Smackdown Recap 06.13.08

Smackdown recap from Fresno State University:

Smackdown opened with Vickie Guerrero in the ring seated at a table with paperwork. Vickie welcome everyone to the official signing of the contract for the World Heavyweight championship match. Vickie introduced Batista as the challenger, and the Animal came to the ring. Vickie told Batista she is looking forward to Batista facing the greatest champion ever, Edge. Vickie went on to tell Batista that Edge already signed the contract earlier. Vickie signed her name on it next, then informed Batista that even though his lawyer looked at it earlier, Vickie has made some amendments. Vickie told Batista she added that he needs to beat the Great Khali in a match tonight to still be #1 contender. Batista signed the contract saying he can't wait to beat Edge at Night of Champions. As Batista was walking up the ramp, Vickie got on the mic again and informed Batista that if he loses he's banished from WWE. Batista looked irate on the ramp as he was given Vickie's latest stipulation.

Finlay vs. John Morrison

Footage shown from backstage where Hornswoggle went up to Miz & Morrison. They started to taunt Hornswoggle asking what he wanted. Just then, Finlay showed up and tapped each of their Tag team belts with his shilaleigh, putting the champs on notice.

During tonight's back and forth match, both Finlay and Morrison were in control. Finlay gained serious momentum and was working on finishing off Morrison. Miz provided distraction outside the ring by lifting the apron cover and grabbing Hornswoggle. As Finlay went near the ropes to see what was going on, Morrison took advantage and pulled Finlay back, rolling him up for the pin.

Winner: John Morrison wins via pinfall over Finlay.

Footage was shown of Batista's 2005 Royal Rumble victory. The match came down to he and John Cena, with Batista able to throw Cena over the top rope to win it.

Backstage, Eve Torres interviewed Edge about Batista's match with Khali tonight. Edge played it up saying he hopes Batista wins so he can face a great wrestler who he's beaten before. Just then, CM Punk showed up and again put Edge on notice that he can cash in for a title shot at any moment, maybe even Edge's wedding in a few weeks.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Mark Henry

A backstage video was shown of Mark Henry demonstrating what he will do to Big Show. Henry had a blown up face shot of Big Show with his black eye, then turned it around to show Big Show with 2 black eyes.

In his match against Dreamer, the World's Strongest Man displayed dominance as he beat Dreamer around the ring. Dreamer tried to gain momentum and went to DDT Henry, but couldn't get the strength to. Henry withstood the attack and picked up Dreamer to powerslam him down to the mat. Henry took the pin then kicked Dreamer around a bit.

Winner: Mark Henry wins via pinfall over Tommy Dreamer.

Back in her office, Vickie was shown discussing wedding plans with another woman. Edge rushed in to complain about CM Punk's earlier comments. Vickie introduced Edge to Alicia Fox, their wedding planner. Just then, MVP came in and told Vickie he wants to renegotiate his contract. Edge and MVP got in a brief argument about who's the best superstar on Smackdown. Vickie told MVP she'll redo his contract, but only if he helps them out. Vickie told MVP to take care of CM Punk in the ring tonight, since Punks's been an issue for Edge for a while now. MVP agreed and reminded them he wants a better contract deal.

Raw Rewind covered the Golden Dreams diva match from last week's Smackdown. ECW & Smackdown divas competed in an all out brawl to retrieve a golden star hanging up in the corner. The winner was Natalya who will be one of two competitors for a brand new diva's championship.

Cherry vs. Maryse

Prior to the match, Michael Cole said Vickie Guerrero will be scheduling matches to see who the other diva contender will be. Weeks ago, Cherry was kicked out of the Deuce & Domino stable, and Maryse was her replacement. Three weeks ago, Maryse was able to deliver a serious kick, kneeing Cherry in the face to knock her down for a pin. Tonight, Maryse seemed to be in control of the match as she rammed Cherry into the corners and used a chin lock on her several times. Cherry finally gained enough momentum to grab Maryse in a hammerlock. Cherry DDT's Maryse face first to the mat from here then took the pinfall.

Winner: Cherry wins via pinfall over Maryse.

A highlight reel was shwon about the Great Khali's powerful nature as he dominated various opponents in the ring.

MVP shown walking backstage on his way out for the next match.

