2009 WWE Bragging Rights Results
Welcome to the 2009 WWE Bragging Rights results page from WWE Characters the Blog. This year's Pay-Per-View takes place October 25th, 2009 at 8PM EST and features several compelling matches. The two major titles will be on the line as Undertaker and Randy Orton defend the World Heavyweight and WWE Title's respectively. Orton will defend his in a "60 Minute Iron Man match" with Anything Goes stipulations against John Cena. If Cena loses that match he also must leave WWE Raw for good. In the other title match, The Undertaker will put his World Championship on the line in a Fatal Fourway against Rey Mysterio, Batista and CM Punk. Also on the card are several more matches including a 7-on-7 tag team match between the superstars of Raw and Smackdown for ultimate brand "bragging rights". You'll find full results for this year's event posted after 11PM EST on Sunday night. Enjoy the show!
The Miz vs. John Morrison
Early on it was Morrison in control of this champion versus champion match. Morrison hit a shoulder block followed by a Standing Shooting Starpress on his former tag partner. Miz recovered to send Morrison to the corner for a high knee kick, but then the duo exchanged kicks to one another. Morrison went for a running knee on Miz, with Miz ducking and rolling up JMo for the near fall. After Miz whipped Morrison to the ropes, Morrison hit a springboard kick off the ropes. Miz rolled out of the ring to avoid Starship Pain, but Morrison still did a move to land on him on the outside.
Once they got back inside the ring, the two were on the top of the corner. Morrison went for a Superplex with Miz shoving him off. Miz with the double axe handle, then went for his finisher. Morrison countered to make it a Russian leg sweep instead. Morrison went for Starship Pain once more, but Miz got up to swipe Morrison's leg. Miz then scored the winning pinfall for Raw.
Winner: Raw's The Miz wins via pinfall over Smackdown's John Morrison.
Melina, Kelly Kelly & Gail Kim vs. Beth Phoenix, Natalya and Michelle McCool
Each team of three divas arrived to the ring. Earlier in the night there was a stipulation announced for a trophy that would be awarded to Raw or Smackdown depending on the best of 3 matches (Miz vs. Morrison, Divas, and Raw vs Smackdown).
Gail Kim and Beth Phoenix started off, with Beth commanding things. Gail eventually used her quickness to build momentum, and escaped from Natalya. Gail made a tag to Kelly to come in and try to continue control of the match. Kelly Kelly became the target of Smackdown's heel divas, as she was kept away from a tag. Kelly eventually escaped from Beth Phoenix with a hurricanrana and then a near fall. Melina tagged in and took Beth down, with a dropkick followed by a drop toe hold into the ropes. Beth recovered and suplexed the Divas champion, with Melina reversing it into a rollup pin. Beth recovered and was able to hit her double underhook facebuster move to win the match.
Smackdown and Raw are now tied at 1-1 in terms of brand superiority matches, with 1 match to go.
Winners: Team Smackdown divas win via pinfall over Team Raw divas.
Rey Mysterio vs. Batista vs. CM Punk vs. The Undertaker
Early on the action was an all-out brawl as expected. Punk went after Mysterio right at the bell, but then escaped outside the ring. Punk was eventually able to gain some control on Undertaker but ended up getting tossed outside the ring. Mysterio jumped out onto him. Undertaker began to build some serious momentum as he got the upperhand on Batista and connected with a big boot on Mysterio.
Punk was able to superplex Undertaker, with Mysterio going for the pin. Punk broke it up, with Batista getting back into the match to slam Punk. Undertaker hit another big boot, this time on The Animal. Mysterio went for a Hurricanrana on Taker, with Undertaker catching Rey. Taker went for Last Ride, but Batista speared him to stop it. Rey and Batista eventually hit a 619 and Spinebuster combo move on the champ, but CM Punk broke the pin up by Batista.
As the match was still at a frantic pace, Undertaker got a chokeslam on Batista. Punk broke up Taker's pin attempt. Batista and Mysterio ended up in an argument with The Animal shoving his friend down to the outside. Undertaker got another chokeslam on Batista, but The Animal escaped the pinfall. Both men were able to clothesline each other down at the same time. Punk tried for a pinfall on both guys, with both kicking out. Batista sent Punk to the outside, then catches Mysterio on a move and tossed him out onto Punk. Undertaker took advantage as Batista turned around by putting him into the Tombstone Piledriver for the pinfall.
Winner: The Undertaker wins via pinfall over Batista to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.
The 14-man tag match for brand superiority and the special Bragging Rights trophy was held second to last on the card. After all the competitors were introduced, including the new members of Team Smackdown, things got underway.
Kane and Big Show squared off early on, with Kane getting in some strikes and a kick, then avoiding a Big Show splash. Show eventually recovered to hit a shoulder block and then a leg drop on the Big Red Machine. Matt Hardy tagged in as did Jack Swagger. Hardy took control as he pounded away on Swagger, then hit him with a boot then leg drop off the ropes.
Swagger escaped to the outside with Hardy jumping out onto him. All 14 wrestlers ended up on the outside brawling, with the ref trying to restore some order. Back inside, Mark Henry tagged in to take control on Matt Hardy. Unfortunately, Henry missed on an elbow drop allowing Hardy to recover. He tried for a tag, but Henry prevented it then tagged in HBK.
HBK was able to get in some offense, but Matt got him with a side effect to finally tag out to Finlay. Finlay slammed HBK down before eventually whipping him to the corner. Finlay then did a short clothesline, and European uppercut before both men knocked heads and went down.
Eventually there was all-out carnage in the ring after Hunter hit a spinebuster on Finlay and Kidd, followed by Kane's chokeslam on HHH. Jericho and Kofi Kingston became the legal men, with Jericho running into Trouble in Paradise. The Hart Dynasty rushed in to break up Kofi's pin though. Mark Henry came in to take Smith and Kidd out, but then was taken out by Hardy and R-Truth. Henry caught R-Truth as he jumped on him outside, but Hardy was able to jump as well to crash them down. Manewhile in the ring, Finlay hit a fireman's carry slam on Cody Rhodes. Swagger hit a move on Finlay. Kane did a big boot on Swagger. Big Show hit a spear on Kane. Show tells Kofi to go to the top for a move, then grabbed him for a chokeslam. Big Show hit a Knockout punch on HHH, then left the ring allowing Chris Jericho to cover Kofi Kingston for the win.
Winners: Team Smackdown wins via pinfall over Team Raw (Chris Jericho pins Kofi Kingston).
John Cena vs. Randy Orton
The sixty minute Iron Man match closed out Bragging Rights. Orton seemed to be in control early on as he connected on a European uppercut. Cena whipped Orton but Orton was able to avoid a bulldog. Orton hit a forearm strike on Cena. Cena was sent to the outside and as he re-entered, Orton kicked and punched on him. Cena was down on the mat with Orton standing over him. Cena suddenly tripped Orton into a STF submission to get him to tap for the first win of the 60 mins.

