Smackdown Recap 04.10.09

SmackDown Recap from Austin, TX:

Matt Hardy came to the ring to gloat over his Wrestlemania 25 win against Jeff. He then informed the WWE Universe that he plans to erase Jeff from the WWE for good. Jeff Hardy came out to confront Matt. As Jeff rushed into the ring, Matt quickly fled up the ramp. New Smackdown GM, Theodore Long showed up at the top of the ramp and announced that Matt and Jeff will meet in a Stretcher match on Smackdown later in the evening.

Todd Grisham & Jim Ross handled tonight's commentary for Smackdown. Josh Matthews will be continuing doing ECW commentary until the WWE draft or otherwise.

Kofi Kingston vs. Big Show

An angry Big Show took out his frustrations of not winning the World Heavyweight title on Kofi Kingston. Big Show seemed to have a powerful answer for every move Kofi made. Kingston still managed to gain momentum with his explosive offensive techniques including a high standing dropkick. Kofi used a missile dropkick off the ropes and when Show eventually was on the mat, Kofi hit him with the double leg drop. Despite Kofi's attempted pinfall, Show hit a jumping Kofi Kingston with a Knockout Punch in mid air, then took the pin.

Winner: Big Show wins via pinfall over Kofi Kingston.

The Great Khali vs. Santino Marella

Santino came to the ring to issue an open challenge to anyone from the Smackdown roster. The Great Khali came down to accept, telling Santino how he would like Santina Marella to go on Kiss Cam with him, or else Khali will give Santino a beating. Santino refused the Kiss Cam offer on behalf of his sister, so when the match started, Khali manhandled Marella. Khali finished him off quickly with the Punjabi Plunge to win by pinfall.

Winner: The Great Khali wins via pinfall over Santino Marella.

Gail Kim vs. Michelle McCool

The two divas had a back and forth match, with Gail Kim trying to become a top contender for the divas championship. At one point, Michelle sent Gail flying shoulder first into the corner ringpost. Michelle continued the punishment on Gail outside the ring, then brought her to the inside for a submission hold. Gail was able to escape and regain momentum, eventually hitting a high cross body and reversing a pinfall attempt by Michelle to win it.

Winner: Gail Kim wins via pinfall over Michelle McCool.

The Cutting Edge had Edge invite out his special guest John Cena. Edge told Cena just how much he hates him. Cena challenged Edge to hit him, but Edge walked away instead. GM Theodore Long comes out and announced they will fight for the World Championship tonight.

Carlito & Primo Colon vs. Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes

The brand new unified tag team champs returned to Smackdown with their gold but had to face Raw's Rhodes & Dibiase in a non-title bout. Legacy started out strong, with the Colons making a comeback and clotheslining their two opponents out of the ring at one point. As things got settled down, Legacy began to use the doubleteam strategy on Primo. Eventually, Legacy managed to steal a victory away from the Colons.

After the match had ended, Legacy continued to pummel The Colons in the ring. Their leader, Randy Orton arrived down to the ring and added some stomps of his own onto the Colons. Orton then discussed their upcoming six man tag match for Backlash against Shane McMahon, Triple H & Batista. Orton promised he'll take the championship away from HHH at the PPV.

Winners: Ted Dibiase & Cody Rhodes win via pinfall over The Colons.

Matt Hardy vs. Jeff Hardy
Stretcher Match

Matt and Jeff continued their feud where it left off at Wrestlemania 25 with a grueling stretcher match. Early on Matt hit a Side Effect on Jeff and the stretchers were brought into play. The two brothers battled inside, outside and around the ring. After Jeff failed at his Swanton Bomb attempt onto the stretcher, Matt pushed it up the ramp and smashed a chair on Jeff for good measure to get the win.
Winner: Matt Hardy wins the Stretcher Match against Jeff Hardy.

John Cena vs. Edge

John Cena scored the clean win to preserve his title against Edge.

John Cena wins via pinfall over Edge to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.
