Raw Recap 07.02.07


A recap of 07.02.07 Monday Night Raw from Dallas, TX:

Raw opened with highlights of the Championship Challenge from Vengeance, with 4 men going after John Cena's title. The participants in the match, Mick Foley, Randy Orton, King Booker, Bobby Lashley & John Cena gave their comments on what being champion means to them. Cena was able to F-U Mick Foley and collect the pinfall win in the match.

Mr. Kennedy came down to the ring in wrestling attire. Lillian Garcia was back as the ring announcer for RAW. Kennedy said he should be a WWE Champion but the crowd put unecessary pressure and stress on him to compete, causing him to compete too early and lose his shot. As Kennedy was in the middle of yelling his name on the mic, John Cena made his entrance and way to the ring. Cena welcomed Kennedy to Raw and proceeded to call him "Mr. Cameltoe" and other names. Cena said rumor is Kennedy likes to talk and he's a bigmouth and that on Raw you have to stand on your word. Cena asked the audience if it's their fault that Kennedy isn't champion. The audience yelled "NO" and Cena then said Kennedy is the one responsible for losing his "Money in the Bank" opportunity.

King Booker, Randy Orton, and Bobby Lashley each came down to the ring and made their case for why they should be #1 contender for Cena's title. William Regal then appeared on the top of the ramp. Regal said Coach is on holiday so tonight Regal is in charge. Regal said by the end of tonight they will know the #1 contender for Cena's title. Regal said the man who beats his opponent tonight in the fastest time ("Beat the Clock") will get to face Cena for his title at "The Great American Bash".

Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton (Beat the Clock Match 1) - Orton went for several early quick pins with no luck. Hardy was able to knock Orton out of the ring then dropkick him through the ropes as well as jump over the top ropes onto him. Once Orton recovered, he continued to attack Hardy and go for quick pinfall attempts. Orton put Jeff down on the mat and started using a few holds to wear him down. Orton with several slams and moves and a failed pin before 4 minutes. Orton continued to wear down Hardy with a leg lock around Hardy's midsection. When both men got back to their feet, Orton tried to whip Hardy to the ropes, but Hardy reversed and took down Orton to the mat. Hardy tried for several pinfalls and also was able to dropkick Orton in the corner of the ring. Hardy continued to have the match in control and went for a high risk move off the ropes. Orton rolled under the bottom rope and onto the side apron. As Hardy came over, Orton snapped Jeff down against the ropes. Orton tried to throw Hardy to the corner, but Hardy was able to run up the corner and backflip onto Orton for "Whisper in the Wind". As Jeff went to do the Twist of Fate on Orton, Orton reversed and scored a quick RKO for the pin.

Winner: Orton defeated Jeff Hardy via pinfall with a time of 7:06 .

Maria vs. Melina - Candice Michelle came down to the ring with her Women's title belt and joined JR and King at the commentator's table. Despite an early take down of Melina by Maria, Maria managed to gain the upperhand. Melina with an airplane type spin tossed Maria to the mat, then started pulling her hair and attacking Maria. Maria managed to fight back and used a standing bulldog on Melina followed by throwing her to the corner to punch her in the head. Melina escaped the corner and dropped Maria face first into the turnbuckle. Melina then used her finisher in the center of the ring to knock Maria to the mat for the pinfall victory. After her win, Melina came out of the ring and walked up to Candice at the commentator's table. Melina proceeded to attack Candice and shove her into the crowd barrier, but Candice fought back and was able to knock Melina down. Candice then climbed up on the commentator's table and displayed her title for the crowd.

Winner: Melina wins via pinfall over Maria.

A piece was shown about Triple H's injury, surgery and recovery process.

Backstage Dustin Rhodes introduced Hacksaw Jim Duggan to his son and Hacksaw then walked off. Randy Orton walked up and asked Dustin to introduce him to his kid. Orton told Dustin's son and said one day he could be just like Orton. Orton said one day he could be better than Dustin. Dustin called Randy disrespectful, and Orton then slapped Dustin in the face. Dustin's son tried to go at Orton, but Dustin held him back as Orton left.

A recap was shown of how Santino Marella won the Intercontinental title in Milan, Italy. The No Holds Barred match vs Umaga for the title was shown, with Bobby Lashley coming down to knock out Umaga for the pin. Santino and Umaga's Vengeance match was shown, where Umaga continued punching Santino in the corner of the ring. The ref rang the bell, disqualifying Umaga, but Umaga continued attacking and destroying the IC champ.

Backstage Maria shown holding an ice bag on her neck. Santino came back to check on her. Maria said she is more concerned about Santino facing Umaga tonight. Santino said there are people who don't take him serious as champion so he must prove them wrong tonight. Santino then kissed Maria on the cheek for luck.

Umaga vs. Santino Marella (Intercontinental Title match) - Santino got pulled out of the ring through the ropes early by Umaga who started to viciously attack the champ outside the ring. Back in the ring Umaga continued the attack and put a gold on Santino, keeping him down to the mat. Morella was able to fight back and avoid Umaga running at him in the corner. Morella able to kick Umaga down several times. Marella went for a pinfall but Umaga threw Santino up and caused Santino to go rolling out of the ring. Marella tried to get back up on the ropes and jump at Umaga. Umaga caught Morella in the air on his shoulders and slammed him back to the mat. Umaga then dragged Marella to the corner in a seated position. Umaga ran at Marella and smashed his hip into Marella's head. Umaga then brought Marella to the center of the ring and jabbed the Samoan Spike into Marella's throat. Umaga with the pinfall victory to reclaim the Intercontinental Title.

