Smackdown Recap 02.19.10

Smackdown Recap from Kansas City, MO:

After the pyro exploded, commentator Todd Grisham welcomed fans to Smackdown just days ahead of the Elimination Chamber PPV. In the main event tonight, Edge and Batista collide in the ring in Edge's first match back to the ring since returning from injury.

Chris Jericho made his way down to the ring in a business suit to address the WWE Universe. Jericho began to brag about his achievements once again, saying he always comes out on top no matter what. He listed off beating Rock and Stone Cold in one night to become Undisputed Champion, defeating HBK in a Ladder Match to be World Champion, and defeating the Undertaker last week on Smackdown. Jericho had them roll highlights of him hitting a Codebreaker on Taker to win the match last Friday. Jericho reminded fans several times that he proved the Deadman is merely a man. He vowed to win the Chamber this Sunday and become World Champion for his sixth time.

As Jericho continued his speech he was abruptly interrupted by Edge's theme music. The Rated-R Superstar arrived down to the ring and confronted Jericho. Edge noted that he's defeated Undertaker also and understands how significant it is to do. Jericho said he did it because he's the best in the world at what he does. Edge said the clip Jericho played didn't show it all, so they played what happened right before then. The video showed Taker booting down Edge near ringside. Edge retaliated by Spearing Undertaker down after Taker hit Last Ride on Jericho. Edge told Jericho he didn't do that to help Jericho, he did it as revenge. Edge told Jericho he's not quite as good as he thinks. Jericho warned Edge to stay out of his way again saying bad things will happen if he gets involved.

Edge became enraged and told Jericho he hopes he wins the Elimination Chamber saying he hopes he can wipe that smug grin off Jericho's face after. Edge told Jericho he should be more concerned about what he can do to him right now. The lighting started to fade in and out with a buzzing noise. The distraction allowed Edge the opportunity to spear Jericho down. Jericho rolled outside then backed up the ramp.

WWE Rewind showed last week's match between Kane and Drew McIntyre. Kane had the chokeslam but McIntyre escaped it. Both men ended up outside the ring with Kane beating away on Drew as the count hit 10. After the bell, McIntyre booted Kane down, but Kane recovered to chokeslam him.

Kane vs. Dolph Ziggler

Striker and Grisham noted that the Intercontinental Title will be on the line at the Elimination Chamber PPV with Kane facing McIntyre.

Late in this match, Ziggler was using a hold on Kane's left arm to try to wear him down. Kane stood up with Ziggler and hit the Sidewalk Slam. From there he punched Ziggler down, then sent him to the corner for a barrage of moves including a clothesline and boot kick down. Kane climbed onto the corner to go for a move, but suddenly Drew McIntyre's theme started up as Drew walked out onto the stage. The distraction threw Kane off, and Ziggler jumped up on his back with a sleeper hold. Kane went down to his knees on the mat. Kane finally got himself over to grab the top rope. Ziggler jumped up on him again, but this time Kane tossed him off. Kane followed with a Chokeslam to win the match.

McIntyre slid into the ring to attack Kane. He went for the Future Shock DDT, but Kane hit a backdrop to thwart his attempt. McIntyre angrily escaped onto the ramp and picked up his title belt.

Winner: Kane wins via pinfall over Dolph Ziggler.

Josh Matthews talked to Rey Mysterio in the locker room backstage about the Elimination Chamber match. Mysterio said it's brutal, but nothing compared to the attack he suffered from CM Punk and Straightedge Society last week. Rey said he'll probably take a beating in the Chamber too, but he'll leave as the Champion.

Coming up R-Truth and John Morrison will face the Straightedge Society in a tag match. Grisham questioned if Morrison's injury from last week will hurt the team at all

When Smackdown returned they showed highlights of Ezekiel Jackson winning the ECW title off Christian on the final episode ever of ECW. A "Coming Soon" to Smackdown image was shown of Jackson to finish the segment.

Cryme Tyme vs. Caylen Croft & Trent Barreta

Former ECW stars Croft and Barreta made their debut on Smackdown after the free agency.

