Rumble Update & Jericho Firing

More than half the field has now been named for the 2009 Royal Rumble Match. The most recent wrestlers added: Carlito, R-Truth, The Brian Kendrick, The Miz, John Morrison, Cody Rhodes, Ted Dibiase, Santino Marella and Kane. With 17 names announced so far, there's only 2 ECW stars in the field so far, making it look less than likely that an ECW star will win it. The only exception may be Tommy Dreamer who has vowed to retire if he can't win the ECW title by June 09'.

With 13 spots left here's 13 more who may find their way into the match: Finlay, Kizarny, Boogeyman, Umaga, Mike Knox, MVP, Dolph Ziggler, DJ Gabriel, Paul Burchill, Shad and JTG of Cryme Tyme, Tommy Dreamer, and possibly William Regal/CM Punk. The WWE may leave the "surprise factor" open by not announcing the final 2,3 or even 5 participants. This could leave the door open for a surprise entry from Batista (if he's able) or Christian (if he's signed and ready), or Shawn Michaels. Michaels is a former back-to-back winner and a third win would tie Stone Cold Steve Austin's record of 3 Royal Rumble victories.

In a side note, a rematch between Matt Hardy and Jack Swagger for the ECW title has been added to the Pay-Per-View card.

This coming Monday's Raw will feature WWE Chairman Vince McMahon returning to Raw (in case you missed the promotional videos after each segment of each TV show last week). Chris Jericho was fired last week after he pushed current Raw GM Stephanie McMahon too far. Stephanie flexed her power and sent Jericho out of the arena, jobless. Prior to that Jericho claimed that nothing Stephanie had to say mattered because Vince will be returning to set things straight. So will Vince back his daughter or support Jericho's case on Monday night? One of the two individuals will probably be off Raw after Monday, but that all depends on if Vince is staying or just passing by to commend his daughter's efforts.

Jericho could easily be moved over to Smackdown to become another viable opponent for Jeff Hardy or a possible contender for the United States Title picture. Jericho seems to have been pushed out of the World Heavyweight Title picture and maybe it's time to chase the WWE belt again. A move to ECW would be very unlikely for him and downright insulting as many consider the move a demotion. Come Monday it'll be seen if Jericho holds onto his spot on Raw or moves on.
