Smackdown Prepares for Backlash
On Friday's Smackdown we were given a few entertaining matches, the announcement of 2 title rematches for the Backlash PPV, a custom chopper given to Michelle McCool and a possible set up for a Batista-Shawn Michaels feud or match.
Matt Hardy's back and even though he lost in his match against Randy Orton on Raw, he was looking to make a statement against MVP. It was great to see this type of match on the program, and Matt got the clean win using a Twist of Fate. It appears Matt's ready to challenge for MVP's US Championship yet again. Expect to see the match set for the next PPV or afterwards.
Shawn Michaels came out on Smackdown to tell the WWE fans his conscience feels better now about sending Flair into retirement. The winner of the brand superiority match, Smackdown's Batista came to the ring to say HBK made the wrong choice. Batista accused Michaels of being egotistical and selfish by entering into the WM24 match with Flair. It appears these two are headed towards some one on one contests. This should make for an interesting new feud from both men, as they've both been lingering around the title pictures on their respective brands.
People may not care too much about Michelle McCool winning the Custom Chopper from Beverly Hills. It may have just been a way for WWE to help the Chopper shop advertise their products. Michelle was voted by fans as Smackdown's top diva, and beat out Cherry. An unidentified blonde female came to the ring to help Victoria attack Michelle and slap Cherry. We'll definitely have more on her story in weeks to come, although there was an unidentified blonde who attacked Torrie Wilson on a 2007 Smackdown, and we never saw here appear again.
Vladimir Kozlov finally made his WWE debut on Smackdown beating an amateur wrestler. Kozlov displayed a lot of agression in the ring and easily dismantled the opponent. He's going to need a feud, and you'd have to think Kane or Batista fit the bill. Either that or he becomes the next guy to go after Undertaker, once Edge's chances at the title are up.
Finally, at the top of the show Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero told us there will be two rematches at Backlash. Chavo will take on Kane for the ECW belt, and Edge will have his rematch against Undertaker, for the World Heavyweight. To top things off, Vickie announced that Kane would battle Undertaker in the main event. It was definitely an entertaining match with both men giving their all, but most people knew what was going to end it. Interference from Chavo, Edge, Ryder & Hawkins, which saw the Brothers of Destruction deliver chokeslams and piledrivers on their future opponents. I wouldn't mind seeing them defeat Miz and Morrison to win the tag team titles either. Expect to see Taker & Kane team up to face Edge and Chavo on the next Smackdown or prior to the PPV.
