Smackdown Recap 3.2.07
Smackdown kicked off with the champ Batista entering the arena to the ovation of the fans. In ring Batista spoke to the fans about how he is there to compete. Batista said it will be a privilege to share the ring with the Deadman at Wrestlemania. Batista said he knows it will be a war, and Batista vs Undertaker is gonna get ugly. Batista said he has nothing but respect for Taker, but he won't be intimidated. Just then the lights dimmed and Undertaker's bell tolled. Undertaker's voice spoke saying its time to take Batista on a journey to the old school. Taker said without death there cannot be life, and all things must die. A video was shown of Undertaker in a graveyard burying a grave. Taker said at Wrestlemania Batista's reign as champion will rest in peace. In ring, Batista seemed confused/irritated as Smackdown went to commercial.
Joey Mercury vs. Matt Hardy - Money in the Bank Qualifying Match King Booker/QueenSharmelle joined JBL and Michael Cole at ringisde for the match. Early on Hardy held Mercury in side headlocks until Mercury able to get Matt into the corner. Hardy able to slam Mercury down on his knees, and also score a face first suplex on him into the mat. Hardy went for the moonsault, as Mercury slid outta the way. Hardy and Mercury tossed each other into the corners. Mercury on the top ropes, Matt Hardy went to slam him down, but Mercury escaped, then tossed Matt Hardy into the corner ring post, injuring Matt's shoulder. Matt landed outside the ring holding his shoulder as Smackdown hit commercial break.
Back from commercial, the 2 men grappled until Mercury was able to knock Hardy down and attempt several pins. Mercury began to yank down on Matt's shoulder and use the ropes to pull Matt's shoulder against. Knocking Matt outta the ring, Mercury continued working on the injured shoulder, pulling Hardy by the arm into the steel ring post. Mercury then tossed Hardy back into the ring and tried to pin. Mercury continuing to try to put Hardy's left arm invarious holds down on the mat. Matt able to get to his feet. Mercury tried to pull Hardys arm down on the ropes, but Matt punched out of it. Mercury got to the top ropes but Matt Hardy able to slam Mercury down off them. Hardy with a clothesline and then a running bulldog on Mercury. A failed pinfall followed by Matt. Mercury went for a clothesline but Hardy ducked and did the Twist of Fate. Another failed pinfall. Matt then able to pull off Mercury's face mask. As Mercury eluded Hardy's attempt to toss him into the corner face first, Mercury then climbed the corner ropes. Matt Hardy able to punch Mercury face first, then slam him face first into the mat off the ropes. Hardy scores the victory and will head to the Money in the Bank match at Wrestlemania!
Backstage Kristal interviewed a bragging Montell Vontavius Porter about his upcoming Triple Threat match tonight vs Finlay and Benoit. The winner of the match would also be a part of the Money in the Bank Ladder match at Wrestlemania.
Six Man Cruiserweight Tag Team Match - Scotty 2 Hotty,Shannon Moore, Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Gregory Helms, Daivari & Chavo Guerrero - Chavo the current cruiserweight headed the tag team of Davari and Helms vs 3 other challengers. Moore started it off vs. Helms. Helms backed Moore into the corner, and went for the punch but missed and almost hit Chavo instead. Helms then took his fury out on Moore, but Moore was able to turn things around with a rapid pace of moves, throwing Helms to the corner and doing flying leg scissors off the tops ropes. As Chavo got in, Moore tagged in Scotty 2 Hotty who began chopping away at Chavo. Chavo able to toss Hotty off the ropes, but Hotty able to backslam Chavo. Helsm and Davaria distracted Hotty by entering the ring, allowing Chavo to blindside Scotty and gain control of the match. Scotty able to escape Chavo and get onto side apron, but Helms clotheslined Scotty down. Back in ring, Davairi tagged in and put Scotty in a sleeper hold on the mat. Scotty able to get to his feet and begin to jab his elbow into Davairi. Scotty ran against the ropes, but Chavo cheapshotted him in the back. Daivari tagged in Helms who began to suplex and slam Scotty. Chavo tagged back in and put Scotty in an armlock. Chavo ran over to the corner and knocked Moore off the apron then went to clothesline Scotty. Scotty ducked and then turned to kick Chavo in the face. Chavo able to crawl over and tag in Daivari just as Scotty able to get a tag to Jimmy Wang Yang. Eventually all men got into it in the ring, battling each other. Chavo and Scotty tossed out of the ring. Shannon Moore flew over the tope ropes onto them. Yang and Daivairi left in the ring. Wang Yang able to score the moonsault off the ropes and pin for Daivari for the victory.
Recap shown of last week's assault on Rey Mysterio by Umaga and Vince. Rey's rehabilatation of his injured knee was set back by Umaga slamming him into the mat in front of Vince, in preparation for the Battle of the Billionaire's match. JBL heard saying how this "is a message to Donald Trump".
Vince came down to the ring and discussed how he now stands in the same ring where last week Rey Mysterio was annihilated by Umaga. Vince continued to hype the match he has coming up vs Trump at Wrestlemania, saying Trump will be a baldy and this is a match about ego. Vince said he has a big ego but not as big as Trump's. Vince said after he wins the match he might just be "Time's Man of the Year". Vince showed a replay of Trump's selection Bobby Lashley coming after Umaga on this past week's Raw, and then a replay of Lashley's title match vs Hardcore Holly in the steel cage on ECW. Lashley jumped against the cage wall after his victory landing on Umaga who was outside the ring. Both men lay on the ground wth Umaga under the cage wall. McMahon said next week the committee will select a special guest referee. Just then Bobby Lashley came down to the ring to stare down Vince. Vince chastised Lashley for interrupting him. Vince told Lashley he would double whatever Trump's given him. Lashley told Vince it was going to be an honor to watch Vince get his head shaved at Wrestlemania. Vince then yelled at Lashley saying nobody says "No" to Vince. Vince slapped Lashley in the face. Lashley turned with an enraged look in his eyes and stared at Vince who then quickly ran out of the ring and up to the ramp.
