but under one condition, "Loser leaves WWE." Layla accepted the offer.

Winner: No contest due to ref's decision.




They showed video highlights and interviews about WWE's overseas tour. John Cena, Kofi Kingston, Christian and Beth Phoenix were among those who spoke about the experiences.

Rev Theory's "Justice" is the official Extreme Rules 2011 theme song.

Matt Striker interviewed Christian in the locker room backstage about Sunday's championship ladder match against Alberto Del Rio. Christian brought up "destiny" and how Del Rio injured him months ago, putting him on the sidelines. Christian said back then he thought "what if this is the end of my career?" He said fast forward to current times, and Edge was forced to retire. Christian said now he's wondering if he really has what it takes and is it time for him to really fulfil his potential? Christian said this Sunday at Extreme Rules his destiny is to climb the ladder, touch the championship and earn the right to keep it.

Josh Matthews, Booker T and Michael Cole ran down the card for Sunday's Extreme Rules Pay-Per-View.

Ricardo Rodriguez was in the ring with Brodus Clay to formally introduce Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio drove out in a fancy silver Ferari convertible worth $250,000.

Christian took it to Brodus Clay a bit, before getting flattened. Del Rio tagged in to start beating up his opponent for Sunday's title match. Christian eventually broke away, tagging in Orton. Orton got in several moves on Del Rio including a few big knee drops.

Late in the match, Orton gained major momentum, including a DDT of Del Rio from the middle rope. He dropped to the mat pounding it in anticipation of his finisher. Orton went for RKO on Del Rio, but Alberto shoved him to the ropes. Clay was ringside and tripped Orton. Del Rio went over and tagged Clay in. Clay got in to rush at Orton who was ready to hit the quick RKO for the win.

Winners: Randy Orton & Christian win via pinfall over Alberto Del Rio & Brodus Clay.
