Wrestlemania 25 Matches

Wrestlemania 25 is just about one month away, but the excitement and anticipation for the event continues to build. There's still speculation as to which matches will be included on the Pay-Per-View's card, as individuals like John Cena, Chris Jericho, Christian, Rey Mysterio and Jack Swagger have yet to be included. As of early March 2008, there's four matches officially listed on WWE.com as being part of the 25th anniversary of Wrestlemania. Believe it or not, according to WWE.com, Big Show versus Edge is offical, as of 3/5/09. Also included on the card is Randy Orton taking on Triple H for the WWE title, the traditional Money in the Bank Ladder Match, and Shawn Michaels going up against the Undertaker who has that impressive 16-0 undefeated streak.

Here's a match by match preview of Wrestlemania 25. Check back as more matches are added to the card!

WWE Champion Triple H vs. Randy Orton

The history between former Evolution partners in crime, Randy Orton and Triple H escalated to a new level with the destruction each man has unleashed on Raw. It all began when Orton insulted Raw GM Stephanie McMahon months ago, prompting her father, Vince McMahon to come to the ring and demand an apology from Orton. Orton refused to comply, and before Mr. McMahon could scream "You're fired", Orton had dropped him to the mat and delivered a Punt Kick to his head. From there, Orton claimed he had a disorder known as Intermittent Explosive Disorder, causing him to have a lack of control over his actions. Vince's son, Shane McMahon made a return to Raw and attempted to gain revenge on Orton for what he had done. After losing in a No Holds Barred Match at No Way Out, Shane attempted to battle Orton yet again on Raw. The outcome of that match was grim for the McMahons, as Legacy helped Orton attack Shane, and Orton finished him off with a Punt Kick to the head. Stephanie McMahon rushed to the ring to check on her brother's condition and confront Orton. Orton snapped again and RKO'd down Stephanie, who also just happens to be married to WWE Champion, Triple H.

Ever since Orton's actions against Stephanie, Triple H has been on a mission to destroy Orton. Fans witnessed the chaos unleashed on Raw as HHH chased Orton and Ted Dibiase Jr. with a Sledgehammer all over the backstage area. Things finally came to a head when Randy Orton arrived to the ring on Raw to announce his choice for title match at Wrestlemania 25. Since Orton won the 2009 Royal Rumble, he was granted the right to choose which title he'd compete for at Wrestlemania 25. At first, Orton attempted to avoid facing Triple H, by choosing the World Heavyweight Title match. The Game arrived on the scene and confronted Orton to the point where Orton had no choice but to face him at Wrestlemania 25. Orton added the stipulation that they must settle things at the Pay-Per-View, and if HHH puts a hand on him before the event, he'll be heading to jail. Tempers are definitely reaching maximum levels when it comes to the aggression this match will feature. Will Triple H be able to extract revenge on Orton for the McMahons? Or will Orton be able to use the situation to re-capture the WWE Title?

World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs. Big Show vs. John Cena
Triple Threat Match

In an announcement that shocked the WWE Universe, Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero announced that the #1 Contender for Edge's World Heavyweight Title would be Big Show. This came just moments after Edge ended his title rematch with John Cena by getting disqualified when he clocked Cena in the head with the championship belt. On Smackdown for months, Big Show had been an ally for Edge, helping him win various matches. Most recently, Big Show defeated John Cena, with a little help from Edge. However, there had also been moments of dissension amongst the two stars, with Big Show leaving Edge to face Undertaker and Triple H on his own or interrupting Edge and Vickie Guerrero. With Cena seemingly out of the title picture, he showed up on Smackdown to whisper some damaging info to Vickie Guerrero which reduced her to tears. Several days later, Cena made the revelation public knowledge by revealing video footage of Big Show and Vickie Guerrero making out backstage. The footage infuriated Edge, put Vickie back into tears, and before it was released, put John Cena's name in the World Heavyweight Championship match at WM25, per Vickie's decision.

