Smackdown Recap 08.21.09

Smackdown Recap from :

After the pyrotechnics explosion, commentators Jim Ross and Todd Grisham welcomed fans to the show, mentioned a Matt Hardy interview for later on and the main event match. Smackdown kicked off with a six man tag match featuring competitors from two different matches at this Sunday's Summerslam.

Rey Mysterio & Cryme Tyme vs. Dolph Ziggler, Chris Jericho & Big Show

In the opener it was Intercontinental champ Rey Mysterio teaming with Cryme Tyme to face the Unified Tag champs and Dolph Ziggler. During the match, the heels began to prevent JTG from making a tag, by isolating him and continuing to work him over. Finally at one point, JTG ducked a Jericho clothesline and jumped to tag in Shad. From there, Shad blocked Jericho's crossbody attempt, then tagged in Mysterio who did a splash from off Shad's shoulders. Ziggler came in to prevent Rey's pinfall on Jericho. Shad came in to toss Ziggler out, so then Big Show came in to take out Shad to the outside. Mysterio continued to have momentum on Jericho, hitting a hurricanrana and then the 619. Right after 619 though, Big Show clocked Rey with a huge knockout punch. Jericho tagged in Dolph Ziggler who made the winning pinfall, then went up the ramp celebrating. Show and Jericho posed in the ring with their titles.

Winners: Dolph Ziggler, Chris Jericho & The Big Show win via pinfall over Rey Mysterio & Cryme Tyme.

After a commercial break, Smackdown had highlights of Matt Hardy coming down to rescue Jeff Hardy from CM Punk on last week's show. Josh Matthews had a backstage sit-down interview during which Matt admitted he made the biggest mistake of his life last year when he let jealousy get the best of him. He said back then he felt like he was on the back burner while Jeff was enjoying success. Matt said he could never forgive himself for what he did, but is glad that Jeff forgave him. Matt said now they'll do what Jeff said and move on. Matt expressed his excitement at the Hardy's being united in the ring again tonight.

Kane came to the ring to talk about his kidnapping of Ranjin Singh, after the highlights from last week were shown. Jim Ross and Grisham said that Khali vs. Kane was officially added as a Summerslam match. Kane talked in the ring about being the only dominant big man in WWE, and that he is a monster. Kane said Khali has a weakness due to his compassion, so Kane will end the myth of Great Khali at Summerslam. Kane said Khali better be afraid of him.

The Great Khali's music came on and Khali came down to the ring ready for action. Kane grabbed a chair and took a swing, but Khali slapped it down. Khali then began to stomp on Kane repeatedly, and grabbed the steel chair. Kane was able to escape before Khali could use the chair on him. Kane backed up the ramp as Khali stood in the ring looking angry.

Finlay vs. Mike Knox

Early on the action spilled to the outside of the ring, where Knox had Finlay up on his shoulder. Knox tried to ram him head first to the ringpost, but instead Finlay slid off and shoved Knox into the post. Back in the ring, Finlay got a two count on Knox, before Knox was able to regain control. Knox began to go on the offensive, hitting a side slam on Finlay. Knox wrenched Finlays arm back on the mat to work him over some. As they got back to their feet, the fight continued with Knox eventually kicking the shilaleigh out of the ring. Knox tried to do a running knee at Finlay in the corner, with Finlay moving away. Finlay took control from here as he punched away and hit a cannonball, but could only get a 2 count. When Finlay tried to pick up Knox for a slam, his back gave out. Instead he did a forward roll for a two count. Again with Knox in the corner, Finlay tried to charge at him, but Knox moved, causing Finlay to hit the ringpost. Knox went for a 2, then got on top of Finlay to start beating on him until the ref finally disqualified him.

After the match, Knox pulled Finlay to the outside and pulled the stairs apart. Finlay was able to hit Knox with the shillaleigh, but then Knox came back to boot Finlay down. Knox took the steel steps and hit Finlay in the head before leaving the scene. WWE officials checked to see if Finlay was ok.

Winner: Finlay wins due to disqualification of Mike Knox.

Jeff Hardy came to the ring to hype his World Heavyweight Title TLC match against CM Punk. The ring was decorated with Tables, Ladders and Chairs. Hardy discussed making peace with his brother Matt. He also said doctors have advised him not to compete in any more physical activities, and that he should retire before it's too late. Jeff said he never listened to doctor's orders before and wasn't going to start now. He then climbed the ladder and discussed how the TLC match is all his. He vowed to defeat Punk at Summerslam.

CM Punk came out to interrupt Jeff, asking Jeff if he was scared to be up so high, or if he was drunk. Punk told Jeff he must be drunk to live in his "live in he moment" lifestyle all the time. Punk then went on to say how everyone was calling the TLC match "Jeff's match", including GM Teddy Long. Punk said this will be Jeff's last match, because he'll take out Jeff to save the fans, proving his straight edge lifestyle is better.

