ECW Recap 11.18.08

ECW Recap from Atlanta, GA:

Todd Grisham reminded fans we are just days away from Survivor Series 08'. The Miz and John Morrison made their way to the ring in street clothes. The Miz and Morrison broke down their team, captained by JBL. Miz said JBL is a former WWE champ and is thriving economically despite a bad economy. Morrison brought up MVP who is the highest paid superstar and longest reigning US champ in Smackdown history. Miz and Morrison brought up Kane briefly but due to his violent nature stopped discussing him. They added that those 3 wrestlers have the privilege of teaming up with them.

Miz and Morrison then discussed each of their opponents in the SS match. Miz and Morrison mocked Khali and Mysterio, saying their average height together is really 6 feet tall, hardly imposing. They brought up Cryme Tyme, insulting them as well, then Shawn Michaels. Morrison said they want HBK to be the final man facing them in the match, so he will see that he's now only a stepping stone for Miz & Morrison's legendary careers. Miz and Morrison ended with their "Be Jealous!"

After the Miz/Morrison segment, Striker announced a main event of Finlay, Kofi Kingston & Matt Hardy facing Mark Henry, Cody Rhodes & William Regal in a Six Man tag match.

Sal Renaro vs. DJ Gabriel

DJ Gabriel made his ECW debut accompanied by former wedding planner for Edge/Vickie, Alicia Fox. Gabriel danced his way down the ramp and into the ring with Fox, but was not welcomed by fans.

As for the match, Gabriel was impressive early with an armbar takedown and locked in hold on the arm of his opponent. Gabriel continued to use forearm uppercuts. Renaro tried to elbow his way out of the corner, but Gabriel recovered quickly. Gabriel stunned his opponent then sat on the turnbuckle. Gabriel leapt off from the second rope to deliver a European uppercut to his opponent.

Winner: DJ Gabriel wins via pinfall over Sal Renaro.

The cocky young superstar, Jack Swagger, was shown walking backstage, all smiles, on his way out to face Tommy Dreamer.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Jack Swagger
Amateur Wrestling Challenge

The rules of this "Jack Swagger All-American Challenge were the first man to score the first pinfall or to score the most points after 5 minutes would be declared winner. Highlights were shown from 3 weeks ago when Swagger beat Dreamer in a normal one-on-one contest. Tonight would be Dreamer's challenge, but Swagger's selected match.

Early on, Swagger scored a 2 point takedown on Dreamer within 20 seconds. Swagger scored another takedown for 2 points, making it 4-0, then let Dreamer escape which gave Dreamer a point. A Matt Striker mentioned it seamed Swagger was toying with Dreamer. Dreamer got another point for an escape, after Swagger scored another takedown. Swagger started to act cocky, throwing away his mouthpiece, then taking off his headgear to taunt Dreamer. While Swagger looked away for a brief second, Dreamer rushed over and tackled him down for a takedown.

Swagger recovered with another takedown on Dreamer, and began taunting him down on the mat. Swagger taunted even more, by getting down on the mat on all 4's so Dreamer could attempt a takedown for free. Dreamer looked out at the crowd contemplating what to do, then delivered a serious kick to Swagger's midsection. The ref called for the bell, disqualifying Dreamer and awarding Swagger the win. Dreamer left the ring and grabbed the mic saying "My bad, you win".

Winner: Jack Swagger wins due to disqualification of Tommy Dreamer.

Todd Grisham introduced footage of Cena's return from his injury to fight in his hometown of Boston, MA for Survivor Series. Triple H, Rey Mysterio, Marc Ecko, Rob Macintyre were amongst those giving comments about Cena's return to fight for the title.

Jack Swagger burst into the back office where Ricky Ortiz was sitting on a couch talking to Teddy's assistant, Tiffany. Swagger demanded to speak to Teddy Long, then asked if Tiffany saw what happened to him out there. Tiffany said she didn't and Swagger began insulting her. Ortiz stepped in warning Swagger to watch how he was speaking to Tiffany. The two continued to argue until Teddy showed up. Swagger demanded a rematch with Dreamer for next week. Teddy agreed but on one condition. The match will be on Dreamer's terms this time, an Extreme Rules Match.

After Striker and Grisham ran down the various matches for Survivor Series, Striker demonstrated the Orton vs. Batista team match for the event. Striker used a chalkboard to show the crowd how conceivably Mark Henry could eliminate Batista's 4 partners, making it a 5 on 1 match against Batista. Just as Striker finished his discussion, Mark Henry and Tony Atlas made their way down to the ring for the main event.

Kofi Kingston, Finlay & Matt Hardy vs. Cody Rhodes, William Regal & Mark Henry

After Regal and Rhodes arrived, next came Kofi Kingston followed by Finlay & Hornswoggle. Finally, Matt Hardy made his way out to the ring.

In the main event tag match, Hardy got the crowd riled up early as Finlay started against Regal. Regal broke out of a Finlay headlock, but Finlay flipped him to the mat. Rhodes tagged in to face Finlay next, with Finlay putting an arm hold on, then tagging in Hardy. Rhodes escaped a quick pinfall attempt from Hardy, then Matt went over and punched Henry in the face. Henry and Regal got in the ring as did Kingston and Finlay. ECW went to a commercial break as the men faced off and the ref tried to maintain order.

ECW returned as Kofi Kingston dropped Rhodes. Rhodes was able to escape and tag in Regal. Kingston held onto Regal's arm to tag Finlay back in. Finlay and Regal brawled on the mat. Finlay had Regal down and went to sit on the turnbuckle. Regal was quickly up and shoved Finlay off, causing Finlay to fall onto the apron and floor, injuring his shoulder. Rhodes tagged in and continued punishing Finlay and his injury. Finlay tried to fight with Rhodes on the mat, but Rhodes managed to get his way over and tag Henry in. Henry beat on Finlay down on the mat. Finlay began battling back against Henry with punches, but came off the ropes to meet a Mark Henry boot. Regal tagged in again and continued to use submission holds to wear down Finlay.

Regal had a legit pinfall on Finlay, but Hardy jumped in to break it up. An angry Regal hit Matt from behind as he was walking back to the apron, and Matt fell to the outside. Rhodes tagged in, but Finlay was up fast and leveled him with a clothesline. Finlay was still out of it but managed to crawl over towards Kingston and tag him in. Kingston exploded in the ring as he took out Rhodes with all sorts of offensive maneuvers including his double leg drop. Kofi had the pin, but Regal quickly got in and broke it up. Matt Hardy was back in the ring to knock Regal down. The two went to the outside, leaving Rhodes vs. Kingston. Kingston seemed in control as he hit Rhodes. Rhodes staggered back near the ropes and Mark Henry slapped his back for a tag. Henry went in and was able to eventually catch Kofi trying to jump off the corner turnbuckle. Henry turned it into a World's Strongest Slam for the pinfall victory.

Winners: Mark Henry, Cody Rhodes & William Regal win via pinfall over Matt Hardy, Kofi Kingston & Finlay.