CM Punk vs. MVP

In an impromptu match, the cocky MVP took on Mr. Money in the Bank as a favor for Vickie and Edge. During the match, MVP exploited a shoulder injury by CM Punk. MVP repeatedly rammed Punk shoulder first to the corner and used holds to try to wear him down. Punk regained momentum briefly, then MVP was back in control. MVP went to the corner and took off the turnbuckle cover. MVP made sure the ref saw the cover as he threw it on the mat. As the ref went to fix the corner, MVP grabbed Punk's briefcase in the corner. MVP was ready to use it, but Punk got to his feet and ran at MVP, kneeing him hard with the case. MVP fell to the mat, and Punk grabbed the briefcase. As the ref turned, he saw MVP down and Punk holding the briefcase. The ref immediately called for the bell to DQ Punk.

Winner: MVP wins due to disqualification of CM Punk.

One Night Stand highlights were shown from the World Heavyweight title Tables, Ladders & Chairs match. Edge was able to climb the ladder thanks to help from La Familia. The win gave Edge the title for his 5th time, and banished Undertaker from WWE, forever.

As Smackdown returned from commercial, Chavo Guerrero was in the ring with Bam Neely. On the mic, Chavo announced he will be facing Matt Hardy for the US Championship at Night of Champions. Matt Hardy came to the ring, and Chavo ducked out. Next, Chuck Palumbo's music hit and Chuck rode his motorcycle down to the ring.

Matt Hardy vs. Chuck Palumbo

In a tough match, Matt was able to gain control of Chuck despite the distraction of Chavo and Bam Neely looking on. Matt hit the Side Effect on Chuck and went for the pin, with Chuck kicking out. As Chuck was still staggering, Matt climbed the corner ropes and jumped down to elbow Chuck on the back of his head. Chuck was still stunned and Matt delivered the Twist of Fate to gain the pinfall victory. Chavo played the role of announcer and declared Matt the winner, but "loser of the US title at Night of Champions".

Winner: Matt Hardy wins via pinfall over Chuck Palumbo.

Highlight shown from Wrestlemania 2005, where it was Batista facing Triple H for the World Heavyweight title. Triple H seemed to be in control until Batista flipped him over his back, then later delivered the Batista Bomb to win the title for his 1st time.

Michael Cole & Mick Foley introduced highlights from Raw of Million Dollar Mania. During Raw, Mr. McMahon phoned random viewers and asked for the correct password. Winners received anywhere from $2 all the way up to $250,000. Photos were shown of the various prize winners and their families. After the footage, Cole reminded fans to head to WWE.com to register for their chance to win this coming Monday.

Backstage, Eve Torres tried to interview Russian superstar, Vladimir Kozlov. Eve asked Kozlov how he feels about his competition getting tougher as he keeps winning. Kozlov answered speaking only in Russian, then said "thank you" before leaving.

Highlights shown of Batista at Survivor Series 2006. The match was Batista facing King Booker for the World Heavyweight title. Queen Sharmelle tried to provide distraction so Booker could grab the belt as a weapon. As Booker ran at Batista with the belt, Batista ducked and was able to slam Booker down for the win to regain his title.

Deuce & Domino vs. Jesse & Festus

In the tag team clash, Deuce and Domino did their best to keep Jesse from tagging his partner. Jesse finally managed to escape and jumped over to tag in Festus. Festus became enraged in he ring, taking out his frustrations on Domino. Festus knocked Domino around the ring a bit, then knocked Deuce down. Festus finished off Domino with the running splash to sit on his opponent and pin him.

After Jesse & Festus had exited up the ramp victorious, Deuce began to confront Domino. Domino took exception to Deuce's comments and knocked him down with a punch. The two partners began to brawl on the mat for a short while. Finally Domino rolled out of the ring, then walked up the ramp pointing angrily at his partner still in the ring.

Winners: Jesse & Festus win via pinfall over Deuce & Domino.

Highlights shown from a September 2007 Smackdown match between Great Khali and Batista. Khali had applied the tight grip with both hands on Batista's skull. The footage showed Khali squeezing the life out of Khali to demonstrate what may happen tonight.

Batista vs. Great Khali

Vickie and Edge came to the top of the ramp to watch the main event. Khali seemed to dominate a good bit of the match, with Batista able to withstand the punishment. At one point, Khali went for the huge chop to try to level Batista. Batista blocked the chop and caught Khali's massive hand with both of his. Batista fought his way out then gained momentum off the ropes. Batista was able to land a spear from off the ropes to take down Khali, and score the pinfall victory. After winning, Batista started up the ramp at his future opponent, Edge.

Winner: Batista wins via pinfall over Great Khali.
