Wrestlemania 25 - What's Left?

So far there are a total of 5 Wrestlemania 25 matches, with WWE likely to add at least 3-4 more in the coming weeks before the event. Chris Jericho still needs a legendary opponent. Whether it be Ric Flair or someone else remains to be seen on the March 16th edition of Raw. At this point, Jericho's possible opponent looks to be either Ric Flair, Roddy Piper, Hulk Hogan or Stone Cold, with the latter two less likely. There's also been speculation that Jerry Lawler will enter the ring at Mania for his first time, to take on Flair. There's a handful of stars with no match or current story to put them into Wrestlemania: Evan Bourne, Mr. Kennedy (maybe), Tommy Dreamer, Umaga, Vladimir Kozlov, R-Truth, Brian Kendrick, Ezekiel Jackson, Rey Mysterio, Mike Knox, Chavo Guerrero, Paul Burchill, Santino Marella, Dolph Ziggler, Charlie Haas, Goldust, Jamie Noble, DJ Gabriel, Tyson Kidd, Boogeyman,. While not all of them are major stars, what to do with all these guys? Surely they'd want to be a part of the biggest Wrestlemania yet. Another 25 person battle royal is starting to seem like the only solution...

We also have title holders with no challengers or opponents: ECW Champion Jack Swagger; new Intercontinental Champ, JBL; United States Champion, Shelton Benjamin; both sets of tag team champs: The Miz/John Morrison and The Colons.

We all saw CM Punk drop his IC title to JBL right before Wrestlemania. This sets up some sort of potential IC title match at Wrestlemania. Vickie Guerrero mentioned needing a favor from JBL in return for his being in the title match against Punk, to which JBL has agreed. Whether that be a match to wear down Cena or Edge remains to be seen. It could also be that she schedules her own Smackdown star, Vladimir Kozlov, to face JBL at Wrestlemania 25 for the Intercontinental Title. It seems strange how Kozlov steamrolls competition yet has no gold to show for it. Following an IC title win over JBL, Kozlov would then be drafted to Raw the following week as its IC champion.

Since CM Punk dropped that title prior to Money in the Bank, that begs the question if Shelton will drop his US title prior to the MITB match? It seems less likely for Shelton right now, and maybe MVP is the MITB winner, then immediately pins Shelton for it. In other news the US Championship also seems like the most serious title and the title with longest reigns of all WWE titles. Just think back to the likes of MVP, now Shelton. Both held the title for lengthy reigns while titles like the Intercontinental, WWE and World Heavyweight championships seem to have a new owner each month.

Speaking of titles, ECW champ Jack Swagger deserves some sort of Wrestlemania 25 showcase. My thoughts on this are sort of parallel to what Newsday blogger Alfonso Castillo wrote in his speculative card for Wrestlemania 25. Alfonso is predicting another pre-Wrestlemania battle royal to determine the #1 Contender for the ECW belt. Last year saw Kane win that and then beat Chavo Guerrero for the ECW title in record time. Could this year's winner be Tommy Dreamer? He has that promise he made to be champ again or retire in June. The other possibility is Christian wins the MITB ladder match, and cashes in against Swagger at the event to win the ECW title.

That leaves Miz & Morrison as well as The Colons. Miz & Morrison continually brag about being the greatest tag team in recent WWE history. A match against the Colons where Miz & Morrison capture both sets of belts and unify them would solidify Miz and Morrison on that epic role, so we just may see that match go down, which would give the Bella Twins even more TV time after their 25 diva battle royal.