Early in the match Croft caused JTG to lose his footing up on the corner, and JTG fell onto the apron then floor. Barreta tagged in to beat on JTG outside the ring, then bring him back in. The new Smackdown team did several doubleteam moves with a near fall. They managed to keep JTG away from a tag and grounded on the mat with a submission hold. Barreta had JTG seated on the corner for a move, but JTG elbowed him off. JTG managed to flip under a clothesline from Trent, then made the tag to Shad. Shad came in with momentum, knocking Croft off the apron, then pressing Barreta overhead for a move.

Shad had the pin, but Croft came in to break it up. JTG rushed in and ended up knocked out of the ring by Croft, so Shad ran over to clothesline him out as well. Barreta was able to do a springboard dropkick to send Shad into the ropes. He tried for another DDT style move with Shad near the ropes, but Shad countered then hit the STO to slam Barreta down for a pin.

Winners: Cryme Tyme wins via pinfall over Croft & Barreta.

Grisham and Striker started discussing Elimination Chamber and the Road to Wrestlemania 26. They brought up the Hall of Fame induction ceremony the night before WM26, with Million Dollar Man the first inductee. The next inductee was showcased, wrestler Antonio Inoki. Inoki fought in the 60's and 70's and brought a huge match against Muhammad Ali as well as one against Ric Flair in North Korea. Inoki joins Dibiase as part of the WWE 2010 Hall of Fame class, March 27, 2010 in Phoenix, AZ.

Josh Matthews spoke to John Morrison backstage about his DVD "Rock Star" from WWE and his Elimination Chamber match on Sunday. Matthews asked Morrison how well he's walking after the injury. Morrison said he's waited for a chance to win the title for a long time. He said his entire career has lead him this far, so a tweaked ankle isn't going to keep him out of this match. R-Truth came up and asked to talk to Morrison, saying he's going to talk the WWE Universe to new levels on Sunday in the Chamber. R-Truth said if becoming champ means going through Morrison, so be it, but tonight they'll work as a team.

CM Punk came to the ring with Serena and Luke Gallows for the next match. They showed highlights of Mysterio beating Punk last week, only to suffer a vicious attack after the bell from Gallows, Serena and Punk. Punk addressed the WWE Universe in the ring prior to the tag match, saying he's humble but he's the greatest thing to happen to the fans and they know it. Punk said they're all part of his crusade. Punk talked about five other superstars being locked in the Elimination Chamber Sunday. He said he's going to crush their spirits in the Chamber, just like he'll crush the fans' confused spirits to fill it with Straightedge. Punk said Straightedge means he's better than everyone, and he'll prove it again like he did to Mysterio last week after their match. Punk vowed to become a four-time Straightedge World Champion at Sunday's PPV.

Luke Gallows & CM Punk vs. John Morrison & R-Truth

Morrison came out first by himself. Next out was R-Truth, performing "What's Up?" with the help of random fans in the crowd. Morrison and Truth walked around the outside of the ring slapping hands with fans, before they got in. Truth asked Kansas City "What's Up?" as Punk and Gallows stared at him.

Striker noted that Morrison wasn't showing any ill effects due to last week's injury, as he handled Punk early. R-Truth tagged in to hit a doubleteam move and took control over Punk. Punk managed a tag to Gallows, who came in aggressive but unable to take control as R-Truth hit a flying bodypress off the corner. He had a near fall but Gallows escaped the pin. As both men got up, pyrotechnics exploded near the top of the ramp. Grisham noted the Undertaker's presence is being felt tonight.

During a commercial, Gallows took control of the match, hitting a backbreaker on Truth. Punk was now the legal man, taking it to Truth with a series of kicks. Gallows was back in to unload more punches on Truth in the corner. Gallows ran over and kicked Morrison off the apron, then flattened Truth with a splash in the corner for a pin attempt. Gallows and Punk continued to maintain control on Truth as Serena watched from outside.

