ECW Recap 04.08.08

ECW Recap from Boston, MA:

Joey Styles announced that tonight will be the contract signing for the Chavo vs. Kane ECW title rematch at Backlash. The Miz and John Morrison made their way to the ring for the first match of the show.

CM Punk vs. The Miz w/John Morrison

Morrison sat ringside at the commentators table to root on his tag team partner. Punk brought his MITB briefcase to the ring. Morrison commented that Punk can cash the title contract in anytime and anyplace, but ultimately he'll lose the title to John Morrison.

Miz ducked under the top rope early to escape CM Punk's attack. Punk regained control by locking Miz into a headlock, then knocking him down after running off the ropes. Punk maintained the advantage by knocking Miz down and slamming him, then re-applying a headlock on the mat. Miz was able to turn the tables and get Punk in a headlock of his own, then went off the ropes to knock Punk down several times. On the third try, Punk tripped Miz down and applied a leg hold to hurt Miz' leg. Punk took advantage and began kicking Miz in the injured knee.

Miz recovered and catapulted CM Punk out over the top rope. Punk soon climbed on the apron and punched Miz, but then became distracted by Morrison. Miz punched Punk off the apron while he was focused on Morrison. After attacking Punk outside the ring, Miz tossed him back into the ring to apply a headlock.

Punk regained control and was able to hit a flying clothesline off the ropes. Just as Punk seemed in control, Morrison jumped up to come over and distract. With the ref and Punk turned to Morrison, Miz tried to finish off Punk. The ref ordered Morrison to leave ringside, and an angry Morrison exited up the ramp as ECW hit break. When the show returned, Miz had just knocked Punk down and began to punch away on him. As Miz was standing up, Punk grabbed his legs for a surprise pin, but Miz kicked out. The two continued at it with Miz in control and using a submission hold. Punk got to his feet and fought out of the hold, then came off the ropes. Both wrestlers clotheslined each other at once.

Both men got to their feet, but this time Punk gained momentum with kicks to Miz and moves off the ropes. After a powerslam, Miz kicked out of another near pinfall by Punk. Miz was able to whip Punk to the corner and hit a running clothesline, then splashed himself onto Punk from the apron. Punk was able to get enough energy up to dropkick Miz towards the corner, then delivered a bulldog followed by Go To Sleep.

Winner: CM Punk wins via pinfall over The Miz.

ECW GM Armando Estrada was shown in a backstage office. A knock came at the door, and in came Colin Delaney with Tommy Dreamer. Delaney politely asked for a WWE contract. Estrada said he was too busy for this, but Dreamer began to urge Estrada to give Delaney a shot at it. Estrada finally said Delaney could try to earn it tonight by taking on Tommy Dreamer. If Colin wins he's hired, but if Dreamer loses, he's fired from WWE.

An ad was shown for the special 3 hour Raw coming a week from next Monday. The ad included an invite for a battle between Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama, so they can settle their political differences in the ring.

ECW Title Match Contract Signing

ECW GM Armando Estrada was in-ring and introduced Chavo. Chavo came walking down the ramp flanked by Hawkins & Ryder. Chavo took a seat at the table set up in the ring. Next, Estrada introduced the new ECW champ, Kane. Kane layed his ECW belt on the table, and Chavo put his feet up. Kane shoved his feet off and the two stood up staring at each other. Estrada calmed things down and told both men to be seated.

Kane started to sign the contract first, and Chavo spoke into the mic asking Kane if he was sure he wants to sign away the ECW title. Kane responded saying Chavo is rather cocky for someone who lost in 8 seconds at Wrestlemania. Chavo told Kane he cheated and at Backlash, he'll have someone watching his back. All of a sudden some music came on and an unknown man with a shaved head came down to the ring in a suit. The man climbed the corner of the ring looking at Kane. Kane went over towards him but got jumped from behind by Chavo, Ryder & Hawkins. From here, the four men attacked Kane, then Ryder, Hawkins and the new guy held Kane on the contract table for a Chavo Frogsplash. Chavo then signed the contract with Kane crushed through a table before they all left Kane in the ring.

Nunzio vs. Elijah Burke

Early on the two wrestlers grappled to the mat with Nunzio seeming to be in control. Burke brought them back to their feet and tossed Nunzio to the mat, then whipped him to the ropes for a backflip. Burke began to stomp Nunzio and then left the ring to beat him up on the apron. In the ring Nunzio tried to fight back until Burke hit him with a solid punch. Burke set Nunzio against the middle rope then jumped on his back. Burke followed up by dropping off the corner ropes to punch Nunzio.

Nunzio gained brief momentum, until Burke grabbed him for a German Suplex. Burke picked up Nunzio and then clotheslined him down hard for the pinfall.

Winner: Elijah Burke wins via pinfall over Nunzio.

Domino vs. Kofi Kingston

The undefeated did a quick leg takedown of Domino to start things off, and continued using his quickness to take him down. Kofi used a wrist arm drag and held Domino down on the mat. Kofi continue to dominate, whipping Domino to the corner, then jumping up to punch on him. Domino whipped Kofi to the opposite corner and ran at him. As Kofi jumped up, Domino grabbed his legs to slam him down face first.

Domin tried to keep Kofi down on the mat in a submission hold, but Kofi fought back. Domino put Kofi up on his shoulders to squeeze him, but Kofi flipped out of it then gained momentum back. Kofi whipped Domino to the ropes for a flying elbow to the face. Off the ropes Kofi hit a double leg drop. Domino was able to avoid Kofi flying at him, and then went off the ropes for a move. Kofi was too quick and hit the Jamaican Buzzsaw kick to win it.

Winner: Kofi Kingston wins via pinfall over Domino.

Backstage, Eve Torres was talking to Kelly Kelly when Layla came up to interrupt. Layla told Eve there's only room at ECW for 1 Diva search winner. Kelly told Layla that Eve was there to tell everyone something. Layla responded "yes they're real & no I've never dated him" then told Eve she better not see her around there again or she'll be sorry. Eve asked Kelly what Layla's problem is as ECW went to break.

Tazz & Styles announced that the Brothers of Destruction, Kane & Undertaker will be reunited next week on ECW.

Colin Delaney vs. Tommy Dreamer

In this match contracts were on the line. If Colin wins he earns a WWE contract, but Tommy Dreamer is fired. Armando Estrada sat ringside to watch the match.

Dreamer took Delaney down early to start things, but Colin grabbed the ropes to break things up. Dreamer took control with armbar takedowns and slams. Delaney eluded Dreamer on another move and tried to fight back a bit, until Dreamer clotheslined him down. Colin started to get up near the ropes and Dreamer ran at him. Colin held the ropes down and Dreamer fell outside the ring. Colin followed up by dropkicking Dreamer then jumping over the ropes onto him.

Colin tossed Dreamer back in the ring for several pin attempts. Dreamer got back up to slam Colin to the mat again. Dreamer sat Colin on the corner and slapped him a few times then climbed up. Delaney shoved Dreamer off then tried to do a dopkick off the corner, but Dreamer moved. Dreamer was able to shove Colin forward into the corner again, then picked him up and hung him upside down. Dreamer ran at Colin and deliver a dropkick, followed by DDT for the pinfall win.

Winner: Tommy Dreamer wins via pinfall over Colin Delaney. Dreamer remains an employee of WWE while Delaney has not earned a contract.
