Smackdown Recap 08.17.07


Recap of Smackdown from Uncasville, CT

Smackdown kicked off with Cole and JBL discussing tonight's matches, including Kane versus The Great Khali in a Wrestlemania 23 rematch. THey also said Batista would be appearing.

MVP was in the ring in a suit sitting on a couch. MVP had a mic in hand and stood up welcoming everyone to "The VIP Lounge" a new in-ring show. MVP discussed how he had challenged Matt Hardy to a boxing match for Saturday Night's Main Event. MVP said due to his heart condition he had to choose a replacement, Evander Holyfield, who is his sparring partner. MVP then called out his guest for tonight, Matt Hardy.

MVP insulted Matt saying "people like you don't normally appear in VIP lounges". Matt said he beat a person like MVP last week in their challenge. Matt told MVP he has a heart condition, "a lack thereof". Matt said he'd go forth and fight Evander Holyfield. MVP asked Matt if he was serious about taking any challenge issued. Matt said he was. MVP introduced Matt's next challenge, Chris Masters. MVP called for a ref after Masters got down to the ring.

Masterlock Challenge (Hardy vs Masters)

Hardy slapped Masters in the face when he came at him, causing Masters to become enraged. Masters pushed the couches and set in the ring around as the ref set up a chair. Hardy sat in the steel chair and Masters slapped the Masterlock on. The ref took the chair away as Masters kept the hold slapped on. MVP was yelling during the matchup on a mic from outside the ring and yelled that Matt seemed to have some life in him still. Just then, MVP got into the ring as Masters had the hold on Matt still. MVP kicked Hardy in the stomach twice. The ref tried to get Masters off Hardy, and Masters finally threw Matt to the mat. MVP and Masters began to leave the ring, then got back in. MVP ran over and did his finisher on Matt as he was getting up.

Winner: Chris Masters forced to break the hold by ref after MVP interfered.

Highlights shown from this past week's Raw, where Mr. McMahon learned from Stephanie that his illegitimate child is a WWE superstar.

Coach and Vince seen walking backstage at the arena. Coach said everyone has checked out so far to not be Vince's child except for ECW's Big Daddy V. Vince was shocked to hear this but told Coach they needed to check everyone here on Smackdown tonight because he's dying to find out who his son or daughter is.



Jesse and Festus shown. Jesse said he wished he was Mr. McMahon's illegitimate child, because he'd love to live the good life. Jesse said Festus has the "face of a McMahon".

The Major Brothers vs. Deuce & Domino

Brian started off versus Domino with the two grappling. Domino backed Brian to the corner to punch him. Brian got the upperhand after two armbar takedowns, then tagged in Brett who jumped over the ropes to land on Domino. The Majors doubleteamed Domino keeping him away from his partner. Domino finally reversed things by slamming Brett to the mat face first, then tagging in Deuce. Deuce threw Brett to the corner, but Brett avoided him and tried to roll up Deuce for a pin.

Domino came back in to put Brett in a hold down on the mat, then picked him for a neckbreaker. Brett Major able to slam Deuce backwards then crawled over to tag in Brian. Brian came in to clean house, flying around the ring at Deuce. Brett came into the ring and ran at Domino clothslining him out of the ring. As Domino and Brett landed outside the ring, Brian tried to jump off the corner at Deuce. Deuce moved out of the way causing Brian to fall on the mat. Deuce then ran off the ropes and delivered a solid kick to a seated Brian Majors' head. Deuce with the pinfall victory.

Winners: Deuce and Domino win via pinfall over The Major Brothers.

Mr. McMahon backstage with Coach, Teddy Long, Kristal and Vickie Guerrero. Vince congratulated Teddy and Kristal on their wedding. Just then, Great Khali and Singh stormed into the office. Khali yelled and Singh told Teddy Long that Khali has to defend his title in 9 days at Summerslam so he wants out of the match tonight versus Kane. Teddy told Singh that the match would happen tonight. Khali shook hands with Mr. McMahon. Coach asked Vince "remember the time you told me about in India?". Vince eyed over Khali. Khali and Singh left and Vince told Coach "hey he could be my son", smiling.

Chuck Palumbo promo shown as he rode a motorcycle. Palumbo said "Prepare for the ride of your life!" as he rode off.



Last week's highlights shown from Finlay vs. Matt Hardy match. Hornswaggle became involved and Jamie Noble went after him. Hornswaggle escaped up the ramp causing Noble to chase him backstage. Finlay left the ring to chase them both, and was counted out in his match. Backstage, Finlay found Noble talking to Shannon Moore and Funaki. Finlay warned Noble about putting his hands on Hornswaggle then hit a drink cup out of Moore's hand. The drink spilled all over a nearby Kane, who proceeded to toss Finlay around into equipment and onto a buffet table. Later on that night, Finlay came to the ring after Kane's match and took him out with his shalalee.