Now it will be a Triple Threat match for the title featuring Edge defending against John Cena & Big Show. Edge is labeled the Ultimate Opportunist, but will he be able to find an opportunity against the World's Largest Athlete and former World Champion John Cena? Or will Wrestlemania see the rise of a new World Heavyweight Champ?

Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker

Both JBL and Shawn Michaels stated their goal on Raw was to head to Wrestlemania 25 and finally stop the Undertaker's undefeated streak. The two agreed to wrestle over that chance to face Taker, with the Showstopper effectively stopping JBL's show. Unfortunately for Michaels, Smackdown's GM Vickie Guerrero was interim GM of Raw and ordered him to fight Vladimir Kozlov for the opportunity. Kozlov was able to defeat Taker on Smackdown as he headed to Raw to battle Michaels. Yet again, the Heartbreak Kid prevailed and was able to hand Kozlov his first ever singles loss in WWE competition. Immediately afterwards, the Deadman himself appeared at the top of the ramp, staring right down at Michaels and signaling that the Heartbreak Kid's demise will occur at Wrestlemania next month. As these two legendary superstars collide at Wrestlemania 25, which will prevail: Michaels the Showstopper or The Undertaker's Streak?

Rey Mysterio vs. JBL
Intercontinental Title Match

After ending a rough feud with Shawn Michaels who was able to defeat JBL and end their employer-employee relationship, JBL was in search of making history at Wrestlemania 25. His first idea was to challenge The Undertaker in an attempt to break Undertaker's Wrestlemania undefeated streak of 16-0. JBL lost that opportunity to former employee Shawn Michaels. However, weeks later the self-proclaimed wrestling God was able to cleverly defeat CM Punk with a few dirty tricks used. JBL's rake to Punk's eyes was not seen by the referee. The blind move allowed JBL to deliver his vicious Clothesline from Hell to level Punk and capture the Intercontinental Title. JBL was all smiles from there on out as he successfully has kept the title. Rey Mysterio was the man who formerly retired JBL years ago back on Smackdown, and decided to issue a challenge to Bradshaw for his newly acquired gold. JBL is still making claims that he will do something historic for Wrestlemania 25, but what does he have in mind? Will the WWE's littlest big man be able to defeat a self-proclaimed wrestling God at Wrestlemania?

Chris Jericho vs. WWE Legends
3 on 1 Handicap Match

The arrogance of Chris Jericho reached a whole new level after he seemed to be done insulting actor Mickey Rourke from "The Wrestler". When rumors of their match were laid to rest, Jericho began to re-focus his attention, this time on WWE's legends and Hall of Famers. In consecutive weeks, Jericho managed to bring out and attack the likes of Rowdy Roddy Piper, Superfly Jimmy Snuka and Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat. Of course these attacks did not sit well with the Nature Boy Ric Flair, one of the biggest wrestling legends of all time. Flair eventually sided with all 3 men to march down to the very ring where Jericho was continuing to bash legends. From there, Piper, Steamboat and Snuka took Jericho down to the mat, but Jericho managed to escape. Unluckily for him though, Ric Flair was ready outside the ring and leveled him with a punch. Jericho was fuming afterwords and issued a challenge to all 3 men, Piper, Steamboat and Snuka for a match at Wrestlemania 25, where Flair and Rourke could watch. Flair promptly accepted the challenge on behalf of the 3 legends.

Things reached an extreme level on Raw when Jericho made a vicious attack on Ric Flair in the ring, beating and bloodying up the Nature Boy and eventually stomping on his gold watch, a retirement gift from Shawn Michaels. Jericho seems more determined then ever to make an example of the Hall of Famers as washed up "has beens", but with Ric Flair and Mickey Rourke nearby, they're sure to have plenty of support. Will Jericho be able to make his point at Wrestlemania 25, or will the legends finally make Jericho close his mouth with the disrespectful talk he's aimed at them?

