Smackdown Recap 3.9.07
Smackdown kicked off with a review of the Undertaker & Batista feud. Highlights were shown from RAW, Smackdown and No Way Out.
Matt Hardy vs. King Booker - Queen Sharmell joined the commentators at ringside. Prior to the match, it was announced that there will be a triple threat match on RAW between Carlito, Randy Orton and Ric Flair to determine the final spot for Wrestlemania's "Money in the Bank" ladder match. King Booker started off hammering away on Matt Hardy. Matt Hardy able to turn the tables and take down Booker to the mat, putting him in a headlock. Booker back to his feet kneed Hardy several times then went for a kick and missed. Hardy went to do a twist of fate but instead hammered Booker on the back, then kncoked Booker out of the ring. Matt Hardy flew over the top ropes, landing on Booker as Smackdown went to commercial.
Back from break, Hardy had control over Booker after landing a flying elbow off the top ropes on a fallen Booker. Booker able to catch Matt coming off the ropes and slam him down onto the ropes, then slam Matt down in the ring. Booker with a quick cover, but only a 2 count. Booker punching and chopping away at Hardy in the corner, then kicking him down. Booker kicking Matt repeatedly. Booker with an attempted suplex off the stop ropes but Hardy fought his way out of it then pushed Booker down to the mat. Hardy with an attempted backflip Moonsault, but missed Booker as he rolled away. Hardy and Booker lay knocked out in the ring. Booker got to his feet first and did a neck breaker then quick pin. Hardy kicked out at 2. Booker with an armlock on Hardy, Matt got back to his feet and started to chop away. Hardy off the ropes got caught with a spinning kick by Booker, knocking Matt down. Booker tried for a suplex twice but Hardy reversed and suplexed Booker down. Hardy ducked a scissor kick from Booker, then landed a sidewalk slam. An attempted pin with Booker kicking out at 2. Hardy with a leg drop onto Booker off the top ropes. Another pin attempt failed. Matt Hardy back up but Queen Sharmell took off fromthe announcers table and climbed onto the apron. Sharmell distracting the ref and Matt turned his attention to her. Booker went to kick Matt but Matt ducked and tried for a twist of fate. Booker able to push Matt away and then hit him from behind, causing Matt to land face first against the ropes. Queen Sharmell then cracked Matt over the head with her shoe. Booker able to then landed a scissor kick for the pinfall victory.
Kristal backstage with Batista for an interview, but first they showed a highlight reel of the Undertaker's 14 Wrestlemania wins. Batista commented on how impressive the streak is, but said he will be the man to end it at Wrestlemania. Batista said tonight against Undertaker's sick demented brother, Kane, he will show the Undertaker what will happen to him at Wrestlemania.
A recap was shown of this past week's RAW where Vince learned who the special guest referee would be for Wrestlemania. Eric Bischoff, Mick Foley and Shane McMahon all came to the ring, but none were the special referee. Shane revealed to Vince who the ref would be, as Stone Cold burst out from backstage and strutted down to the ring. Austin then posed for the fans on the ring corners and drank several beers after bashing them together above his head. Austin also sprayed Vince in the process.
Teddy Long backstage looking at his laptop with a grin on his face. MVP came back to talk to Teddy and told him to stop checkin out that chickenhead "Kristal" on the WWE Divas section. MVP told Teddy that Chris Benoit lost the triple threat match last week, so MVP didn't win/lose. MVP demanded a title shot at Wrestlemania vs Chris Benoit. Teddy told MVP he will consider that possibility.
Kane walking backstage, as Kristal caught up with him for an interview. Kristal asked Kane how he felt about Batista's comments that he was "sick and demented". Kane began laughing demonically and told Kirstal that "Batista has no idea just how sick and twisted he is".
Kane vs. Batista - The WWE Champ squared off in a tune up match for Wrestlemania, as he faced the Undertaker's brother, Kane. Batista able to back Kane into a corner, but the ref made Batista break the hold. The 2 men began pushing each other. Batista able to clothesline Kane down and then hammer away at him in the corner of the ring. After a 1 count pinfall, Batista was cornered by Kane who began to punch at him. As he got out of the corner, Batista threw Kane to the ropes then brought Kane down to the mat for a pin. After a failed pinfall, Batista able to clothesline Kane over the top ropes, but Kane landed on his two feet and stared at Batista in the ring as Smackdown hit commercial break.