Truth hit a huge forearm on CM Punk, then traded punches with him. Punk hit a roundhouse kick to drop Truth down, then dragged Truth over to tag in Gallows. Truth finally got his escape when he landed a kick in Punk's gut off a Punk springboard move. Truth rolled towards Morrison and got the tag. Morrison was in fast to cut off Punk and took him down with punches and a high knee. After a running knee, Punk kicked out. Morrison did a mule kick to knock Gallows off the corner. Morrison and Punk ended up on the apron, with Morrison going for a kick. Punk avoided it and John's hurt ankle collided with the ringpost. Morrison writhed around in pain on the mat, but Punk kept going after the injury. Finally, the ref called for the bell, but Punk continued to try to attack.

R-Truth came in to knock Punk down and save Morrison. Serena rushed in and threw herself on Punk to prevent Truth from attacking. Truth stared at them, and Gallows clobbered Truth from behind, kicking away at him. Gallows hit the Gallows Poll on Truth. Punk and Gallows prepared to get Truth up for more of the attack. Suddenly, the crowd went wild as Rey Mysterio charged down to the ring. Mysterio jumped on the apron and rammed Punk in the stomach, then jumped off the top rope to take Punk down. He started punching away on Gallows, then turned to see Punk back up. This time Punk leveled Mysterio, turned him over and began elbowing him in the back of the head. He put a submission hold on Mysterio and clubbed him in the face. Punk instructed Gallows to pick up Mysterio. Gallows did a backbreaker, as Punk got on the corner and did a kneedrop right onto Mysterio's throat. Punk posed with Luke and Serena as the fans booed. Striker said this is a perfect plan from CM Punk.

Winners: CM Punk & Luke Gallows win due to the fact John Morrison couldn't continue.

They showed Raw Rebound with footage of Bret Hart appearing on Raw to say goodbye to the fans, since it seemed he isn't getting a match with Vince McMahon. As Bret left backstage, Cena asked if Bret would reconsider. Hart said it's the end of the line. He got into the backdoor of a limo, but an unknown woman backed into the door and his leg. Hart was taken away in an ambulance to deal with the injury. Grisham said it's been confirmed Hart has a broken left leg with ligament and tendon damage.

Backstage, GM Teddy Long was watching footage of last week when Mickie James accidentally hit a bowl of cottage cheese out of Michelle McCool's hands, causing it to go all over a nearby Vickie Guerrero. Teddy Long started chuckling, then turned to see Vickie standing behind him. She asked if he thought it was funny and Long said she doesn't need any more cottage cheese. Vickie said it's a shame Shawn Michaels didn't leave a boot print on Teddy's face to improve it. Mickie James came in and apologized to Vickie for what happened last week. Vickie said that Mickie will be defending her Women's title next week because Michelle McCool invoked the rematch clause. Mickie said she couldn't wait, then Vickie told her she's going to be the special referee for it.

Maria, Matt Hardy & The Great Khali vs. The Hart Dynasty
Six Person Mixed Gender tag match

Maria, Matt Hardy & Khali all came dancing to and inside the ring to Khali's theme music.

Natalya started against Maria and used a boot to the back of her to shove Maria face first into the mat. Maria caught herself against the ropes when Natalya tried for a move. Maria followed by tripping Natalya against the ropes then jumped on her back. Natalya stretched over to tag in Kidd, so Hardy came in as well. Kidd eventually gained control, and backed Hardy into the corner so Smith could tag in. The Dynasty ran several double team moves including a standing suplex from DH Smith, then kept tagging in and out to wear down Hardy more.

Hardy finally managed to hit a Side Effect, then struggled to go over and make a tag. Instead, DH Smith recovered, then charged over and knocked Hardy through the ropes. As Hardy was falling out of the ring, Maria made contact with him inadvertantly. Maria stayed on the apron, as Khali went down to try to help Hardy. DH Smith walked over as well. Meanwhile, Natalya had to come in as the legal participant in the match. She walked over and grabbed Maria by her hair, then tossed her into the ring. Meanwhile Khali staved off the attack from DH Smith outside the ring. Natalya waited for Maria to get up, then hit a tornado clothesline to win the match.

Winners: The Hart Dynasty wins via pinfall over Maria, Matt Hardy & Great Khali.

