Orton's Raw Rampage

Last night's WWE Raw program saw the highly-anticipated return of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. It had been just six months ago the chairman was last seen during the last installment of the McMahon's Millions giveaway. Right after Vince gave away a nice lump sum of $500,000 to a lucky fan, the Raw set conveniently collapsed all around and on top of Mr. McMahon. WWE Superstars and staff rushed over to try to help out, and Mr. McMahon was taken away by stretcher. It's almost becoming routine now for Vince to be blown up, crushed or most recently "punted" in the head as his grand send-off.

Last night saw Vince return to announce that he and Stephanie will be co-GM's for the Raw program. Apparently Papa McMahon is pleased with the job his daughter's doing. He even smiled proudly as Steph forced Chris Jericho to grovel in the ring to keep his job on Raw. Jericho seemed one step away from joining the "Mr. McMahon Kiss My Ass" club as he got down on his knees and even made his best attempt at a public apology to the WWE Universe. What we saw from there was an apparent shift of "heel power" on the Raw landscape. As a humbled Jericho did the walk of shame backstage, fans lamented him, letting him know exactly how they felt about his constant berating remarks. Just as Jericho headed backstage, it was a fuming Randy Orton who emerged and made his way to the ring.

Orton of course had been slapped earlier in the evening by GM Stephanie. He came to the ring demanding she apologize and even added his own disparaging remarks about her "babymaking abilities". He then asked Mr. McMahon to order his daughter to apologize for what she had done. Stephanie was ready to slap Orton yet again, but Vince held her off, sending her backstage. From there it was a classic power struggle between Mr. McMahon and Randy Orton. Orton refused to give in and Mr. McMahon demanded an apology. After a staredown, Vince prepared to utter his classic "You're Fired" line, but it was Randy Orton who stopped him short, then went on a serious episode of ring rage. Orton clocked Vince then kicked him, and delivered a vicious punt kick to his head. The move required Vince be taken away on a stretcher with Stephanie crying for her father to speak to her.

Last night was a serious case of Deja Vu, another strange tragedy to garner attention for Vince and maybe give him more time off the air. At the same time was this a set up for a future Wrestlemania matchup between Vince and Orton? Or will Vince or Steph somehow get involved in a future Orton match, preventing his victory? Perhaps Orton wins the Rumble, but has the title opportunity stripped by an angry Stephanie McMahon. WWE also may be setting the pathway towards a Cena vs. Orton Wrestlemania contest once again. Either way we saw a serious heel push for Randy Orton with the kick he delivered last night, just as Chris Jericho was sent scampering backstage. Orton was a heel for some time, but last night's incident made him that much more of one, a powerful, monstrous entity on Raw. With Orton's "Legacy" group behind him it seems as if this new stable will be a force to be reckoned with and give Cena plus the rest of Raw serious trouble.
