ECW Recap 11.04.08

ECW Recap from Orlando, FL:

Bam Neely vs. Matt Hardy

Neely used his brawling style to take control and attempted a standing suplex on the champ. Hardy used his weight to escape it from the air, landing on his feet, then reversed into a neckbreaker. From here Matt began to gain momentum, hitting an elbow to the back of Neely's head, DDT's and more attacks. Hardy couldn't capture a pinfall and went to the top of the turnbuckle. Neely followed him up and eventually suplexed Matt off. Neely thought he had it won, as he picked up Matt and tried to ram him into the corner. Matt used his foot to prevent it and then turned it into a Twist of Fate for the win!

After the match, Finlay & Hornswoggle came down the ramp to see Hardy in the ring.

Winner: Matt Hardy wins by pinfall over Bam Neely.

When ECW returned, Finlay was with Hornswoggle in the ring to talk to Matt Hardy. Finlay told Matt it's about time they fought one-on-one for the ECW title, since Matt's defeated just about everyone else. As Matt was about to accept the challenge, Mark Henry and Tony Atlas came out to the ramp to interrupt. Henry said there's no way Finlay can just come out and get a title shot. The two exchanged words with Henry claiming Finlay's never defeated him. Just then, ECW GM Teddy Long came out to the ramp to intervene. Long said that Matt will defend his ECW title next week against whoever wins tonight's main event of Mark Henry vs. Finlay.

Matt Striker and Todd Grisham went over the features of the new Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 video game.

Ricky Ortiz vs. Jon Davis

Ortiz tried to add another victory to his ECW resume against amateur wrestler Jon Davis. In the match, Davis tried to suplex Ortiz, but Ortiz eventually countered with a suplex of his own. Ortiz went off the second turnbuckle and flew shoulder first into Davis, knocking him to the mat. Ortiz finished off his opponent with the Big O splash.

Winner: Ricky Ortiz wins via pinfall over Jon Davis.

Matt Striker and Todd Grisham went over Evan Bourne's unfortunate injury during last week's Six Man tag match. Bourne did a flip off the ropes onto Bam Neely on the outside, but Bourne landed badly on his foot. The injury was originally thought to be a dislocated ankle, but later revealed torn deltoid muscles. Bourne will be out at least 4 months and may need surgery as well.

Jack Swagger came to the ring which had a trashcan, Singapore cane and table in it. Swagger began to disrespect the career of Tommy Dreamer, as he went over his history in ECW. Swagger then turned his attention to Tommy's wife, Beulah, saying that she should realize her husband is a failure. Swagger said Dreamer's kids can look up to Jack Swagger if they need a role model. All of a sudden, Dreamer came charging down the ramp and into the ring. Swagger rushed at him with the trash can, but Tommy kicked him in the gut. Dreamer grabbed the Singapore Cane and cracked it over Swagger's back causing him to jump out of the ring. Dreamer waited in the ring calling Swagger to come fight, but Swagger stayed on the outside.

Todd Grisham reviewed last night's Raw episode celebrating 800 episodes for the TV show. The highlight was the steel cage World Heavyweight title match between Batista & Chris Jericho. Batista used the power game early to slam and beat Jericho around the inner cage. Jericho capitalized on a knee injury to Batista, and at one point was using part of the steel cage cable system to hit Batista in the forehead repeatedly. Batista was bloodied up and unable to stop Jericho from escaping the cage. Jericho will now defend the title against John Cena at Survivor Series in Boston, MA.

Finlay vs. Mark Henry
#1 Contender's Match

The winner of this match goes on to face Matt Hardy for the ECW title next week. At one point in the match, Hornswoggle got involved and Henry chased him around the ring. Finlay came to the outside and leapgfrogged Hornswoggle then jumped at Mark Henry. Henry caught him in a bear hug and slammed him against the ringpost. After tossing Finlay back in the ring, Henry put Hornswoggle in the ring as well. Henry prepared to splash onto both men and came off the ropes. Hornswoggle and Finlay managed to roll out of the way safely and Henry splashed down onto the mat. As the ref tried to make sure Hornswoggle got out of the ring, Finlay waited for Mark Henry to sit up and clocked him over the head with the shilaleigh. The ref turned back as Finlay was crawling over to make the winning pinfall.

Winner: Finlay wins by pinfall over Mark Henry to become #1 Contender for the ECW title.