Back from break, Batista hammering away and punching Kane in the corner ropes. Kane able to turn the tables and throw Batista into the corner to elbow him. Kane backed away for a moment then went to approach, but Batista clotheslined Kane down. Batista able to knock Kane out of the ring, but Kane grabbed Batista's foot and pulled him out with him. Batista clotheslined Kane outside the ring then picked him up, but Kane whipped Batista into the steel steps. Back in the ring, Kane got a 2 count as Batista kicked out. Kane threw Batista against the ropes then kicked him down. Another 2 count. Kane then drug Batista to the corner ring post. Kane outside the ring as he pulled Batista's back against the steel ring post. Kane back in the ring cornered Batista. Batista tried to punch his way out, then able to slam Kane face first into the turnbuckle.
Kane began to focus on Batista's injured back, keeping Batista down. Batista able to regain momentum, until Kane kicked Batista in the head with his boot. Kane tried to jump off the top rope but Batista countered with his boot. Batista crawled over to pin Kane, but Kane sat up. Kane went to chokeslam Batista, but Batista able to fight his way out. Batista with a sidwalk slam,and another failed pinfall. Kane jumped off the top rope and clotheslined Batista, followed by yet another failed pin. Kane then signaled for a chokeslam, but Batista able to get a spinebuster on Kane. Kane rammed Batista into the corner, further injuring Batista's back. Kane able to chokelsam Batista down and go for the pin. Another failed pin and Kane was visibly frustrated, tossing off his elbow pads. Kane climbed corner ropes but Batista followed and able to Batista Bomb Kane off the top of the corner ropes. Batista able to score the 3 count victory. Afterwards, Batista rolling around on his back, clearly in agony. Kane rolled out of the ring, upset at his loss.
Highlight pieces shown from ECW where Vince demanded a public apology from Lashley. Lashley came into the ring and offered his hand. Vince shook Lashley's hand
The debut of MizTV - a new Smackdown segment, MizTV debuted, with first guest, WWE DIVA & Playboy covergirl, Ashley. Miz offered Ashley a seat down on the mat with him, but Ashley took a chair seat instead. Miz began asking Ashley questions about her Playboy shoot. Just then the interview was interrupted by Melina, who came down to the ring with her championship belt. Melina began running her mouth about how people had to settle for seeing Ashley in Playboy. Ashley took the mic and told Melina she thinks its about time somebody made her shutup, and that Ashley would do that by beating Melina in a match at Wrestlemania. Melina then stood up and walked over to Ashley and grabbed Ashley. Melina threw Ashley across the ring, and the 2 girls began to fight back and forth. Eventually Ashley tossed Melina across the ring and Melina rolled out holding her chin, as Ashley stared out at her.
Backstage Kristal attempted to interview Kane about his loss to Batista tonight. The Great Khali came out of nowhere and began to attack Kane. Khali threw Kane into some metal bars and caging several times. When Kane stood back up, Khali headbutted Kane 4 or 5 times causing Kane's head to begin bleeding. Khali continued to attack Kane and left him laying on the pavement as Khali walked off.
Mr. Kennedy came to the ring and took the mic which came down from above him, as the spotlight shown on him. Mr. Kennedy told the crowd after Wrestlemania his name will be "Mr. Money in the Bank.....Bank". Mr. Kennedy's opponent,CM Punk, who will also enter the Money in the Bank match, came to the ring. Kennedy able to slap CM Punk in the corner of the ring. Then Kennedy ran out of the ring and Punk followed. CM got clotheslined outside the ring by Kennedy who then tossed him back in for an attempted pinfall. Kennedy able to contain CM in the corner of the ring and went to run at him with a kick, but CM Punk able to kick Kennedy in the face. CM Punk tossed Kennedy into the corner, Punk then ran up at Kennedy who tossed him over the ropes. Back in the ring Kennedy continued to hammer away at his opponent. CM Punk able to get to his feet and gain momentum, catapaulting himself off the ropes onto Mr. Kennedy. Punk with a running Bulldog on Mr. Kennedy, and went for a pin, which resulted in a 2 count. Punk tossed Kennedy into the corner and ran at him. Kenned tried to throw him over the ropes again, but Punk landed on the side apron. Punk then grabbed Kennedy's head and slammed him down. Punk tried to jump over the ropes to perform a move, but Kennedy able to trip him up, causing Punk to land on the corner ropes on his groin. Kennedy then got this feet and suplexed Punk face first from the ropes. Kennedy dragged Punk into the ring and picked up the 3 count victory.
