Smackdown Preview 01.16.09

Last week WWE fans learned on Smackdown that current WWE Champion, Jeff Hardy had been involved in a hit-and-run car accident. A police video recording was revealed with Jeff and girlfriend Beth talking to an officer about what happened. Luckily nobody was seriously hurt in the accident, and Jeff Hardy has claimed he will return to Smackdown. In addition, Hardy has vowed he will still defend his WWE Title against Edge at the Royal Rumble, despite the accident. The questions continue to circulate around this incident though, especially the question of who was behind the crash. On Tonight's show, the Rated-R Superstar Edge has invited Jeff Hardy to be his guest on "The Cutting Edge". Will Jeff and the WWE Universe learn if a WWE Superstar was the other driver, or will this incident remain a mystery? Will Hardy be 100% as he returns to try to defend his title at the Rumble?

Triple H also had a rough time of it last week as he was forced to compete in three matches during one night. Smackdown General Manager Vickie Guerrero became infuriated after HHH continually insulted her weight, then revealed that there were nude pictures of Vickie selling on eBay. The GM ordered Triple H to compete in a "Triple Jeopardy" situation last week, which had The Game fighting in a Tables Match against John Morrison, a Handicap Match against The Miz & Chavo Guerrero, and finally a Last Man Standing Match versus the Big Show. HHH was able to survive matches 1 and 2, but by the Last Man Standing Match he seemed to be on his last leg. Big Show was able to Chokeslam Triple H and then deliver a KO punch leaving The Game down for the count. Despite the loss, Triple H still has a spot in the Royal Rumble. The Big Show will also be a part of the 30 man match. Will these two superstars collide yet again before the big event?

The WWE Divas division also continues to heat up on Smackdown. Right now the WWE Divas Championships rests securely around the waist of Maryse. Despite an injury at a WWE house show shortly after winning the title, Maryse did not have to vacate her title. Meanwhile, divas Michelle McCool and Maria continue to have their differences, and the Bella Twins continue their winning ways. The biggest story of them all will be WWE Diva Victoria, who will battle Michelle McCool tonight. Victoria has informed the WWE Universe that this will in fact be her final wrestling match. The longtime diva plans to retire following the match, putting the cap on one of the all-time great WWE diva careers. Will Victoria be victorious in her final contest, or will Michelle spoil her retirement party?

Several superstars on Smackdown will also continue to prepare themselves for the 2009 Royal Rumble. Catch all the action of Smackdown Friday night at 8PM EST on MyNetworkTV!

Huh .... what's this about one of the all-time great divas, Victoria has been used as a freaken jobber for about 3 yrs, during which time she has won maybe two or three matches; would anyone really expect she beat the former champion

Victoria qualifies as an all-time great due to the fact she won the WWE Women's Championship just four months into her career, and held that Women's title twice. Her career as a true wrestling diva spanned from 2002-2009. I'd say that's not too shabby, when there's some divas who don't even wrestle these days :)

I hear you about Victoria's career. I disliked but greatly admired the woman who arrived and held her own trading victories feuding w/ Trish

but if WWE had any respect for her, dont ya think they would have had some victories for her scheduled in the final months. I believe her last victory was vs Torrie maybe two years ago

unfortunately we are most remembered by what we have done recently and that says something about what WWE thinks of her
