2008 Backlash PPV Results

The 2008 Backlash Pay-Per-View is now official. At the latest WWE event, several titles were on the line including the US Championship, ECW title, World Heavyweight title and WWE title. There was also a battle between two of the biggest wrestlers in the WWE, 12 of the lovely divas and a heated match between two good friends of Ric Flair. Here's a look at the match by match results with recaps!

Matt Hardy vs MVP
US Championship

In this long awaited and much anticipated matchup, Matt Hardy finally got his opportunity, and made the best of it. Towards the end of the match, the cocky champ MVP had Hardy down and continued to taunt and kick him with boots to the skull. MVP charged at Matt in the corner for yet another big boot, but Matt moved causing MVP to hit the turnbuckle. After a quick Twist of Fate, Matt Hardy pinned MVP to become the new US champion!

Winner: Matt Hardy wins via pinfall to become the new US Champ!

Chavo Guerrero vs Kane

In this rematch from Wrestlemania 24, this time Chavo brought backup to the ring in the form of Bam Neely. Chavo didn't appear to need Neely's help and seemed to have things under control as the match was coming to a close. After a spinning DDT, and a headbutt to Kane on the corner ropes, Chavo had Kane down on the mat. He flew off the corner for the Frogsplash to finish, but Kane grabbed him with the chokeslam, then pinned Chavo for the win!

Winner: Kane wins by pinfall to retain the ECW title.

Big Show vs Great Khali

In the early part of the match, the two behemoths battled back and forth with headbutts and chops to one other. Khali finally got Show to the mat, and attempted several submission holds. Big Show continued to fight back and was able to hit a scoop slam. After kicking out of a pin by Big Show, Khali went for the Khali Bomb. Big Show countered the move then hit a massive Chokeslam to finish off Khali.

Winner: Big Show wins via pinfall over The Great Khali.

Shawn Michaels vs Batista
Special Ref: Chris Jericho

The match featured the quickness of Michaels against the power of Batista, with the Intercontinental champ Y2J as their referee. In a hard fought matchup, both men gave it their all, going back and forth. Michaels was nearly Batista Bombed but then pulled a page out of Ric Flair's playbook, faking a knee injury. Referee Chris Jericho backed Batista away from Michaels twice, and finally HBK got up to deliver Sweet Chin Music. WIth Batista down, HBK picks up the pinfall victory!

Winner: Shawn Michaels wins via pinfall over Batista.

12 Diva Tag Team Match

In this contest, the face divas (Mickie James, Maria, Ashley, Michelle McCool, Cherry, & Kelly Kelly) went up against the heel divas (Beth Phoenix, Melina, Jillian Hall, Layla, Victoria, & Natalya). The action became fast and furious with all of the divas getting involved in the match. It eventually came down to Ashley and Beth Phoenix in the ring. Beth used her patented Fishermen's Suplex to finish off Ashley for the win.

Winners: Beth Phoenix, Melina, Jillian Hall, Layla, Victoria, & Natalya win by pinfall.

Edge vs Undertaker
World Heavyweight Title

In another rematch from Wrestlemania 24, the Rated-R Superstar Edge tried to regain his lost title from the Undertaker. In this match, Edge and his crew tried their best to defeat the Undertaker. Undertaker went for the Tombstone but Edge tore the turnbuckle cover off, causing the referee to become distracted. While the ref re-fastened the turnbuckle cover, Taker knocked down Edge.

Curt Hawkins entered the ring and hit Undertaker with his own title belt, but Edge could only manage a 2 count. Undertaker tried to finish off Edge again with a chokeslam, but Zack Ryder climbed onto the apron. After Undertaker knocked Ryder off the apron, Edge tries to capture a surprise pinfall. Undertaker countered Edge's attempt using his Triangle Choke, forcing Edge to tap. Undertaker left the hold on after the bell and blood dripped from Edge's mouth. Vickie Guerrero and Teddy Long came to ringside to check on Edge.

Winner: Undertaker wins via pinfall over Edge to retain the World Heavyweight title.

Fatal Fourway Elimination
WWE Title match

In this contest for Randy Orton's WWE title, John Cena, JBL and Triple H were all competing. The winner and WWE title holder would be the last man in the ring after 3 others were eliminated. The action became an all out war, with HHH attempting to Pedigree John Cena. Cena countered and tossed HHH out of the ring, then locked the STFU on JBL. JBL soon tapped out, becoming the first man eliminated. Randy Orton took the quick opportunity to deliver a boot to Cena's head, then picked up a pinfall. With Cena eliminated second, it came down to Triple H vs. Randy Orton for the title.

In what seemed like deja vu from their previous Last Man Standing title bout, Orton and Hunter began to fight outside the ring. The action went near the announcers table and even over the crowd barrier. Eventually the two men were back into the ring and Orton seemed to gain the upperhand for the RKO. HHH countered the move and came to life, but the two men spilled out of the ring again. As they returned to the ring yet again, Orton finally hit the RKO, but only scored a 2 count. After an attempted kick on a fallen HHH, Orton tried for yet another RKO. HHH countered and hit the Pedigree, then collected the pinfall on Orton. Triple H is your new WWE Champion!

Winner: Triple H wins via pinfall over Randy Orton to become the new WWE champion.

Congratulations to all of the winners from Backlash, including the two newest champions, Matt Hardy and Triple H as they have won the US and WWE titles respectively! Be sure to catch Monday night Raw on USA for all the after effects from this Sunday's Pay Per View!
