Raw Preview 05.25.09
Tonight's Raw comes on the heels of a controversy involving the WWE and NBA. Months ago, WWE had reserved the Pepsi Arena in Denver, Colorado for the 5/25/05 episode of Raw. Due to the success of the NBA team the Denver Nuggets in the 2008-09 NBA Playoffs, the team advanced to the Western Conference Finals of the NBA Playoffs. This meant Denver would need the use of their home arena on the same night as Monday Night Raw. Mr. McMahon and the executives at Raw were left with little time to figure out where to move Raw to. Over 10,000 tickets were refunded to upset Denver fans, and WWE Raw will now take place in its new impromptu location, the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Recently, Shane McMahon and John Cena were seen rooting for the Lakers courtside at a Denver Nuggets game. Obviously the WWE Universe and Mr. McMahon were not pleased with the move, but the show must go on!
There's at least two themed events scheduled for Raw in response to the big controversy. In one event, there will be a huge 10 man tag team match, called the "Raw All Star match". In the preview picture, the two teams of 5 wrestlers are shown wearing Lakers and Nuggets jerseys, representing the current NBA playoff series. On one team it will be Batista along with John Cena, MVP, Jerry Lawler, and a mystery fifth man. On the opposing side it will be Randy Orton, Ted Dibiase, Cody Rhodes, The Miz and Big Show. There's been plenty of feuds amongst these teams with the current situation between Batista and Orton as well as the heated situation between John Cena and Big Show. Last week also saw Big Show make an example of Jerry Lawler in the ring, putting him into a vicious submission hold after knocking him to the mat. Of course the big question will be just who is this mystery wrestler who will complete Batista's team? And which team will prevail in this battle of WWE All-Stars?
Due to the double booking situation, an unhappy Mr. McMahon made his feelings known in interviews to ESPN, where he spoke about the Nuggets owner Mr. Kroenke being a bad businessman. Mr. McMahon also held a press conference in New York City during which he read a press release issued by Kroenke Sports Enterprises. Mr. McMahon said the release contained statements and agreements to which he never agreed or made. Now Mr. McMahon will apparently be returning to WWE Raw for a match against Mr. Kroenke, in what has been billed as "The Boss vs. The Chicken Nugget". The WWE Universe nows that Mr. McMahon loves to take out his vengeance on anyone who tries to get in his way, and this is certain to be another example of the boss unleashing his fury. Will the Chicken Nugget stand a chance against Mr. McMahon when he enters the ring? What other mayhem is likely to go down on this crazy and controversial episode of WWE Raw?
Tune in to Monday Night Raw tonight at 9PM EST on the USA cable channel!