WWE Tag Team Champions vs. World Tag Team Champions
Unified Tag Team Championship Lumberjack Match

In a match with ultimate bragging rights on the line two of the most talented tag teams in the WWE will clash in an attempt to become the unified tag team champs. Carlito and Primo Colon will face off with The Miz and John Morrison who have called themselves the "Greatest tag team of the 21st century". On ECW when The Colons issued the challenge to Miz and Morrison, the Bella Twins were both present in the ring. Miz and Morrison accepted the match, then taunted The Colons. This prompted the Colons to try to spit apple chunks at them, but when Morrison ducked, the apples flew all over Brie Bella, much to the amusement of her twin sister Nikki. This caused a cat fight between the two beautiful Bella twins in the ring, with Nikki leaving with Miz and Morrison while Brie remained with The Colons. These two divas will be involved in the huge 25 Divas Battle Royal at WM25, but they could really be a factor in the tag title unification match. Add to that the fact that ECW's GM Theodore Long has made this a Lumberjack match, which will keep all competitors from escaping the ring for too long. Which of these two very talented teams will become the WWE's unified champions as of WM25? Will the Bellas continue siding how they are, or choose one team to side with?

Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy
Extreme Rules Match

For weeks, Matt Hardy had been citing jealousy over Jeff's popularity and success in the WWE as his reasons for his in-ring attack on Jeff. Matt's attack was a major one, as he delivered a chairshot to his own brother which allowed Edge to win back the WWE title which Jeff held for the first time ever in his career. Prior to all of that, Jeff had suffered accident after accident which seemed all too coincidental. Right before the Survivor Series PPV in Boston, Jeff was found knocked out cold after suffering an attack in his hotel room. The attack left him unable to compete at the Pay-Per-View. After that, Jeff saw his car hit in a rear-end collision, but luckily Jeff was unharmed. A pyrotechnics display turned ugly when it blew up right in Jeff's face on Smackdown. Jeff was unsure who to blame, but at the time it appeared to be Edge. Now after weeks have gone by with Matt continuing to unleash his anger on his own brother, it appears more of a possibility that Matt's jealousy prompted him to make these attacks. Jeff had originally refused to partake in any sort of fight against his own brother, but after Matt got personal on Smackdown, Jeff finally accepted this huge Wrestlemania match between two brothers, which has become an "Extreme Rules Match" which favors both of the Hardys. Which Hardy will come out on top in the battle of two of the most successful and storied characters in WWE history? Will Jeff's high-flying ring skills be enough to overtake Matt's jealous rage of anger?

Money in the Bank Ladder Match

"Money in the Bank" has easily become a fan favorite match at Wrestlemania, as 6-8 competitors battle it out and try to be the first one to climb a ladder and retrieve a briefcase hanging high above the ring. The briefcase contains a very important title opportunity, which allows the wrestler who owns it to cash that in at anytime, anyplace for the title of their choosing. Last year's winner, CM Punk, went on to cash in on Raw and defeated Edge for the World Heavyweight Title. In the past all but one winner, Mr. Kennedy, have been able to make good with the briefcase and get a title out of the deal. This year's edition will feature 8 total competitors vying for the briefcase: CM Punk, Kofi Kingston, and Kane from WWE Raw, Mark Henry, Christian & Finlay from ECW, Shelton Benjamin and MVP from Smackdown.

Who will prevail in this physical battle involving the brutality of a metal ladder and 7 other competitors?

25 WWE Divas Battle Royal

Wrestlemania wouldn't be complete with some involvement from the lovely WWE Divas. This year will see an all out brawl as 25 divas from Raw, ECW, Smackdown and the past will step into the ring for a battle royal. On Raw the catfights already broke out as Maryse and Melina had just finished a match pitting the two respective champs against one another. Divas from both Raw and Smackdown got involved, but the battle is far from over. Which diva will reign supreme and be called "Miss Wrestlemania" when it's all said and done?