Jamie Noble vs. Finlay

Finlay backed Noble to a corner then whipped Noble to the other. Noble able to reverse things and attack Finlay, eventually knocking Finlay out of the ring. Noble went out to continue beating up Finlay, but Finlay was able to ram him into the steel steps. Dinlay got Noble back into the ring where he started to target the knee of Noble. Finlay slammed Noble twice and made sure Noble's leg hit the ropes each time. Finlay then slapped on a Boston Crab leg hold to further punish the injured knee. Noble finally crawled to the bottom rope to break the hold. Finlay continued to attack the leg, using an "Indian Deathlock" as described by JBL. Just then an explosion happened at the ramp, and Kane came walking down to the ring.

Finlay left the ring with his shalalee to go at Kane. Kane punched Finlay immediately tossing him back into the ring. Kane tossed Finlay to the corner and went after him. Noble tried to start kicking Finlay, but Kane pushed Noble away. As Kane went back after Finlay, Hornswaggle snuck into the ring behind Noble. The leprechaun then pushed Noble causing him to bump into Kane. Hornswaggle scurried out of the ring and back under it. Kane turned as Noble shook his head that it wasn't his fault. Kane then chokeslammed Noble down center of the ring, as Finlay escaped.

Winner: Finlay wins due to disqualification of Jamie Noble when Kane interfered.

Shannon Moore vs. Chavo Guerrero

Chavo came down to the ring with a Mysterio mask in hand. Chavo placed the mask on the corner ringpost waving "bye bye" at it as if he was predicting he would get rid of Mysterio at Summerslam.

Early on Chavo took control of the match slamming Moore back and then elbowing him from the corner. Moore took control off the ropes, landing a head scissors to throw Chavo out of the ring. Moore then tried to slide dropkick Guerrero, but Chavo moved away. Chavo able to toss Moore into the side apron/ring post, hurting Moore's leg. Back in the ring, Chavo continued to target the injured knee of Moore with several holds on the mat. Moore finally got back to his feet fighting, and was able to escape Chavo in the corner. Moore then climbed the ropes and flipped off onto Chavo. Moore tried for a neckbreaker but Chavo reversed it. Chavo tried to hoist up Moore in a hold on his shoulders, but Moore slid off to roll him up. After a failed pin by Moore, Chavo was able to land the "Brain Buster", driving Moore's skull into the mat. Chavo then scored the pinfall victory.

After the win, Chavo took the Mysterio mask from the ringpost and put it onto Moore. Chavo slammed Moore back to the mat, then climbed the ropes. Chavo used a Frog Splash and landed on Moore's already injured knee. Moore writhed in pain in the ring clutching his knee.

Winner: Chavo Guerrero wins via pinfall over Shannon Moore.

Michael Cole said Michelle McCool would be taking on Victoria in an upcoming match. JBL said Batista would come out to speak next.



Highlights from last week's Smackdown shown with Khali using a claw grip to put both Flair and Batista down to the mat.

Batista came out to the ramp looking upset after what went down last week. In the ring, Batista took a mic and told the crowd to excuse him if he seems a little grouchy because its been a long week. Batista discussed how the freak Khali wrapped a vice-grip claw on his forehead last week. Batista said he's been in all sorts of matches but has never felt pain like that or been humiliated like that. Batista then began to make a promise to the crowd and Ric Flair for Summerslam. Just then, Khali appeared on the Titantron yelling. Singh told Batista to make all the promises he wants but at Summerslam Khali will apply the claw grip even harder. Singh then handed Khali a basketball to demonstrate. Khali began to squeeze the basketball between both hands finally popping it. Singh said Batista would experience that at Summerslam.

Vince shown walking with Coach backstage discussing the chance that Great Khali might be Vince's son. Coach asked Vince about the possibility that Batista could be his son. Coach told Vince that really anybody could be his son. Just then Big Dick Johnson appeared nearby dressed in a diaper and with a pacifier. Johnson began to dance near Coach and Vince with Coach eventually joining in to dance a bit. Vince gave a look to Coach who stopped and the two walked off with Johnson dancing and following them down the hall.

Greg Cardona vs. Mark Henry

Cardona tried to grab Henry from behind, but Henry quickly threw him off. Henry grabbed Cardona with one hand and tossed him through the ropes. Henry went out to throw his opponent back into the ring, where he started to stomp on him down on the mat. Henry then threw the man across the ring. Henry picked up Cardona and then used the "World's Strongest Slam". Henry went for the pin but then pulled up at 2 to further punish Cardona. Henry picked up the man in a solid bear hug, forcing the ref to ring the bell for a submission.

After the win, Mark Henry discussed how someone dressed as a druid came out to the ring last week. Henry says he doesn't intimidate easy because in this jungle he reigns supreme. Henry then had a highlight reel shown on the Titantron of what he did to Undertaker, beating him up and forcing him to leave Smackdown. The highlights cut to footage of a desert with druids walking. A voice whispered how the Undertaker has been set on fire, buried alive, but he keeps coming back. As the footage ended, Henry started to speak again as the arena went dark and Undertaker's bells/music sounded. Just then the lights came back on, and two druids stood at the bottom of the ramp in a pile of sand. The lights went back out and then came on showing the druids had vanished. Henry went out to the pile of sand and picked up sand in his hand looking bewildered.

