ECW Recap 04.29.08

ECW Recap from Atlantic City, NJ:

Mike Adamle and Tazz discussed tonight's main event, a handicap match between Kane and Chavo Guerrero with partner Bam Neely. Also tonight will be a session of Striker's Classroom where Matt's guest is Mick Foley, the newest member of Smackdown's commentary team. Shelton Benjamin made his way to the ring for tonight's opening match.

Shelton Benjamin vs. Kofi Kingston

Footage was shown of Kofi defeating Shelton on last week's show. Benjamin took control early on over Kofi, going for two quick pins, then slamming him around the ring. Kofi tried to retaliate but was knocked back down quickly by Shelton. At one point, Shelton sat Kofi up on the corner ropes and hammered away. Shelton climbed up to superplex Kofi, but the young star fought out of it, then shoved Shelton off. Shelton tried to run up the corner at Kofi, but Kofi pushed him away then did a high leaping bodypress. Shelton turned Kofi over for the pin, but Kofi kicked out.

Another nearfall by Shelton, and then he whipped Kofi to the corner. Shelton whipped Kofi to the opposite corner, then charged at him. Kofi quickly moved away and Shelton hit the corner, then met with a roundhouse kick from Kofi, followed by the pinfall!

Winner: Kofi Kingston wins by pinfall over Shelton Benjamin.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Mike Knox

Colin Delaney came to the ring with his mentor, the ECW original Tommy Dreamer. Early on in the match, Knox hit a hard clothesline to knock Dreamer to the mat. Knox tried to keep Dreamer down to the mat, but Tommy eventually got to his feet. Knox quickly slammed him back to the mat. Colin Delaney tried to check on Dreamer down on the mat but was close to the ropes. Knox reached through the ropes and slapped Delaney on the head, then went out of the ring and whipped him to the steel steps. Dreamer saw the attack and did a slide dropkick to knock Knox down.

As Dreamer was looking at Delaney ringside, Knox hit Dreamer then rammed him to the ringpost. Back in the ring, Knox continued the onslaught with a vicious slam to gain the pinfall victory.

Winner: Mike Knox wins via pinfall over Tommy Dreamer.

Matt Striker's Classrom w/Mick Foley

Striker told the crowd that Spring break's over so they need to be taught. Striker asked the audience to welcome the newest addition to the Smackdown booth, Mick Foley. Striker told Mick that he put together a little lesson for him tonight. Foley reminded Striker he has two #1 bestseller books on the New York Times, as well as a close relationship with Katie Couric. Striker then told Foley he has a face more suited for radio than TV. Matt then began to insult Foley's physical appearance more, discussing his missing teeth, hairstyle, and scars. Foley told Striker that it means he sacrificed a lot in order to entertain the fans.

Foley called Striker a "pretty boy" and said he's never entertained anyone. Striker continued to try to insult Foley's intelligence as well as his sweat pants. Foley eventually dug into his pants and pulled out Mr. Socko. After distracting Striker by pretending he saw an author in the audience, Mick shoved Mr. Socko down Striker's throat and dropped him to the mat. Foley finished with "have a nice day!" then tossed Mr. Socko over at Mike Adamle. Adamle joked "a lot of people would want me to keep this in my mouth".

CM Punk vs. Chuck Palumbo

Punk and Palumbo got right in each other's faces before the bell. As the bell sounded, Chuck forced Punk to the corner, but Punk soon escaped. The two men grappled again, with Palumbo taking Punk back to the corner. Punk ducked under the rope to break things up. Back in the center of the ring, Chuck went on the offensive, hammering down on Punk, then slamming him to the mat. Punk recovered to deliver several roundkicks to Palumbo's head. Chuck whipped Punk to the corner, then caught a boot, but was able to clothesline CM down.

Chuck continued to attack with a vicious slam on Punk then knees to his back. Palumbo seemed in control after a hard right hand punch to Punk's face. With Punk down in the corner, Chuck continued to hammer away. The ref kept warning Palumbo to stop, but since he wouldn't, the ref called for the bell.

Afterwards, Punk went at Chuck and tried to bulldog him from the corner. Palumbo recovered and tossed Punk to the middle of the ring, then clotheslined him down.

Winner: CM Punk wins due to disqualification of Chuck Palumbo.

Tazz and Mike Adamle discussed last night's Raw with the abrupt ending of the main event. William Regal felt disrespected during his official coronation ceremony by Mr. Kennedy, so later on he ordered the plug to be pulled on Raw. The match between Randy Orton and Triple H went completely dark, with only Jim Ross' commentary heard as Raw ended. No clear winner or end to the match was shown.

Tazz and Mike Adamle reported that next week ECW will see Tommy Dreamer vs. Mike Knox in an extreme rules match. In addition, Colin Delaney will have his WWE contract on the line.

Chavo Guerrero & Bam Neely vs. Kane

Before Kane arrived to the ring, Tazz started asking his commentary partner Mike Adamle "Where are you going?" Adamle was shown removing his headset then walking off towards the audience. Tazz was left standing alone at the commentary table seeming confused. Right before the bell, Tazz was shown leaving his position as well after pointing out to ask someone where Adamle exited. There were no commentators present for the main event match.

Kane started off against Chavo throwing punches at him and a dropkick. Kane pressed Chavo overhead then slammed him to the mat, with Bam Neely looking on from the apron. Kane charged at Chavo in the corner, with Chavo moving aside. At one point, Kane came at Chavo near the ropes. Bam Neely pulled Chavo by his leg out of the ring. "ECW Continues" was shown on the screen as the show went to commercial.

When ECW returned, Chavo slid underneath Kane to avoid a boot. Bam Neely tagged in to face Kane. Kane began to kick Neely and hammer away after chuckling at him. Kane knocked Chavo off the apron, but this moment allowed Neely to recover enough to gain momentum. Bam began to pound away on Kane in the corner, then tagged Chavo back in. Kane gained control of things, tossing Chavo out of the ring, then back in. Kane went to re-enter, but with the ref distracted by Chavo, Bam Neely yanked Kane off the apron. Chavo took the opportunity to attack Kane's now injured leg.

Chavo and Neely seemed in control as they worked over Kane's hurt knee, tagging each other in and out. Kane tried to lift Chavo up to get out of the corner, but his leg gave out and Kane fell to the mat. Chavo approached the fallen Kane who sat right up, startling Guerrero. Kane managed to get Chavo down for a pin, but Bam Neely came in to break it up. Neely tagged in, but Kane gained control, eventually using a running clothesline, then sideslam. Kane went to the corner ropes and hit a flying clothesline. Chavo was hanging over the ropes so Kane tossed him into the ring. Just then Bam Neely ran over and kicked Kane down. A tag was made to Chavo who executed the Frogsplash from the corner to win it.

Winner: Bam Neely & Chavo Guerrero win via pinfall over Kane.

ECW came to a close with Bam Neely and Chavo at the bottom of the ramp celebrating, with Kane down in the ring looking back at them angrily. No commentary was heard to close out the show as Tazz and Mike Adamle had left their positions at the table.
