WWE Smackdown Recap 09.21.07

Recap of Smackdown from Atlanta, GA:

Smackdown opens with the announcement of Teddy and Kristal's wedding tonight. Michael Cole says tonight is the season premiere of Smackdown and hands it over to WWE Diva Maria who's backstage with rap group, the Ying Yang Twans. Maria then introduces Vince McMahon who comes over with Coach and shakes hands with the rappers. A comment's made about Hornswoggle and how they don't know where he is. Coach tells the Ying Yang Twins he's a big fan of them, the Kings of Country and Vince corrects Coach.

Batista comes down to the ring in a suit carrying his newly-won World Heavyweight title. Michael Cole discussed the great victory where Batista delivered a spinebuster to Khali at Unforgiven for the pin. In the ring, Batista spoke about how Great Khali is exercising his rematch clause for No Mercy, and they will have a Punjabi Prison match. Just then, Mark Henry's music comes on and Henry came down to the ring.

Henry said he could care less about Batista's celebration and about his match coming up for No Mercy. Henry said he does care about his match next week on Smackdown, when the Undertaker returns to the show. Henry told Batista to realize that if he wants that title belt, he'll take it when he wants. Batista told Henry that he's had a "Batista beatdown" coming for a while now, so if he wants a match he's got it, tonight.

Maria shown backstage with the Ying Yang Twins dancing around and rapping. She introduces Jeff Hardy, who says tonight's a big party. Hardy hands his Intercontinental title belt to the Ying Yang Twins. Hardy then starts to dance with the 3.

Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Jamie Noble

Early on Yang isolates Noble in the corner then climbs the rope and punches away at him. Noble pushed Yang off and then took control, forcing Yang down to the mat in an amrhold. Yang got back to his feet and tried to gain momentum off the ropes, but Noble knocked him back down. Noble continued to work the left arm of Yang, twisting it as Yang got up. Yang pulled Noble by his arm tossing him down. Yang then kicked Noble in the back of the head and had a near pinfall.

Noble regained commercial and got Yang in yet another armhold down on the mat. Yang finally crawled over to the bottom rope to escape. Noble eventually stood Yang up and whipped him to the corner. Noble beat Yang up some more, leaving him laying in the ring. Just then, Noble spotted a green leprechaun hat behind the crowd barrier. Noble left the ring and went over to discover it was Shannon Moore. Moore stood up and started to point and laugh at Noble. Yang was able to jump off the turnbuckle and knock down Noble. Back in the ring, Yang was able to connect on a moonsault and pick up the pinfall victory. Moore continued to laugh at Noble from the crowd.

Winner: Jimmy Wang Yang wins via pinfall over Jamie Noble.

MVP shown backstage with a football in hand. Matt Hardy comes up and asks MVP if he's ever going to throw the ball. MVP throws one ball and it bounces off the tire hanging down the hall, missing the opening. MVP takes a second ball and throws it, getting it through. MVP starts to brag how he's better than Hardy. Matt Hardy then throws 2 footballs and each goes through. He goes for the third, but MVP jumps in the way to catch it and yells "interception!" MVP then tells Hardy they need to head out for their tag team match next.

Deuce & Domino vs. MVP & Matt Hardy

MVP tells Hardy to start and then goes to the apron, but as he turns his back, Matt tags him. Deuce attacks from behind as the match starts. MVP manages to gain control things and tagged in Matt, as they whip Deuce to the ropes for a double clothesline. MVP lands it first without Hardy being involved. Hardy tags in MVP again who says he'll use a knee on Deuce, but Hardy suplexes Deuce instead. Deuce finally is able to knock MVP down once Hardy leaves the ring. Deuce brings MVP to the corner of the ring where he and Domino start to double team MVP as Smackdown goes to commercial.

