Response to Raw Rant

My recent post "A Raw Rant" had great comments from various WWE fans. I wanted to respond to one comment amongst them here to clear up a possible misconception.

"Anonymous said...

I liked mondays RAW it leaves you wondering who is McMahons child. And for you to say that HHH should have came back and that he didn't was disappointing, you all know he is going to be back at summerslam they have been saying that for atleast a month now, i don't know how you could be disappointed about that. I thought this site was for WWE FANS? Why is it all about dissing the WWE... I have yet to see one blog you post say something good about it"

Where to start? First off, I can understand how that particular blog entry may look cynical towards WWE. In that entry I discussed why the past week's show was a letdown and explained a few of the good points as well as how they might improve it. That commentary comes as a longtime WWE fan who's seen the good and bad for years. So keep in mind I'm often comparing recent shows to the treats we have seen in the past such as Austin, Rock, Triple H etc storming down to the ring or doing something out of nowhere to entertain us. Two recent Raws which had events I never saw coming were the "limo explosion" and Santino winning Umaga's title. Those are the kinds of surprises I think that make for great Raw shows. I felt this past week's Raw was lacking in that department.

More importantly is the comment about "dissing" and "haven't seen one blog say something good about it". This blog provides WWE updates, detailed recaps of the tv shows, news, rumors and yes even commentary. To me that is all about and for fans and far from dissing WWE. I also welcome fans to leave comments here. As a WWE fan I believe we all have the right to say what we like or don't like about the product. I've also been a strong defender of WWE during the media attacks over Chris Benoit and steroid accusations. As a fan though, I believe we can all look at the WWE product critically and decide what might need to be improved, especially in a time when the WWE has been under scrutiny.

Part of being a fan is that we can look at the good and the bad of the product and make observations. Part of the news that goes with WWE involves media stories, unfortunate news reports and issues the WWE may be facing. WWE has been going through a darker time lately and I haven't stopped supporting its product. Never mistake critical observations of something as dissing it though. Most products need feedback in order to sustain themselves and succeed, WWE included. It would be easy to simply say WWE is "ok the way it is". There's going to be wrestlers some of us like, and some we don't like. We cheer or boo them based on how we feel about them. The same goes for storylines or gimmicks that WWE uses. All in all, I do support WWE for its entertainment value, I believe the majority of the superstars are talented and try to do their best to entertain us. I want fans to receive the best entertainment product they can from WWE, which as fans we all should want. That is where my criticism arrives from, a longtime fan's perspective. If I were truly dissing WWE, I would never attend live WWE events or provide WWE show recaps, news and commentary. I'd also be discussing TNA here instead, and don't plan to do that.

Feel free to leave comments. I felt this comment needed to be addressed and hope that fans will not take criticism of WWE in a negative way but rather as a discussion ground of things that can be improved. Thank you to Anonymous for making this point as well, because all viewpoints are welcome here.

Thanks Kelby, I appreciate your positive support too. I think we are most critical of the things we enjoy most, such as WWE..