Backstage Vince was still furious and yelling at a WWE staff member that nobody says "No" to him. Just then Mr Kennedy entered asking Vince to give him a match with Lashley tonight. Vince gave him the match and told Mr. Kennedy that the match would be for the ECW title, with no holds barred. Vince added that the stipulation will only apply to Mr. Kennedy though and that he can use whatever he wants to against Lashley, but that Lashley cannot do the same.
Ashley vs. Jillian - The 2 fiesty Smackdown divas faced off in ring, as the latest WWE Playboy cover girl competed with aspiring "American Idol singer" Jillian. Jillian came into the ring with a headset mic on and began to serenade the crowd with her tone-deaf singing. As the crowd booed, Ashley knocked Jillain down. The 2 girls began to battle it out back and forth. At one point in the match Jillian tried to use the corner ropes to pin Ashley. The ref noticed and stopped teh count. Ashley able to gain control and land a flying elbow drop off the top ropes for the pinfall victory.
MVP vs. Finlay vs. Benoit - Triple Threat Qualifying Match for Money in the Bank - Little Bastard appeared from under the ring and ran up onto the commentator's table spilling beer all over Michael Cole and jumping onto JBL. Finlay kicked Little Bastard under the ring and then went up to Michael Cole telling him the leprechaun's name is "Hornswaggle" and he's not going to tell them again. Early on Finlay taking it to Chris Benoit, as MVP watched from the corner. MVP broke up Finlay's pin attempt on Benoit, then threw Finlay out of the ring. MVP and Finlay battling outside the ring, as Benoit ran against the ropes and then over the ropes. Finlay moved, as Benoit landed on MVP. The two wrestlers lay in a heap outside the ring. Finlay got up and took advanatage, kicking Benoit in the stomach as RAW hit commercial break. Back to action, MVP was still out of the ring as Benoit battled Finlay. Benoit ran off the ropes, but MVP able to get up and trip Benoit. MVP with a pinfall, but only a 2 count. MVP with a 2nd pin attempt, Finlay pulled him off. As MVP stood up and looked at Finlay the 2 decided to work together against Benoit. Both men began with a barrage of slams and moves on Benoit. At one point Finlay tricked MVP and then clotheslined him down. Benoit able to re-gain the control of the match and eventually slap a sharpshooter on MVP. MVP about to tap out but Finlay with the save, although Benoit then slapped the cross-face crippler on Finlay. Benoit had Finlay read to tap until MVP dropkicked Benoit. Benoit battled Finlay outside the ring. Benoit with a german suplex, knocked Finlay out leaving him laying outside the ring. In ring, Benoit battled MVP and landed 3 German suplexes on him. Benoit then climbed the corner ropes with MVP laying in the ring. Benoit went for a flying headbutt but MVP rolled out of the way. As the 2 men got back to their feet, Little Bastard snuck out from under the ring and tried to get in with a shalalee. The ref caught him, turning his attention away from Benoit and MVP as FInlay got into the ring with his shalalee and hit both men. Finlay then rolled Benoit onto his back for the pinfall, as the ref counted the 3 count. Finlay now heads to Wrestlemania for the Money in the Bank match.
Main Event: Mr. Kennedy vs. Bobby Lashley - ECW title match (No Holds Barred for Mr. Kennedy) - As Mr. Kennedy entered the ring he began taking the turnbuckle covers off two of the corners. The ref announced that if Bobby Lashley was counted out or disqualified he would lose the title. Kennedy began speaking from the mic which dropped down from above the ring, but Lashley's music came on interrupting Kennedy. Lashley went to slam Kennedy's head into the exposed turnbuckle. The ref warned him not to, so Lashley slammed Kennedy down face first. Lashley taking it to Kennedy, until Kennedy hit him with a low blow. Kennedy then slammed Lashley into the exposed turnbuckle and went for a quick cover. Lashley kicked out before 3. Kennedy tossed Lashley out of the ring then waited for Lashley to climb back onto the apron. Kenney suplexed Lashley onto the ropes causing Lashley to fall out of the ring. Mr. Kenney continued to knock Lashley around outside the ring, realizing if Lashley was counted out he loses the title. Lashley able to climb back in before 9. Kennedy took the tag rope from the corner and began choking Lashley with it. With Lashley down, he was able to get onto his feet with Kennedy on his back. Lashley backed Kennedy into the corner then elbowed him several times. Kennedy brought a steel chair into the ring and smashed it down on Lashley's skull. Kennedy with a near 3 count, but Lashley kicked out. Kenned continued to smash the steel chair down on Lashley several times, until Lashley able to take the chair from Kennedy. Lashley almost hit Kennedy with the chair but the ref stopped him. Lashley with several clotheslines on Kennedy. Kennedy hoisted above Lashley's shoulders, Lashley went to slam down Kennedy, but Kennedy escaped. Kennedy went to swipe Lashley's leg from behind but Lashley jumped. Lashley then able to pick up Kennedy and slam him down to score a 3 count victory. Lashley retains the ECW title!