Winner: Mark Henry wins via submission over Greg Cardona.



Kristal and Teddy were talking to Torrie Wilson and Michelle McCool. Kristal asked them to be her brides maids. Just then Victoria and Kenny came into the office. Victoria said she's excited to be a bridesmaid too, but Kristal said she already had enough bridesmaids. Kristal said they could still attend her wedding though. Victoria became upset saying Kristal just wanted another gift from someone. Michelle McCool stood up to Victoria saying she could give a gift by not going to the wedding. Victoria then slapped Michelle. Michelle tried to slap Victoria who ducked, causing Michelle to hit Kenny instead. Victoria and Michelle then began to fight on the couch.

Vince shown walking with Coach backstage as they came up to Jimmy Wang Yang and Funaki. Yang introduced himself to Vince saying "Im your boy". Then Funaki told Vince that he just visited Japan and his mother said she "loved Vince a long time". Coach told Vince he never told him about Japan. Just then Kane walked up behind them and put his arms on Vince and Coach's shoulders. Kane looked at Vince and chuckled, then said "Dad".




Michelle McCool vs. Victoria

Victoria came down to the ring wth Kenny who was carrying a towel and water bucket. Victoria pushed Michelle as the match started and Michelle responded by tossing Victoria out of the ring. Michelle then did a sliding dropkick into Victoria outside the ring. Michelle then tossed Victoria back into the ring, where Victoria was able to gain control. Victoria started to toss Michelle around the ring by her hair and started kicking her when down. Michelle finally able to get a move off the ropes, flipping over Victoria then using armbar takedowns. Michelle with a clothesline off the ropes. Kenny tried to help Victoria by handing her the metal water bucket. Michelle kicked Victoria knocking her down with the bucket. The ref then grabbed the object from Victoria, as Michelle climbed the corner turnbuckle. Michelle jumped off the ropes to clothesline Victoria down and get a pinfall victory.

Winner: Michelle McCool wins via pinfall over Victoria.




Promo ad shown for Triple H being rebuilt Bigger, stronger, faster and better than before. Michael Cole and JBL then covered the list of matches scheduled for Summerslam.

Coach and Vince talked in the hall of a backstage garage of the arena about how to find out who Vince's kid is. Coach said they would look at a list of superstars and their birthdays to determine who it might be. Howard Finkel came running up to talk to Vince. Coach suggested how Finkel might be Vince's son. Vince looked at Fink, then shoved him away. Vince told Coach "lets get outta here", as the two got into a waiting limo.

Great Khali came down the ramp with his manager Singh for the upcoming match.

Kane vs. The Great Khali

Kane came to the ring with tape on his ribs due to Finlay attacking him with the shalalee last week. Kane started punching Khali early, but Khali shoved Kane down to the mat. Kane tried to battle again, with Khali eventually tossing Kane out of the ring. Khali went out after Kane who then gave an uppercut to Khali. Back in the ring, Kane tried to jump at Khali off the ropes, but Khali high Kane in the ribs. Kane tried to pick up Khali for a slam, but Khali hammered a fist down on Kane's back. Khali then kicked Kane in the ribs and tossed him into a ring corner.

Khali began to punch away at Kane and then grabbed his injured ribs. Kane tried to fight back off the ropes but Khali kicked him down. Khali kept Kane down on the mat, squeezing his ribcage area to exploit Kane's injury. Kane struggled to get to his feet then was able to ram Khali back into a corner. Kane tried to run at Khali who elbowed him. Kane recovered to start punching away at Khali who fell into a seated position on the ropes. Kane able to run at Khali twice, clothslining him hard. Kane then signaled for the chokeslam. Kane slapped the hold onto Khali's neck but Khali also slapped his claw grip onto Kane's skull and began to squeeze. Kane eventually lost his grip on Khali's neck. Kane struggled for a bit as Khali continued to keep the hold locked in. Kane fell to the mat, where Khali pinned him with the claw grip still applied.

After the win, Finlay ran down to the ring to attack Kane with the shalalee. Just then Batista came running down to save Kane, and slammed Finlay down. Batista went over and started to ax chop away at Khali in the corner, then turned to see Finlay coming at him. Batista speared down Finlay then prepared to Batista Bomb him. Khali came up from behind Batista and then squeezed Batista's head between both hands. Batista struggled to stay up, but couldn't escape the hold, falling to the mat. Khali left the ring with both Batista and Kane down. Khali then posed at the top of the ramp, hoisting his championship belt high above his head.

Winner: Khali wins via pinfall over Kane.

You know that sand that was there after Mark Henry's match could mean that he and the Undertaker could have a buried alive match at no mercy.

Good point and that would make for a great match too. Let's hope that's what they do...