Backstage Kristal spoke to Finlay about his matchup with Undertaker tonight. Finlay said he's not afraid of death or the Undertaker. Finlay said that he's Irish and been to Hell before so he's not worried about the Undertaker taking him there.
Smackdown Main Event - Finlay vs The Undertaker - The match started with Undertaker intensely staring down Finlay. Finlay began trying to punch Undertaker early and hammered him into the corner ropes until Undertaker tossed Finlay into the corner and began to punch away at him. Taker began to go to work on the injured shoulder of Finlay as he tossed him into the corner and repeatedly punched at Finlay. Taker grabbed Finlay's arm and pulled on it, until Finlay raked Taker in the eye and then punched him out of the ring. Finlay followed and punced Undertaker, then threw Taker's head into the apron. Finlay slammed Taker's head onto the announce table. Taker able to give Finlay a boot the face then threw Finlay into the bell table near the announcer's. Just then, Little Bastard aka Hornswaggle appeared from udner the ring and crept up behind the ref. Little Bastard ran up to the Undertaker then became horrified and turned around to go back under the ring. The ref turned his attention to the little man, as Finlay smacked Undertaker with a chair. Taker fell to the ground as Finlay threw the chair on him.
Back in the ring Finlay had control over Taker as he kicked and jabbed him. Finlay knocked Taker to the mat and tried for a cover but only got a 1 count. Undertaker able to regain control as he went out fo the ring and hammered away at a fallen Finlay on the side apron. Undertaker jumped off the ropes and landed a leg drop on Finlay who lay over the side apron. Undertaker able to beat up Finlay some more outside of the ring with a boot to the jaw knocking him down. Finlay able to slam Taker into the audience barrier outside the ring and started to go at Undertaker. Undertaker tried to punch Finlay but then Finlay kicked Taker in the leg. Finlay rammed Taker's ribs into the side apron, then got back in the ring and dropkicked Taker in the face. Finlay went to jump at Taker outside the ring, but Taker caught Finlay in a bear hold and rammed Finlay's back into the steel post. Back in the ring Finlay punched away at Undertaker and then tried to suplex the deadman. Undertaker able to counter twice, and then able to reverse it and suplex Finlay. Taker tossed Finlay into the corner of the ring then clotheslined him there twice. Taker able to drop Finlay face first onto the ropes. Taker with a boot to Finlay's face and then a leg drop. Taker tried for a pin but received a 2 count. Hornswaggle crawled into the ring with the shalalee and hit it across Taker's leg but it didnt phase the Deadman. Taker turned around and kicked Little Bastard in the face. The ref was then knocked out inadvertantly, Finlay grabbed the Shalalee and was able to strike Taker twice, the second time on his head. Finlay covered Taker as the ref barely came to. The ref counted a near 3 but Taker raised his arm up. Finlay then stood up and picked up Little Bastard to slam him onto Taker. Taker stood up though and gave Finlay another boot to the face, causing Little Bastard to fall on Finlay and roll over. Taker then was able to pick up Finlay for the Tomstone piledriver and 3 count pinfall victory.
As the Undertaker stood victorious in the ring, Batista's music came on over the speakers and Batista appeared at the top of the ramp. Batista gave the two thumbs up with his arms extended, then turned both thumbs down, staring at the Undertaker. Undertaker in the ring made the thumb slitting his throat signal back at Batista, as the two Wrestlemania foes stared each other down.