Jeff said there's no way Punk can destroy him and everything he's done. Punk snapped back that Jeff needs the fans to justify his reckless behavior, and the fans need Jeff to justify their addictions. Punk quipped how Jeff thinks he can fly, and Jeff said his spirit knows he can fly. Punk said let's find out and began to tip the ladder over. Jeff jumped down and hit a Twist of Fate to plant Punk into the mat, just as the ladder fell on Jeff's head. As Jeff went up the ramp he held his head.

Maria and Melina vs. Layla and Natalya

Michelle McCool made her return to Smackdown and joined JR/Grisham on commentary for this divas tag match. When the action went to the outside, Melina stared down McCool at the table. Michelle stood up, and Melina shoved her back down. From there, Layla gained the advantage as she clotheslined Melina down, then rammed Melina into the table a few times. Back in the ring, Layla tagged in Natalya who went to work on Melina's knee. Natalya put Melina up in the surfboard submission hold. Melina got out of it eventually but couldn't make the tag because Natalya knocked Maria off the apron. The match continued and Melina was able to land a Sunset Flip in surprising fashion to win it.

After the match, Michelle McCool held up the Womens title outside the ring as Maria and Melina celebrated in the ring.

Winners: Maria and Melina win via pinfall over Layla and Natalya.

A Cryme Tyme "Word Up" segment came on, featuring Slam Master J. Cryme Tyme was upset over their loss earlier so J tried to cheer them up with a "Yo yo yo yo". JTG and Shad weren't having it, so Shad told Eve to get rid of Jeezy. Slam Master J said today's word is "Suspect" since Cryme Tyme was sweating two punks who are suspect, Jericho and Big Show. He showed a fake picture of Jericho in women's clothes and a picture of Big Show pigging out on food. J said Cryme Tyme would be the new tag champions, and Cryme Tyme added their "yeah yeah". They kept doing the chant into a commercial break.

Mysterio was interviewed by Josh Matthews backstage. Mysterio said Dolph Ziggler is a true, worthy opponent, but Mysterio will be victorious again at Summerslam.

Jim Ross and Todd Grisham ran down the Summerslam card including John Cena vs Randy Orton for the WWE Title, the return of D-Generation X versus Shawn Michaels, and Jeff Hardy defending the World Heavyweight Title in a TLC match against CM Punk.

John Morrison, Matt & Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk & Hart Dynasty

In the early going of this match, it was classic Hardys as CM Punk missed a running knee on Matt, then Matt tagged in Jeff for their doubleteam move. With Matt down on all fours, Jeff ran and jumped off him into Punk. Jeff clotheslined Punk outside of the ring, and Matt, Jeff, Morrison all posed inside the ring as Smackdown went to break.

Back from break, the faces effectively worked on Tyson Kidd. Morrison did a side headlock takeover. Jeff was able to hit a double leg drop and low dropkick, and then Matt tagged in to work on Kidd. Kidd escaped here to tag in Smith. Smith tried to wear Matt down with a sleeper style submission hold. Matt eventually elbowed his way out of it to tag in John Morrison. Morrison went for a running strike on Smith who ducked it and tried to pin him for 2. Smith then leveled Morrison with a clothesline to tag in Punk. Punk jumped on Morrison and continued hitting him until forced to break it. As the action continued, Morrison went after Punk in the corner with Punk avoiding him and pushing Morrison over the ropes. As the ref was trying to keep the Hardys out of the ring, DH Smith got a cheap shot kick on Morrison outside the ring.

As the match went on, Punk gained the advantage against Jeff Hardy. Punk hit several leg drops then drove his elbow into Jeff's shoulder. He tried for several pinfalls with no luck. Jeff eventually fought out of Punk's reverse chin lock and when Punk pushed him to the corner, he managed to hit a Whisper in the Wind. Jeff made a big tag to Matt who came in to destroy Punk. Matt whipped Punk to the ropes then did a bulldog. From there, Matt rushed over to knock Kidd and Smith down off the apron. Matt hit a Side Effect for a near pinfall on Punk with Smith rushing in to break it up.

John Morrison rushed in and clotheslined Smith to the outside. Kidd rushed in at Morrison who backdropped him over the ropes. Morrison then did a jump move over the ropes to land on both men. From there, Jeff hit Punk with a move, followed by Matt's Twist of Fate for the win. After the match, Matt and Jeff hugged while Punk recovered on the outside as Smackdown ended.

Winners: Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy and John Morrison win via pinfall over CM Punk & Hart Dynasty.