The promo video about the Elimination Chamber was shown, on the road to Wrestlemania 26. The construction of the Chamber featuring 16 tons of steel and its brutal nature were showcased. Two men start the match, with four others in pods. In 5 minute intervals, each pod opens to allow another wrestler into the match. Only way to eliminate a wrestler is pinfall or submission. The final wrestler remaining in the end will be the champion.

Striker and Grisham recapped the two Chamber match participants. Sheamus defends the WWE Title against Orton, Cena, HHH, Dibiase & Kofi Kingston. Undertaker defends the World title against Mysterio, Punk, Jericho, R-Truth and Morrison.

Coming up next, 2010 Royal Rumble winner Edge and The Animal Batista clash in Edge's first match since returning from injury.

Backstage, Maria and Matt were talking about their mixed tag match. Maria was upset at being the one to lose the match. Hardy told her to quit the "losing talk" because it doesn't change who she is inside. Matt Hardy said nobody's perfect, but he sees something close to perfect in her face. Team LayCool came up yelling "someone needs to get a room" and called Maria "loose lips". They told Hardy to be careful because he could contract cooties by kissing Maria. Next they asked how come neither of them can make a relationship last, or win a match. Maria angrily shoved them aside and walked off. Hardy got in their faces and told the children to grow up, then pushed them aside to leave. Layla and Michelle began complimenting each other on how good they look.

Edge vs. Batista

Batista arrived down to the ring with a spotlight on him, then posed in the ring for a bit. They showed highlights from Raw where Cena called out Batista to come talk about why he attacked him. Batista appeared on a sattelite, saying he'll be at Raw next week to see how much Cena runs his mouth then.

Batista grabbed the top rope at the bell and did stretches, instructing the ref to keep Edge away. Edge went for a lockup and Batista ducked out under the ropes several times, taunting Edge. Batista backed up to the ropes, then waved bye bye to Edge, before leaving the ring. Batista started up the ramp with the ref counting and Edge looking puzzled about it. Edge asked for a mic to confront Batista. Edge got on the mic saying it looks like Cena is right about Batista being spineless. Edge told Batista to get back in the ring now. Batista stopped in his tracks, then turned and headed to the ring.

Batista got in the ring and locked up, with Edge getting him in the corner. Batista punched Edge off him, then the two traded punches in the center of the ring. Edge knocked Batista down, then crouched down in the corner to prepare for the Spear. Edge went for it, with Batista rolling out of the ring. Smackdown went to commercial.

When Smackdown returned, The Animal gained control and rammed Edge into the corner. Striker said during break, Batista targeted the neck and back of Edge. Batista went to the outside and tore apart the steel steps. Batista pulled Edge outside the ring to prepare a Batista Bomb onto the steps. Instead, Edge did a backdrop and Batista fell on the steps on his back. Edge got back in the ring then hit a running clothesline from the side apron. Both guys got up, and into the ring where Edge continued control as he slipped off Batista's shoulder and slammed Batista down. Edge set up for another Spear, but Batista countered with a Spinebuster for a two count.

Batista began stomping near the ropes and signaled for Batista Bomb, but Edge countered and hit a DDT. Edge had the near fall with Batista out at 2 1/2. Edge climbed the corner, but Batista was back up and ran over to knock him off. The Animal began stomping to prepare for his own Spear. Edge got up in the opposite corner and ran to deliver the Spear on Batista. Just then, the lights went out and Undertaker's bell sounded.

As the lights returned, Undertaker was standing in the ring with a hand on Edge's throat. He picked up Edge and Chokeslammed him down, causing the DQ. Batista quickly escaped the ring and headed backstage. Undertaker left soon after with Edge down in the ring. Undertaker stood up on the ramp, then turned to look back at Edge who was pulling himself up from the mat by the ropes. Taker put a fist in the air as his flames erupted near the ramp. Just as Edge got up, Chris Jericho had snuck into the ring. Jericho ran and delivered the Codebreaker on Edge, then stared up the ramp at The Undertaker putting up both arms. Jericho pointed at Undertaker and signaled he'd soon have the belt. Undertaker signaled the cut throat to end the show.

Winner: No winner due to Undertaker's interference in match.