Winner: Umaga wins via pinfall over Santino Marella to win the Intercontinental Title.

Val Venis vs. King Booker (Beat the Clock Match #2) - Booker went to work with a time of 7:06 to beat. Booker had Venis down to the mat with armbar submission with 5 minutes left to win. Booker then began attacking Venis who was stuck on the middle rope. Val Venis gained some momentum around the 3:30 to go mark, knocking Booker down off the ropes and doing a neckbreaker. Booker able to regain the match and used scissors kick off the ropes to knock out Val Venus. Booker won the match in 4:30 and became the new leader in the "Beat the Clock" challenge.

Winner: King Booker wins via pinfall over Val Venis in 4:30.

Mr. Kennedy shown backstage talking to Super Crazy. Kennedy told Super Crazy he should save himself some trouble and humiliation tonight and just lay down in the ring for Kennedy to pin him. Kennedy said he might even slide a few pesos his way for it. Kennedy asked Super Crazy if they have a deal and Crazy said "Si" several times as Kennedy left with a smile.

Super Crazy vs. Mr. Kennedy (Beat the Clock Match #3) - Super Crazy went to fight Kennedy instead of giving in to the deal Kennedy thought he made. With the clock running, Mr. Kennedy grabbed the mic from above the ring and told Super Crazy to never disrespect him like that again. Mr. Kennedy went to yell his trademark name over the mic, but Super Crazy rolled him up for the very quick surprise victory.

Winner: Super Crazy wins via pinfall, eliminating Mr. Kennedy from the "Beat the Clock" tournament.

Backstage King Booker and Queen Sharmelle shown telling Shelton Benjamin about how he would face Bobby Lashley in the final Beat the Clock match. Booker asked Shelton to last 4:30 against Lashley. Booker told Shelton if he did this, he would get the first shot at Booker's WWE title after he wins at "Great American Bash". Booker made Shelton kiss his hand, then Booker kissed Sharmelle.

Todd Grisham backstage with American Dream Dusty Rhodes. Grisham asked Rhodes about what happened with Orton earlier tonight. Dustin Rodes said he wants Orton to meet him in the ring next week.

Carlito backstage telling Jillian he doesn't understand why he has to face this guy Sandman in the ring tonight. Sandman walked up with a beer in hand telling Carlito how he loves to drink and Carlito will get to see what Sandman can do in the ring. Carlito took a bit of his apple and then spit in the face of Sandman, telling him he's cool. Sandman took a drink from his beer and then spit beer in Carlito's face. After Sandman left, Ron Simmons walked up to Carlito, looked at him and yelled "DAMN!".

Carlito vs. Sandman - Sandman's RAW in-ring debut vs. Carlito. Sandman entered the arena through the crowd, drinking and bashing beer cans on his forehead and walking on the side crowd barrier. Early on, Carlito was able to knock Sandman down to the mat and attack him. With the match in his control, Carlito tried to use Sandman's Singapore Cane to go after Sandman. The ref stopped Carlito and snatched the cane out of Carlito's hands. Sandman then took the cane from the ref and smacked the cane down on Carlito's skull. The ref called for the bell awarding the match to Carlito.

Winner: Carlito wins due to disqualification of Sandman.

Shelton Benjamin vs. Bobby Lashley (Beat the Clock Match #4) - The final match in the Beat the Clock challenge. If Lashley wins in under 4:30, he gets the right to face John Cena for the title at "Great American Bash". Lashley went after Benjamin early, taking him down to the mat. Benjamin rolled out of the ring to waste time off the clock. Benajmin got back in the ring where Lashley started to dominate him with his power. Lashley ran at Benjamin with a spear, but Benjamin dove out of the ring again. Back in the ring, Benjamin countered a Lashley move off the ropes to DDT Lashley. Lashley regained control and rammed Benjamin in the corner, followed by a slam in the center of the ring. Lashley ducked and countered several move attempts by Benjamin and tried to slam him, but Benjamin slid off and the kicked Lashley in the face. Benjamin tried to jump backwards off the ropes at Lashley, but Lashley managed to spear him down. Lashley scored the pinfall victory with 26 seconds to spare.

Winner: Lashley wins via pinfall over Shelton Benjamin with a time of 4:04, becoming the #1 contender for John Cena's title.

A promo shown for Triple H to remind people in case they have forgotten, he is "The Game". Various battles with wrestlers such as Cactus Jack, Randy Orton and Rick Flair shown while HHH's theme music played.

William Regal came down to the ring with a clipboard in hand, which held the contract for Lashley and Cena to sign for Great American Bash. Regal introduced Lashley first, then Cena as each came to the ring. Cena came into the ring and grabbed the mic. Cena said they know each other already and that Lashley is a hell of a competitor and athlete, so he is looking forward to their match. Lashley signed off on the contract first. Just then, Mr. Kennedy and King Booker came down to the ring with a mic yelling how this was a set up. Cena told them to shutup and said if they want some to come get some. Booker and Kennedy ran into the ring to attack Lashley and Cena. Cena and Lashley were able to fight off Booker and Kennedy causing them retreat from the ring and back up the ramp. Cena then signed off on the contract. As Cena turned to look at Lashley, Lashley speared Cena down in the ring. Raw went off the air with Lashley at the top of the ramp and Cena looking at him from inside the ring.