Smackdown returns with Domino applying a hold to MVP down on the mat. Domino and Deuce continue to isolate MVP in their corner kicking away at the US champ. Domino picks up MVP in a suplex and Deuce jumps off the top ropes to knock him down. Matt Hardy runs in to disrupt the pin. MVP finally is able to pick up Deuce and drop him down, the started to crawl over to Matt for the tag. MVP is able to finally reach over for the tag to Hardy as Deuce tags in his partner too.

Hardy comes in and gains momentum over Domino, using an elbow drop on him off the ropes. Deuce comes in and tries to interfere, but Matt is able to knock him down and eventually out of the ring. Hardy misses a pin on Domino, but lands a side slam. As Hardy signals for the Twist of Fate, MVP tries to reach out and slap his back for a tag. Hardy ducks and avoids MVP's tag attempts. With Hardy's back turned, Domino pushes him into MVP, causing MVP to fly off the side apron and hit his head on the commentator table Matt tries to finish off Domino with no luck. MVP gets back in and yells at Hardy who pushes him down to the corner. Just then, Domino rolls up Hardy from behind for the pin and the victory.

Winners: Deuce and Domino win via pinfall over Matt Hardy and MVP.

Backstage Teddy Long is in a tuxedo with his groomsmen, including best man Ron Simmons and Butch Reed. Butch Reed congratulates Teddy Long and asks how he got a girl so fly. They began to ask how Kristal is and Teddy says he hasn't consumated the marriage yet, but tonight he'll make Kristal "holla".

Recap shown of the I Quit match between Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero. Rey extracted revenge by hanging Guerrero upside down in the corner of the ring and bashing him with a steel chair until he quit.

Rey Mysterio comes down to the ring for his 1st interview since returning to Smackdown. Michael Cole interviewed Rey in the ring, discussing what a comeback it's been for Mysterio so far. Cole said Mysterio was within seconds of winning the title at Unforgiven. Rey congratulated his friend Batista on becoming the champ, but added that friends or not, he will become the champion again. Cole discussed the feud Mysterio had with Chavo Guerrero which culminated in the I Quit match where Mysterio gained some revenge. Mysterio said it was more like "redemption".

Just then, JBL grabbed a mic and got up from the commentator table yelling about how Cole was asking easy questions. JBL got into the ring and told Mysterio he was a disgrace to the country and to the Smackdown show. Mysterio reminded JBL that he was the one who made JBL retire in his last match. Mysterio asked JBL if he wanted round 2, and JBL took off his suit coat preparing to fight. JBL said he's been waiting for a long time for this, but then said he's under contract as an announcer so he can't attack superstars. JBL said he found someone earlier who loves to fight. Just then, Finlay's music came on and Finlay walked down the ramp to the ring. Finlay walked up to Mysterio with a mic and hand. Instead of speaking, Finlay clocked Rey on the head with the mic, knocking him down. Finlay picked up his shalalee and walked over to look at the fallen Mysterio, then exited the ring smirking.

The Raw rebound shows footage of Unforgiven with Coach yelling at Cena's dad backstage after the Orton vs Cena match. John Cena comes in telling Coach not to mess with his dad and shoves Coach down. Coach then made a match on Raw with Randy Orton vs Cena's dad. Cena had the chance to save his dad by winning a match, but Orton ran down causing a DQ. Orton then handcuffed Cena to the bottom rope to force him to watch as his dad was beatup. Cena finally pulled the bottom rope off and got into the ring, chasing Orton off. However, it was too late to save his dad who was layed out on the mat, due to Orton's brutal beatdown.

Maria shown backstage with the Ying Yang twins who have a mic in hand. Just then, Jimmy Wang Yang comes over and asks who they are and they introduce themselves to each other. Yang leaves as Carlito walks up. Just then a loud rumbling motor is heard, and Carlito quickly exits. Chuck Palumbo rides up on a motorcycle, and Maria asks a few questions. Palumbo answers by revving up the motor on his bike, then rides off.