Orton hit a power slam and leaping knee, then choked Cena in the ropes. Orton suplexed Cena for a near fall. He eventually got Cena in the side headlock. Cena escaped the hold and hit several moves including a neck breaker. As he got Orton down to the mat, he decided to go for the Five Knuckle Shuffle. Orton caught him in a RKO to collect a win.

Fifteen minutes into the match, Orton was punching away on Cena. Orton was prepping for the RKO, but Cena avoided it. Cena connected on a series of shoulder take downs, and eventually the Five Knuckle Shuffle. Cena hits Attitude Adjustment, but Orton counters with the RKO as each man gets a pinfall out of it (with each wrestler getting an arm on top of the other and both men's shoulders down on the mat).
Cena 2 Orton 2
Medics checked on Cena who had blood coming from a wound on his head. He waved them off to continue the match. Orton charged at Cena, but Cena avoided it to toss Orton shoulder first into the corner ringpost. Cena sat Orton on the corner turnbuckle and then connected with an Attitude Adjustment from there, to eventually get the next pin.
Cena 3 Orton 2
Out of nowhere, Legacy ran down to the ring to beat up Cena. Dibiase hit his finisher "Dream Street" on Cena, allowing Legacy to place Orton on top of Cena for the next fall. Kofi Kingston rushed down with a steel chair to get Legacy out of there.

The two men ended up fighting up the ramp into the technical area. Orton smased Cena head first into some controls causing some pyrotechnics to fire off. Orton tossed Cena right into the lighting and caused a big explosion. From there, Orton was able to collect the next pinfall.
Orton 4 Cena 3
Orton tried to use more controls to set off pyro on Cena. Luckily for Cena, he rolled out of harm's way. Orton is enraged and continues beating away on Cena, eventually Irish whipping him into the steel steps, then using the steps to throw at Cena. Orton went for a pin with Cena kicking out. As they continued trhe fight, Orton used a steel chair to smash across Cena. Orton picked Cena up, but Cena countered to score a small package pinfall.
Orton 4 Cena 4
Orton gained a quick pinfall by stalking Cena from the outside of the ring. Orton pulled Cena towards the apron, then DDT'd him to the floor area for the next pinfall.
Orton 5 Cena 4
Orton immediately went for a quick pin to no avail. Orton brought Cena back in the ring for more pin attempts, but couldn't get them. Orton realized he was ahead so he exited the ring up the ramp to waste time. Cena gave chase and reached him only to be kicked in the gut by Orton. Orton was able to elude Cena more and get back to the ring. Cena reached the ring and Orton tried for another elevated DDT move. This time Cena escaped it and the two men moved their fight into the crowd. Cena chased Orton into the audience and was punching away. Cena was able to smash Orton onto the steel steps and into the crowd barrier, before setting up an Attitude Adjustment with Orton through an announce table.

With the match evened up, we moved into the final 8 minutes with it all on the line for Cena. Cena set up a table in the ring and brought Orton in. After placing Orton on the table, Cena missed on a leg drop crashing through the table himself. Both men started to trade punches on their knees and then on their feet. The clock continued running down with Cena hitting a shoulder block. He ducked a move by Orton and accidentally took the referee out. Another ref came to the match, and Cena was able to get Orton into another STF. Orton struggled and strained to get free or break it, but ultimately was forced to tap out with 5 seconds left in the time limit.
Winner: John Cena wins the Iron Man Match 6-5 over Randy Orton to become the new WWE Champion.