Kristal shown backstage in her wedding gown toasting champagne with her bridesmaids, Torrie, Michelle and bridesmaid, Vickie. R&B group Jagged Edge enters the room and hugs everyone, then signs a copy of their new cd for Kristal. They tell Kristal they will sing later, but serenade Kristal a bit with some acapella first.

Mark Henry vs. Batista

Henry tried to run at Batista in the corner, but Batista elbowed him to escape. Off the ropes, Batista clotheslined Henry down. Henry recovered and began to splash Batista in the corner, then choked him against the ropes. Henry took control, slamming Batista down. After holding Batista down on the mat, Henry tossed Batista to the corner. Batista recovered and began to dominate the match, jumping off the corner ropes to hit Henry. After Batista delivered a spinebuster, Great Khali's music came on, and Khali made his way down the ramp with his translator following.

Bastita left the ring and went up to start punching Khali on the ramp. Looking back, Batista noticed Mark Henry out of the ring and ran at him to deliver a spear. With his attention turned, Khali attacked Batista from behind, getting the upperhand. Khali continued to beat up Batista, then tossed him into the ring. Mark Henry came into the ring to help with the beatdown of Batista. Khali used the vice grip on Batista's head then picked him up with both hands and slammed him down on his back. Khali stood over Batista and raised his arms up as Smackdown went to commercial break.

Winner: Batista wins due to disqualification of Mark Henry, when Great Khali interfered.

Kristal & Teddy's Wedding

Reverend Bruce Bruce came down to the ring leading a group of well-dressed superstars from all 3 rosters of WWE. CM Punk, Extreme Expose, The Miz, Carlito, Jeff Hardy, Vince McMahon, Coach, Arn Anderson, Sgt. Slaughter and IRS all were part of the nearly 40 superstars in attendance. Vince took a seat in the front row of chairs looking at the ring. Hornswoggle crawled out from under the ring with a small white chair and a phone book. Hornswoggle set the chair up next to Coach and Vince, then put the phone book on it and sat on it. Hornswoggle looked excited as Vince had a total look of disgust on his face. Smackdown went to commercial, as Michael Cole said the wedding was coming up next.

Smackdown returned to the wedding ceremony with Teddy Long coming down to the ring smiling, followed by the bridesmaid escorted by groomsmen. Finally, Kristal was introduced in her white wedding dress, and made her way down the ramp to the ring. Kristal tripped as she started up the steps to the ring, so Teddy ran over and helped her up. Reverend Bruce Bruce introduced Jagged Edge who performed the wedding song "Let's Get Married". After their performance, Jillian Hall came down saying she wouldn't let that awful performance ruin the wedding. Jillian began to sing in her awful singing voice causing boos and superstars covering their ears. Candice Michelle and another diva grabbed Jillian to shut her up and brought her backstage.

As Reverend Bruce Bruce started to speak again Hornswoggle began to play-fight with Coach, causing Vince to stand up and yell at his son. Reverend Bruce Bruce asked if there was anyone who felt the wedding should not take place. There was a brief silence and the reverend went to start again, but just then the Godfather Pimp's music came on. Godfather came walking down to the ring with 5 women. In the ring, Godfather congratulated Teddy, but also reminded him of the good times Teddy, Godfather and Ron Simmons used to have. Godfather asked someone to take a ride on the Ho train, and Simmons volunteered but was yelled at. Godfather exited with his women up the ramp, and was followed by the male wrestler guests attending the wedding. Just Vince, Hornswoggle, Coach and the WWE divas were left to watch the wedding.

Order was restored and Teddy and Kristal started to say their vows. Hornswoggle became unruly and ran into the ring, running under Kristal's dress. Coach chased after him, chasing him out of the ring. Vince got up and chased after both as they all ran backstage. Reverend Bruce Bruce said they should just "get to the I Do's". As he asked Teddy to say I Do, all of a sudden Teddy collapsed in the ring. Kristal began shrieking and screaming as everyone tried to assist the fallen Teddy Long. Paramedics rushed down to the ring with a stretcher and began attending to Teddy as Smackdown closed.
